Abstract

This study aims to improve the quality of learning by developing character-based teaching materials research animal physiology courses. This research method is the development of module manufacturing as a source of learning based on the research that has been done, including a description, picture research and implementation process that include sites expected character, whether written or unwritten is adapted from Dick and Carey learning system to make some adjustments. The results obtained are based on the calculation and conversion of valuation module by module expert instructional materialsby 71, 66%. Based on the results of the conversion, the preparation of the module other wise well qualified and do not need to be revised. The results of the assessment calculation and conversion modules by physiologists by 85%. Based on the results of  the conversion, the module qualification other wise excellent preparation and do not need to be revised. Conclusion are obtained the results by the developing of characterized teaching materials based on the results of experiment is feasible and can be used to support lectures to enhance the quality of teaching Animal Physiology courses in college.Kata kunci: Kualitas pembelajaran fisiologi hewan, bahan ajar berkarakter

Abstract

Kehidupan saat ini menawarkan berbagai kemudahan. Namun, seiring dengan hal tersebut ada banyak permasalahan yang memicu stress. Selain itu, terdapat banyak unsur kimia dan logam berat yang jika saling berinteraksi dapat menimbulkan berbagai macam penyakit mulai dari flu hingga kanker, termasuk autis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis potensi profil protein dalam darah yang menyebabkan autis berdasarkan bioinformatik. Kemudian, disosialisasikan kepada masyarakat khususnya orang tua anak autis di Kota Malang sehingga dapat memberikan wawasan tentang autis. Penelitian ini juga dapat dikembangkan sebagai dasar penelitian laboratorium. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif, menggunakan tiga database yaitu National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), Uniprot, dan Protein Data Bank (PDB) serta menggunakan software Pymol. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa: 1) Protein dalam darah yang berpotensi menyebabkan autis berdasarkan artikel yaitu mTOR, Glutathione S Transferase P, Chemokine Monocyte Chemotactic Protein-1 (MCP-1), Interferon-∂-Inducible Protein-16 (IFI-16), dan serotonin; 2) Protein-protein tersebut setelah dianalisis dengan menggunakan tiga database (NCBI, Uniprot, dan PDB) menunjukkan bahwa protein Glutathione S Transferase P  lebih berpotensi terhadap autis. Hal ini karena protein tersebut berfungsi untuk mencegah neurodegeneration; 3) Penelitian tentang penyebab autis sangat dibutuhkan oleh orang tua anak autis (masyarakat), sehingga dapat diminimalisir akses masuknya pemicu tersebut.

Abstract

Inflammation is a tissue injury that occurs due to physical trauma or microbiological substances that involve the activities of many cell types. Inflammation can be prevented using the natural medicines from Allium cepa L. Quercetin is one of the bioactive compounds found in Allium cepa L and has been reported to have anti-inflammatory activity. The natural medicines have been used to minimize non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. This study aims to investigated the modeling structures and the protein receptor from quecertin in inflammation mechanism and their optimization of the effectiveness in the human body. The bioinformatics tools used in this study are the database of quercetin compounds, Pubchem and Swis Target Prediction protein prediction databases, PyRx 0.8 molecular docking software, ligand docking, and binding site analysis with PyMOL and LigPlus software. The results from in silico show that quercetin compounds can interact with Muscleblind-like protein 1 target protein with a Binding Affinity minus value which is not much different from the dexamethasone compound. Dexamethason is a standart because it is a corticosteroid drug that can be used as an anti-inflammatory to reduce inflammation, allergic reactions, arthritis and other inflammatory diseases.

Abstract

Pemanfaatan sarana kontrasepsi pria dengan memanfaatkan bahan alami berasal dari tanaman sudah banyak dilakukan. Tetapi pemanfaatan biji kedelai sebagai salah satu tanaman suku Leguminoceae belum pernah dilakukan. Biji kedelai mengandung senyawa genistein, sebagai salah satu senyawa derivat isoflavon mempuyai struktur kimia mirip dengan 17β-estradiol bersifat seperti hormon steroid estrogen, mampu menyebabkan kerusakan pada sistem reproduksi jantan. Penelitian bertujuan menguji pengaruh genistein terhadap histopatologi tubulus seminiferus testis mencit jantan (Mus musculus). Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan pendekatan eksperimental, yang rancangannya mengikuti rancangan acak lengkap. Variabel bebas adalah dosis genistein 0 mg/g, 0,0035 mg/g, 0,0042 mg/g, dan 0,0049 mg/g. Variabel terikat adalah sel-sel germinal tubulus seminiferus testis. Data rerata jumlah sel-sel germinal dianalisis menggunakan Analisis Varians Satu Arah (One Way ANOVA) dengan tingkat signifikansi 95% (α 5%) dilakukan uji Post Hoc dengan Least Significant Difference (LSD) α 5%. Perubahan pada jaringan testis dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh pemberian genistein terhadap rerata jumlah sel-sel germinal dan menyebabkan penghambatan proliferasi sel-sel germinal dalam tubulus seminiferus testis.

Abstract

The purpose of the research and development is to produce teaching materials such as textbooks supporting course in Biotechnology research based on the characterization of the sperm membrane proteins for students who take a course in Biotechnology. This research is a research and development, where the results of research become the teaching materials developed supporting Biotechnology course. Development models have prepared using ADDIE Model. Sources of data in this research include laboratory research and validation of the results sheet of Biotechnology material experts, instructional design experts, the media, and the trials in students. The analysis is used descriptive analysis and quantitative descriptive exploratory. The results of the research have developed become teaching materials like text books supporting courses and have been validated by the Biotechnology, the biotechnology material experts, instructional design experts, the media, the individual testing, and group trials. Based on the results of the validation material have obtained value of 89.56%, the results of the design validation and media experts to get the value of 93.75%, it means that the teaching materials has been developed which suitable to be used as a teaching material support biotechnology course. While the experiments performed to get a data the percentage of students that are equal to 88.98% and included in the category of “very good”, but still need to be revised based on advices and comments from students.

Abstract

Recently many breast-feeding mothers use chemical drugs to ease milk secretion, while the said drug could cause side effects if consumed in a long time. The problem could be solved by using natural medicine like bitter melon leaf because it contains charantin which is characteristically identical to phytosterol [6]. This study aimed to discover the potention of water fraction of bitter melon leaf extract to stimulate mammary gland development in Balb/c mice. The development of mammary gland was observed through histological approach by calculating the number of cells in mammary gland, and through molecular biological analysis of protein approach by using SDS-PAGE. The histology of mammary gland showed that the administration of the extract with concentration of 11,200 ppm had the highest number of cells, followed by 5,600 ppm; 22,400 ppm and 16,800 ppm. The result of SDS-PAGE on isolated mammary gland protein showed that the molecular weight of the proteins in the controlled treatment were 2, 5, 8, 10, 12, 19, 34, 40 and 49 kDa. In treatment with concentration of 5,600 ppm there were only 10, 12, 34, 40 and 49 kDa. In treatment with concentration of 11,200 ppm there were similar kinds of proteins with the controlled treatment, only without the 8 kDa protein. In treatment with concentration of 16,800 and 22,400 ppm, there were only 2, 5, 10, 12 kDa. The conclusion of this study was water fraction of bitter melon leaf extract could affect the development of mammary gland in Balb/c mice.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to develop research-based module of techniques and result of antiproliferative particle ZnO examination and In vitro UV radiation towards MCF-7 breast cancer cell for Biotechnology course. This study used a 4D development model suggested by Thiagarajan and was conducted until development stage only. The result of this study showed that the validity percentage of module are 90,91% from content expertise, 95,83 from media and design expertise, and 88,89% from small grouping test. It can be stated that the module is valid and applicable. Key Words: module development, antiproliferative examination, ZnO particle, UV radiation, MCF-7 breast cancer cell, in vitro, biotechnologyAbstrak:Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menghasilkan modul produk bahan ajar berupa modul berbasis riset yang memuat teknik dan hasil riset uji antiproliferatif partikel ZnO dan penyinaran UV terhadap sel kanker MCF-7 secara in vitro untuk matakuliah Bioteknologi. Model pengembangan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah model pengembangan Thiagarajan (4D) yang terdiri dari tahap define, design, develop, dan disseminate, namun tahap penelitian yang dilakukan hanya sampai tahap develop. Hasil validasi dari ahli materi menyatakan tingkat validitas dengan persentase 90,91%, ahli media dan desain pembelajaran 95,83%, dan uji kelompok kecil 88,89%. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa modul teknik kultur jaringan hewan berbasis riset uji antiproliferatif partikel ZnO dan penyinaran UV terhadap sel kanker payudara MCF-7 telah dihasilkan dan telah layak digunakan karena sudah tervalidasi.Kata kunci: pengembangan modul, riset, uji antiproliferatif, partikel ZnO, penyinaran UV, sel kanker payudara MCF-7, in vitro, bioteknologi

Abstract

Abstract: Human Reproductive System is a basic concept in biological sciences that is related to daily life and interesting for high school students. Complicated learning materials make it difficult for students to construct their knowledge and understand the concepts. Survey research using a questionnaire was conducted to determine the causes of difficulties for high school students in understanding the Human Reproductive System concepts. Respondents were grade XII science students and two teachers. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. The research findings indicate that students’ difficulties are due to (1) the extensive usage of scientific terms, (2) abstract concepts, (3) monotone, and (4) inadequate sources of information. The implication of this result is that teachers are required to elaborate appropriate strategies and textbooks to lead students getting accurate knowledge. Key Words: learning difficulties, senior high school students, human reproductive system, teacher, textbook, misconceptionAbstrak: Sistem Reproduksi Manusia merupakan konsep dasar dalam ilmu biologi yang berkaitan de-ngan kehidupan sehari-hari dan menarik bagi siswa SMA untuk dipelajari. Namun, kompleksitas materi seringkali membuat siswa kesulitan dalam membangun struktur pengetahuan dan memahami konsep.  Penelitian survei dengan menggunakan instrumen kuesioner dilakukan untuk mengetahui penyebab kesulitan siswa SMA dalam mempelajari materi ini yang berpotensi memicu miskonsepsi. Responden adalah siswa kelas XII IPA dan guru. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kesulitan siswa disebabkan karena: 1) terdapat istilah asing yang sulit dimengerti dan diingat, 2) beberapa sub konsep bersifat abstrak sehingga sulit dipahami dalam konteks nyata, 3) cara guru menyampaikan materi terlalu monoton dan tidak menarik, 4) sumber informasi yang kurang memadai. Implikasi dari penelitian ini adalah guru perlu mengembangkan strategi pembelajaran yang menarik dan memilih buku teks yang baik sehingga siswa memperoleh pengetahuan yang akurat.Kata kunci: kesulitan belajar, siswa SMA, sistem reproduksi manusia, guru, buku teks, miskonsepsi

Abstract

Abstract: The aim of this development research was to determine the validity, effectiveness, and practicality of the guided inquiry learning module assisted by multimedia on cell metabolism. This study adapted the research and development from Lee and Owen model. The validity of modules and multimedia as a product is known from the validation scores of experts, while the practicality is known from biology teacher and student responses, and the effectiveness from student learning outcomes. The results showed that the average module expert validation score was 89.67% (very valid), material experts were 100% (very valid), media experts were 96.67% (very valid) and field practitioners were 87.50 (valid). Most students gave a positive response to the module by 85.08% and on the media 80,56%. The effectiveness of the development module produces a value of p = 0.13 which means that it can significantly improve student learning outcomes. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the guided inquiry learning module with mutimedia assisted on cell metabolism is valid, effective, and practical so that it can be used more continued on XII grade senior high school students.Key Words: module, guided inquiry, multimedia, cell metabolismAbstrak: Tujuan penelitian pengembangan ini adalah untuk mengetahui kevalidan, keefektifan, dan kepraktisan modul belajar inkuiri terbimbing berbantuan multimedia pada materi metabolisme sel. Penelitian ini mengadaptasi model penelitian & pengembangan Lee dan Owen. Kevalidan modul belajar dan multimedia sebagai produk diketahui dari skor validasi para ahli, sedangkan kepraktisan diketahui dari respon guru biologi dan siswa, sedangkan keefektifan diketahui dari hasil belajar siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rerata skor validasi ahli modul sebesar 89,67 % (sangat valid), ahli materi sebesar 100 % (sangat valid), ahli media sebesar 96,67 % (sangat valid) dan praktisi lapangan sebesar 87,50 (valid). Sebagian besar siswa memberikan respons positif terhadap modul sebesar 85,08 % dan terhadap media 80,56%. Efektivitas modul pengembangan menghasilkan nilai p = 0,13 yang artinya secara signifikan dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa modul belajar inkuiri terbimbing berbantuan multimedia pada materi metabolisme sel yang dikembangkan tergolong valid, efektif dan praktis sehingga dapat digunakan lebih lanjut pada siswa kelas XII SMA.Kata kunci: modul, inkuiri terbimbing, multimedia, metabolisme sel
