The subject of this research was the English learning media used by the 8th-grade teacher at SMPN 4 Singaraja. This study was a Design and Development research which consisted of 3 steps of research, namely design, development, and evaluation. The researcher's notes, infographic development blueprints, instrument validation, and expert judgment were used to collect the data. The data were from the researchers' notes, and the infographic development blueprint was described qualitatively. Meanwhile, the score obtained from the instrument validation and the results of the expert judgment were explained quantitatively. The final result indicated that the infographic is very good to be used as an English teaching medium, especially for the 8th grade of junior high school students. Therefore, this research concluded that by developing books containing infographics, English teachers could have another type of visual media to teach all topics in grade 8 by using infographics.

Abstract

Grammar has long been a source of aggravation for anyone learning a second language, not just English language learners, but also non-native English teachers. People can now employ Grammarly to correct their grammar mistakes, owing to the sophistication of modern technology. The debate over whether teachers use Grammarly as part of their professional development is ongoing. The purpose of this study was to identify the grammatical errors made by non-native English teachers when writing narrative texts before and after Grammarly checked them. The participants in this qualitative study were 24 English teachers from the English Teacher Association of Buleleng Regency in Bali, Indonesia. This study employed the surface approach taxonomy to analyze the grammatical errors and interviewed the teachers to elicit factors that contribute to grammatical errors. This study found that the most common type of misformation error, specifically the alternating form error, was found in both Grammarly-corrected and Grammarly-uncorrected texts. Furthermore, intralingual factors were responsible for the majority of errors. The integration of Grammarly into teachers' professional learning is discussed.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted a rapid shift from traditional face-to-face teaching to remote learning in educational institutions worldwide, including Indonesian senior high schools. This qualitative descriptive study explores the challenges faced by English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers during this transition, focusing on technology infrastructure, student engagement, assessment, and adapting teaching methods. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews with two English teachers who teach at XII and XI grade at Sma Negeri 1 Seririt and Smk Karya Usada in Buleleng regency. The findings reveal that EFL teachers experienced difficulties in accessing and utilizing technology, maintaining student engagement, developing and administering effective assessments, and adapting their teaching methods and materials for remote instruction. The findings provide valuable insights into the experiences of EFL teachers during the pandemic, as well as recommendations for overcoming these challenges, including improving technology infrastructure, enhancing student engagement, developing new assessment methods, and providing professional development opportunities for EFL teachers. This research contributes to the understanding of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on EFL education in Indonesia and offers a foundation for future studies and policy-making in the area of remote EFL teaching.
