Abstract

This study aims to describe the types of figurative language and the functions of figurative language contained in the buku kumpulan puisi Baju Bulan: Seuntai Puisi Pilihan by Joko Pinurbo through stylistic studies. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The research data are 16 selected poems taken as samples from a total of 82 poems in the collection. The classification of figurative language is based on the theory of Gorys Keraf and Henry Guntur Tarigan, while the analysis of linguistic functions refers to the theory of Roman Jakobson. The results show that there are 85 data covering 20 types of figurative language. The types of figurative language found include personification, metaphor, simile, antithesis, irony, paradox, hyperbole, satire, sarcasm, metonymy, antonomasia, allusion, eroticism, parallelism, euphemism, polysindenton, epizeukis, asyndone, anaphora, and assonance. The most dominant figurative language is metaphor (13 data) and personification (10 data), which shows the poet's tendency to use figurative language to build symbolic and imaginative meanings. From the aspect of the function of language style, 67 data were found divided into six functions: poetic, emotive, referential, conative, metalinguistic, and phatic functions. The poetic function is the most dominant (20 data), confirming that the poems in this collection really emphasize the aesthetic aspect and beauty of language. Overall, the use of language style in Joko Pinurbo's works not only functions as a decoration of the text, but also as a means of conveying social criticism, philosophical reflection, and deep emotional expression

Abstract

This study aims to describe the emotional expressions of the main character, Anindia, in Noveni Adelia’s novel ‘Hold On, It Hurts’ through the perspective of literary psychology. The focus of this study is to identify the emotional manifestations of Anindia, who is experiencing complex domestic conflicts. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The primary data source for this study is the novel ‘Hold On, It Hurts’ by Noveni Adelia. Data were collected using the read-and-record technique, involving repeated reading, noting quotations, and classifying them based on theory. Data analysis was conducted descriptively using Paul Ekman’s theory of the six basic emotions: sadness, anger, surprise, fear, disgust, and happiness. The results of the study indicate that the character Anindia experiences all six of these emotions, triggered by her husband’s (Jeandra) betrayal, the presence of a third party (Karinina), domestic violence, and the loss of her professional identity as a doctor due to slander. Sadness and anger emerge as the most dominant emotions in response to the collapse of her marital hopes and the injustices she faces. This study concludes that the depiction of emotions in the novel accurately reflects the psychological turmoil humans face when dealing with trauma and severe mental stress.

Abstract

Karya sastra sebagai media yang mampu menggambarkan realitas kehidupan serta menyampaikan nilai-nilai perjuangan kepada pembaca. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan nilai-nilai perjuangan tokoh utama Lin dalam novel Rasa karya Tere Liye dan mendeskripsikan persepsi pembaca terhadap nilai-nilai perjuangan tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan kajian sosiologi sastra dan resepsi sastra. Sumber data penelitian diperoleh dari kutipan-kutipan novel serta hasil wawancara terhadap beberapa narasumber pembaca novel. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui studi pustaka, teknik baca dan catat, serta wawancara. Teknik analisis data dilakukan dengan mengidentifikasi, mengklasifikasi, mendeskripsikan, dan menarik kesimpulan berdasarkan data yang ditemukan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tokoh utama Lin memiliki beberapa nilai perjuangan, yaitu rela berkorban, persatuan, harga-menghargai, sabar dan semangat pantang menyerah serta kerja sama. Selain itu, hasil persepsi pembaca menunjukkan bahwa perjuangan tokoh Lin memberikan pengaruh positif bagi pembaca berupa motivasi hidup, semangat menghadapi masalah, dan sikap tidak mudah menyerah. Dengan demikian, novel ini tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai hiburan, tetapi juga sebagai media pembelajaran nilai kehidupan bagi pembaca.
