Abstract

The female reproductive organs function to produce ovum cells (oocytes) and hormones. The female reproductive organs are also a place where the embryo grows and develops in the uterus. The reproductive organs in pigs consist of the ovaries, oviduct, uterus and vagina. The purpose of this literature study is to determine the histological structure of the ovaries, oviducts, uterus and vagina. This literature review was conducted to see the histological structure of the reproductive system of sows. The method used is a qualitative descriptive method with a literature study approach. Based on the results of the studies that have been done, it is known that the ovaries have a histological structure consisting of a cortex which contains several stages of follicles and a medulla consisting of blood vessels, connective tissue, lymphatics, and nerves. The ovaries are covered by a layer of cuboidal cells called the germinal epithelium and underneath is a layer of dense connective tissue called tunica albuginea. The oviduct structure consists of three layers, such as tunica mucosa, tunica muscularis and tunica serosa. The mucosa of the oviduct consists of simple columnar epithelium or pseudostrative with ciliated cells and there is also a longitudinal fold in this area. The muscularis tunica of the oviduct consists of two muscle layers, such as longitudinal muscle layer and the cycular muscle layer. The muscle layer of the isthmus is thickest and gradually thins toward the infundibulum. The outer layer of the oviduct is the serous tunica. The uterine structure consists of three layers, such as endometrium, myometrium and perimetrium.

Abstract

Pigs are monogasrtic and prolific livestock (many offspring per birth), their growth is rapid and at the age of six months can be marketed. The purpose of the study was to know about histologycal struvture of the testes and epididymis of the pigs. The library study was obtained from the search and collection of various library sources from Google scholar with the help of mendeley's application. Research has shown that the testes was surrounded by a capsule made up of dense irregular connective tissue comprising three layers viz., tunica vaginalis, tunica albugenia and tunica vasculosa. The connective tissue trabeculae were extended from the capsule and divided the parenchyma of the testes into number of lobules and consisted of collagen, elastic and reticular fibers. The testicular parenchyma contains many seminiferous tubules, with each tubule consisting of a lamina propria and an epithelial layer. The seminiferous tubules consist of spermatogenic cells and Sertoli cells. There are also many Leydig cells located between the seminiferous tubules. The pigs epididymis is divided into three segments, namely, the head, body, and cauda which are composed of pseudostratified columnar epithelium and are surrounded by loose connective tissue and a layer of smooth muscle. The closer to the cauda, the smooth muscle layer gets thicker and the stereocilia gets shorter.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the antioxidant effect of the ethanol extract of the leaves of Moringa (Moringa oleifera Lam.) In water diluent palm fruit of the quality of landrace pig spermatozoa. This study uses a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 5 treatments, 1 control dan 4 repetitions and observation of the motility and viability of spermatozoa performed every 2 hours until a decline in the percentage motility of at least 40%. The cement used in the Laboratory of Technical Services Unit for Breeding and Forage at Tarus, Kupang. Escrow done every two weeks from the male landrace pigs who have experienced sexual maturity. Landrace pig semen storage results were evaluated macroscopically and microscopically. Good quality cement had ≥70% motility, concentration ≥200x106 sel spermatozoa/ml and abnormalities of ≤20%. Cement is added to the water diluent palm fruit then added with antioxidants. Antioxidants should be added during the storage process, sperm metabolic activity produces free radicals that can degrade the quality of spermatozoa. Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera Lam.) Is one of the antioxidants that can be used to counteract free radicals. Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera Lam.) Is added to the water diluent palm fruit with graded doses are 1% (P1), 2% (P2), 3% (P3), 4% (P4) and 5% (P5). The results of this study indicate a dose of 1% (P1) is the best dosage to maintain the quality of the landrace pig spermatozoa of 66.25 ± 2.39 motility and viability of spermatozoa sebesar 78.00% ± 1.82%, which is stored at room temperature 22º C.

Abstract

The quality of sperm an the supporting factors in the success of the process of insemination in boar. One of the cause of quality is the low temperature. The boar sperm have a thin plasma membrane so it can’t withstand low temperature. Needed ubstances that can protect the sperm from cold shock. The egg yolks with a lipoprotein content and lecithin are known to protect boar sperm stored at low temperature. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of addition of egg yolks concentration 25%, 15% and 5% in palmyra juice diluents to improve the quality of the Landrace boar sperm. The research used is experimental method with Completely Randomized Design (RAL), each of 4 replications. Palmyra juice made by extraction method plus egg yolks, then addition of antibiotics. Palmyra juice diluents with different concentrations of egg yolks were added to the boar semen and stored by water jacket and non water jacket method. Evaluation of motility and percentage of live had performed microscopically. The results of this study were indicated that the addition of egg yolk as much as 25% with water jacket storage method is able to maintain the quality of sperm in a longer time compared with other concentrations. Motility up to 24 hours of storage with a 40,00±0,00% percentage and viability up to 30 hours of storage with 40.33±1.76% percentage.

Abstract

Normal hematological values need to be defined for each category of horse, like age and sex to obtain precise diagnostic results. No published data on hematology exist for Sandalwood horses that are extensively reared in East Sumba, NTT. The main objective of this research was to compare the hematological characteristic of horse group based on age and sex. Blood samples from sixteen horses were collected based on sex into male (n=6), female (n=10) and age groups of 2-3 years (n=4) and 6-10 years old (n=12). About 3 ml of blood sample was collected aseptically from jugular vein of each of these animals in sterile vacutainer tube. The following variables were measured: erythrocyte, leucocyte, platelet, hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit (HCT), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) and mean platelet volume (MPV). These hematological parameters were calculated with the automatic hematology analyzer at Health Laboratory in Kupang, NTT. This result was analyzed by using student T-test and analysis of variance. These results would contribute to better understanding of the hematological indicators for estimating the physiological status of Sandalwood horse in East Sumba as it can be used as valuable information of its health physiological status.
