Abstract

Tujuan dilaksanakan penelitian ini untuk melihat pengaruh metode penyimpanan preservasi yang berbeda terhadap viabilitas spermatozoa semen babi landrace dalam pengencer alami air buah lontar (AL) dengan penambahan kuning telur ayam kampung (KT). Semen diambil dari 5 ekor pejantan landrace yang telah dewasa kelamin. Setelah itu dilakukan pemeriksaan makros-mikros dari semen segar, semen dengan kriteria motilitas , konsentrasi dan abnormalitas spermatozoa berturt-turut: >70%, >200 juta spermatozoa/ml, <20% yang layak untuk dijadikan semen cair. Perlakuan dalam penelitian:, P1(AL 95%+5% KT), P2(AL 85%+15% KT), P3(AL 75%+25% KT) yang simpan pada metode water jacket (WJ) dan P4(AL 95%+5% KT), P5(AL 85%+15% KT), P6(AL 75%+25% KT) yang disimpan dengan metode non water jacket (NWJ), semen dikemas dalam mikrotube 1 ml dan disimpan pada suhu preservasi. Pada penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa viabilitas spermatozooa dalam pengencer alami air buah lontar yang ditambahkan dengan kuning telur ayam kampung memperlihatkan hasil yang baik pada kombinasi AL 85% dan KT25% pada penyimpanan water jacket. Semen cair pada pengencer kombinasi tersebut diatas mampu bertahan hingga 28 jam penyimpanan.

Abstract

Timorese fruit bat(Pteropusvampyrus)is the only fly mammalian with its unique behavior which hanging upside down inspite of its pregnancy. This research is aimed to reveal the morphology of the Timorese fruit bats and the distribution of neutral carbohydrate within this organ. Three uterus samples derived from three different Timorese fruit bats were used in the research.Both macroscopical and microscopical examinations using H&E and PAS methods were applied. Macroscopically, Timorese fruit bats showedsoft reddish white duplex uterus. Meanwhile microscopically, endometrium consisted of epithelial layer and lamina propria and was the place where simple tubular glands located. The epithelial layer comprised of simple cylindric secretory cells and ciliated cells. Neutral carbohydrate distribution was seen within this epithelial layer. Myometrium was a thick circular smooth muscle layer which consisted of smooth muscle separated by collagen and elastic fibre. Perimetrium was a visceral layer and consisted of mesothelial cells.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Siwalan Palm Juice as a natural extender for maintaining boar sperm quality. Semen ejaculates collected from three Duroc and Landrace boars were macroscopically (volume, colour, odor, pH and consistency) and microscopically (motility, concentration and abnormality) evaluated. Semen samples fulfilled all criteria for semen characteristic (motility > 70%, concentration 200 x 106 cells /ml and abnormality ≤ 20%). Antibiotics were added in this semen samples. This study used completely randomized design with 6 treated groups, each group repeated three times. K0 (control): fresh semen; K1: Siwalan juice + Landrace boar semen; K2: Coconut water + Landrace boar semen; K3: NaCL + Landrace boar semen; K4: Siwalan juice + Duroc boar semen; K5: Coconut water + Duroc boar semen; K6: NaCL + Duroc boar semen. This semen samples were stored under room temperature at 220C. The result shows that Duroc and Landrace boar spermatozoa can be stored in Siwalan Palm Juice extender for up to 24 hours. It can concluded that Siwalan Juice could be used as one of natural extender for maintaining boar sperm quality under room temperature at 220C.

Abstract

Pigs are one of the potential livestock to breed with the aim of meeting the needs of animal protein, but in fact the level of pig production is not optimal due to the low efficiency of reproduction. One way that can be used to increase the productivity of sows that by superovulation method. This study aimed to determine the effects of PMSG hormone injections to increase the productivity level of sows that given superovulation treatment. 10 sows that have been selected, be divided into two research groups: control group and treatment group. Before the treatment is given in the form of PMSG hormone injections, sows from both study groups, first injected with hormones PGF2α to estrus synchronization purposes. Then, sows in the treatment group are injected by PMSG hormone with the dose of 2 ml/sow before naturally mating with the boar. After the mating process, the gestation period of pregnant sow will be observed until the parturition time. The parameters were litter size and the birth weight of piglets produced from each sows of the two study groups. Sows were injected with PMSG hormone before mating show better productivity levels compared with sows in the control group. Sows were injected with PMSG hormone produce the overall number of piglets are 46 piglets or the litter size are 9 piglets with the average birth weight of 1.20 kg, while in the control group generates total number of piglets are 36 piglets or the number of litter size are 7 piglets with the average birth weight of 1.05kg. Based on statistical tests, the results showed that there’s no significantly different ((P>0.05) for the litter size of each research groups. The results showed that injection of the PMSG hormone as a superovulation agent before mating is able to increasing piglet birth weight but not able to increase the litter size significantly. Increased productivity of sows through superovulation method is to extend the production period of the sow, especially sows with a number of birth five or more times without being replace by new gilt.

Abstract

Kuda Sandelwood merupakan aset lokal Pulau Sumba yang memiliki fungsi sosial dan ekonomi yang cukup tinggi. Profil kimia darah merupakan salah satu parameter yang dapat digunakan untuk penegakan diagnosis suatu penyakit yang dapat menyebabkan kerusakan organ, salah satunya hati. Salah satu pemeriksaan fungsi hati dapat dilakukan dengan pengujian enzim hati yang meliputi Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase (SGOT) atau aspartat aminotransferase (AST). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur kadar SGOT/AST kuda Sandelwood secara umum maupun berdasarkan jenis kelamin. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan pada Desa Maubokul, Kecamatan Pandawai di Kabupaten Sumba Timur, kemudian pemeriksaan sampel dilakukan di UPT Laboratorium Kesehatan Provinsi NTT. Sampel serum darah diambil dari 20 ekor kuda Sandelwood (10 ekor jantan dan 10 ekor betina) yang sehat secara klinis kemudian serum diuji pada mesin Erba XL 300. Hasil yang didapat direratakan menggukan aplikasi SPSS 16. Hasil penelitian menunjukan kadar rata-rata SGOT kuda Sandelwood secara umum sebesar 222,30 ± 31,5 U/L, kadar rata-rata SGOT kuda jantan sebesar 212,90 ±32,05 U/L dan rata-rata SGOT kuda betina sebesar 231,70± 29,45 U/L. Hasil analisis independen t-test menunjukan tidak adanya perbedaan kadar SGOT antara kuda jantan dan kuda betina (p>0.05)

Abstract

Pertumbuhan populasi babi di Indonesia disetiap daerah dari tahun ke tahun mengalami peningkatan. Testis berfungsi menghasilkan spermatozoa dan hormon testosteron. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh ukuran testis terhadap kualitas spermatozoa babi Landrace dan babi Duroc dengan umur berkisar 2-4 tahun. Penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian eksperimental meliputi pengukuran testis dan evaluasi semen secara makroskopis dan mikroskopis. Data mikroskopis yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian rerata evaluasi semen babi Landrace secara mikroskopis menunjukkan motilitas 82.5±0.00 % dan viabilitas 88.7±0.00 %, sedangkan evaluasi makroskopis semen babi Duroc menunjukka motilitas 82.5±0.00 % dan viabilitas 88.6±0.00 %. Hasil rerata ukuran panjang testis babi Landrace bagian kiri 12.66 ± 3.0 cm, bagian kanan 14.00 ± 1.0 cm, lebar testis bagian kiri 7.66 ± 2.081 cm, bagian kanan 8.00±0.00 cm. Babi Duroc memiliki panjang testis kiri 16.66 ± 5.507 cm, panjang testis kanan 13.66 ± 3.21cm , lebar testis bagian kiri 8.3 ± 2.020 cm dan lebar testis bagian kanan 8.5 ± 1.5 cm. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa tidak terdapat perbedaan ukuran testis ternak babi Landrace dan Duroc nyata terhadap motilitas dan viabilitas spermatozoa (p>0.05) kedua jenis babi tersebut.

Abstract

Bali cattle have advantages in terms of adaptation and fertilization rates, but tend to have slow growth rate because the rearing system is still grazing so that livestock growth becomes uncontrollable. This study aims to determine the peak of mating and calving estimation of Bali cattle (Bos sondaicus) that did not experience reproductive disorders, aged 4-7 years, belonging to smallholder farmers. The cattle were reared in semi-arid area of Netemnanu village, South Amfoang district, Kupang regency, Nusa Tenggara Timur. The method used was interviews with farmers, diagnosis of pregnancy through rectal palpation and ultrasonography. The results showed that the pregnancy rate was 86.20% (50/58).  Based on pregnancy data, it was known that the peak of mating would occur in December 2021 and estimated calving would reach its peak in September 2022.

Abstract

A candidate gene suspected of affecting pigs' reproductive traits is known as the leptin (LEP) gene. Based on the information found in Leptin GenBank's DNA sequence database, this research aimed to determine single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and changes in nucleotides and phylogenetic trees in pigs. The data from NCBI GenBank was used to obtain three different DNA sequences of the Leptin gene in pigs. The DNA sequence data for leptin were aligned using BioEdit to establish the sites of SNPs and alterations in nucleotides. A phylogenetic tree was constructed using Mega X. DNA sequences were, and the pig LEP gene was sequenced resulted in 11 SNPs. These findings are based on the sequence regions. The phylogenetic analysis revealed that the sequence of the Leptin gene in pigs (Sus scrofa) clustered more closely with that of goats (Capra hircus) than it did with the sequence of the LEP gene among the cattle (Bos taurus and Bos indicus). The outcomes of this study can serve as a basis for more investigation into the connection between the LEP gene SNP and reproductive traits in pigs as one of potential genes for molecular selection.

Abstract

Increasing the economy of rural communities is a process of improving an economic effort to meet the needs of life through an empowerment system form that meets human needs by utilizing surrounding natural resources. Natural resources owned by rural communities are the potential to be developed to improve the economy of the village community. If freshwater aquaculture is well developed and managed properly, it will bring beneficial results in line with the increase in fulfillment of public’ requirements. The purpose of community service program activities in Camplong II Village, Fatuleu District, Kupang Regency was community empowerment through freshwater aquaculture using the pond method. The people of Camplong II village have limited access to obtaining fresh fish products as its location is around 45-50 km from Kupang city which is known for its fresh sea products. Thus, the activities implemented were training on the installation of a square pond, providing 500 fish seeds and fish feed for 2 periods, mentoring and monitoring the maintenance of this pond, and developing human resources. The results obtained: installation of several fish pond with a diameter of 3 meters and a height of 4.0 m, an increase in community knowledge and skills, an early fish harvest stocked from this period which can improve the welfare of the community in Camplong II Village, Kupang Regency. From the results obtained there is potential in the form of land, water sources, and facilities that can be empowered to increase fish water farming production.

Abstract

The emergence of African Swine Fever (ASF) and Food and Mouth Diseases (FMD) or PMK outbreaks encourages the importance of educating and raising awareness about the importance of a clean and healthy lifestyle in breeder farm through biosecurity application. In addition, the community needs to know with certainty the transmission and prevention of ASF so that it does not become more vulnerable. The purpose of this community service activity is to provide a scientific picture and be easily understood by the community at Mata Lombu Village, to anticipate the outbreak of the ASF and FMD disease. The activity stage was designed and was preceded by coordination and communication with the Mata Lombu village. Preparation intended is the determination of the direction and target of activities, activity models, follow-up activities and locations of activity concentration. The results of this activity are very in accordance with the expected, namely the people who were present actively asking about the material provided. This shows that their great curiosity and high attention of participants to increase their knowledge about how to prevent and deal with ASF and FMD and how to maintain good personal and environmental health.
