Abstract

Background: One of the Occupational Safety and Health implementation programs to minimize work accidents and occupational diseases is the application of 5S culture (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain). It aims to create a new and positive energy for the workers and maintain the better work environment. PT Indonesia Kendaraan Terminal (IKT) Tbk is a subsidiary of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II which is engaged in vehicle import-export services. At office area, there are stack of papers, unneatly box and work station. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to assess the 5S culture implementation. Methods: This study is an observational study conducted at PT Indonesia Kendaraan Terminal Tbk which is located at Jalan Sindang Laut No. 100, Cilincing, North Jakarta, 14110 in February until March 2021. Data collection was done by observation and 5S form assessment based on the guidelines according to Pertamina's 2011 command letter. Results: In driving factors, 5S organizational has not yet formed but had been socialized. In addition, the results of the 5S assessment, at sort, set in order, shine, and sustain aspects are in the enough category. Meanwhile the standardize aspect in not good category. Conclusions: PT Indonesia Kendaraan Terminal Tbk has not maximally implemented the 5S culture caused by changes in the organizational structure, the company prioritizing in operational services. In addition, the application of 5S culture is only as a branding so it's not considered as important thing in the work process.

Abstract

Background: The cases of traffic accidents increases year by year as the increase in the number of motorized vehicles. Rapid technological advances have an impact on the progress of the transportation sector, so that the online-based motorcycle taxi application is created. In 2020, 2 million online drivers registered with a company in the transportation sector. Accidents online motorcycle taxi drivers can be caused by several factors, one of which is length of work and subjective fatigue. Work as an online motorcycle taxi requires workers to work in a hot work environment, this triggers fatigue in workers which leads to accidents. This can be exacerbated by working long hours of more than eight hours a day and not being accompanied by adequate rest Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine the strong relationship between water consumption, work Duration and subjective fatigue with the accidents among online motorcycle taxi drivers. The independent variables in this study is work duration and subjective fatigue, while the dependent variable was the incidence of accidents. Method: This study was analytical and observational, with a cross-sectional design. The subject of the study was an online motorcycle taxi driver in the Sidoarjo Regency area with up to 110 respondents. Result: The results of the analysis showed that there was a positive and a weak correlation between working hours (CI=0.209), while there was a fairly strong correlation with a positive direction for subjective fatigue (r=0.326) with the incidence of accidents on online motorcycle taxi drivers. Conclusion: The analysis show that there is a weak relationship between work duration and the incidence of accidents for online motorcycle taxi drivers, while there is a fairly strong relationship between subjective fatigue and accidents. From the results of data analysis, the direction of the relationship between two independent variables is positive, it meaning that the longer work duration will cause an increase in fatigue and the incidence of work accidents.

Abstract

Background: One of the occupational health and safety problems that many manufacturing workers experience is unergonomic work positions, this can cause fatigue and several serious diseases, including Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSDs.) Objectives: To find out the description of work positions and MSD complaints felt by workers of Gresik Steel Industry, particularly in the area of magnetic flux leakage and rework. Methods: This study used an observational method and analysis was carried out using the Angle Meter application, Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA), and the Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire. Results: The assessment of work positions shows that 2 workers have a moderate risk level, 4 workers have a high risk level, and 2 workers have a very high risk level that requires immediate improvement. The results of observations show that the work activities that are often carried out by workers are squatting positions with a bent back and neck in a flexed position, which is an unergonomic position. A total of 87.5% of workers experienced moderate MSDs complaints, and 12.5% of workers experienced low-level MSDs complaints. Control efforts that have been made include the use of tools to lift products, setting working hours and breaks, and using personal protective equipment (PPE). Conclusion: Assessment of work positions in magnetic flux leakage and rework area workers has a high risk level that requires immediate corrective action, and MSDs complaints are felt by workers in the high category. The description of work positions can be used as a basic reference for companies to determine additional control efforts to reduce the risk of MSDs complaints among workers in the future.

Abstract

The oil and gas industry is an industry with a high risk of fire. This is because this industry involves several types of substances that cause pressure and have the potential to cause leaks and spills. Industry's inability to detect these conditions can cause fires. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the implementation of fire protection systems in the industry. This research was conducted using a checklist method for fulfilling requirements according to appropriate regulations. The results of this assessment show that the company has fulfilled regulations in accordance with each system with a percentage above 75%. Some suggestions that can be considered for improvement include replacing expired fire extinguishers so that they are ready for use, providing APAR signs or symbols at each location point, providing a cover or placing the fire extinguisher outside in a roofed area, equip each hydrant point with instructions for use, carry out hydrant maintenance regarding the completeness and cleanliness of the hydrant box, and update evacuation route signs that are no longer legible and cut trees or branches that cover the signs.

Abstract

Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) referred to complaints affecting the muscles and bones, ranging from sprains to chronic disorders that carried a risk of disability. Proper ergonomic implementation supported workers' health, comfort, and productivity, while poor ergonomics could trigger complaints. Identifying work positions, processes, and layouts was necessary to prevent MSDs. This study analyzed the effect of Workplace Stretching Exercise (WSE) on MSDs complaints among building construction project workers in Malang Regency. This study employed a quantitative approach with a Quasi-Experimental design and the Pretest-Posttest Control Group method. The study results indicated differences in MSDs complaints before and after the WSE intervention, demonstrating the effectiveness of the intervention. Ordinal regression analysis showed that several factors had a significant effect on MSDs complaints, including age 17-25 years (ρ=0.016), age 26-35 years (ρ=0.004), very low work posture (ρ=0.006), low work posture (ρ=0.008), work duration (ρ=0.007), low workload (ρ=0.023), moderate workload (ρ=0.015), and the WSE intervention (ρ=0.020). These findings indicated that, in addition to individual and work-related factors, the implementation of WSE played a role in reducing MSDs complaints among building construction project workers in Malang Regency. The researchers recommended that workers maintain optimal body posture, apply safe lifting techniques, avoid prolonged static positions, and perform regular stretching exercises as a preventive measure against musculoskeletal injuries

Abstract

Introduction: The regulations related to hearing conservation programs are currently still theoretical and not practical. In the production process at PT POMI, there are several pieces of equipment that serve as sources of noise in the work area. Based on data from measurements of the work environment related to noise in the work area and noise exposure measurements on representative workers, the results indicate that the highest noise exposure at PT POMI is 97.9 dBA. Method: This research is a descriptive study that provides an overview of the implementation of the hearing conservation program. Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, and literature review. The data obtained is then discussed by comparing it with existing regulations. Result: PT Paiton Operation and Maintenance Indonesia has implemented all elements of the hearing conservation program in accordance with the regulatory requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) No. 1910.65 regarding Occupational Noise Exposure. Conclusion: PT POMI has implemented six elements of the hearing conservation program including noise exposure monitoring; engineering and administrative controls; audiometric test; hearing protection devices; training and education; and record keeping. However, the implementation of these elements has not been fully maximized.
