Abstract

Several speaking problems at SMKN 1 Kersana, Brebes Regency attracted researchers to conduct this research as an effort to help students in language learning. Researchers tried to see the effectiveness of playing the Pictionary Game on English speaking skills. This Pictionary game is a simple game and is applicable to all levels of students. The main function of this game is to develop creative thinking, improve grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, develop students' courage in expressing ideas and create responsibility and cooperation towards their students. Because of these advantages, many researchers have used this game on language learning such as the effect of Pictionary Game on vocabulary mastery and researchers decided to see whether Pictionary Game is effective for students' speaking skills. This research was conducted using an experimental design. In collecting data, the researcher took the pre-test and post-test from class XI Accounting A and examined them to see whether the Pictionary game was effective or not. The results of the research found that the results of the initial test or pretest with an average score of 8.30, this shows that class XI accounting A students do not fully have much knowledge regarding vocabulary in English. From the results of the t test using the Paired sample test method, it can be seen that (2-tailed) with a significance value of 0.000, H_0 is rejected, and from a significance level of 0.000 < 0.05 it can also be concluded that H_1 is accepted. Because H_0 is rejected and H_1 is accepted, it can be concluded that there is an increase in the vocabulary understanding of class This can be seen from the difference in the average value, namely 12.39 or 34.4%. This means that the learning method using the pictonary game technique has proven to be effective in increasing the vocabulary understanding of class XI students at SMK Negeri 1 Kersana.

Abstract

This study investigates the phenomena of English–Indonesian code mixing in Jesselyn Lauwreen's short-form video material, specifically in her Gourmet With Jess TikTok series. Lauwreen is the winner of MasterChef Indonesia Season 8. The research distinguishes and classifies three linguistic forms—intra-sentential code mixing, intra-lexical code mixing, and code mixing involving pronunciation change—based on Charlotte Hoffman's (1991) typology of code mixing. In order to investigate how English cooking terminology is incorporated into Indonesian narratives, 10 TikTok videos were examined using a qualitative descriptive technique. The results show that the most common technique is intra-sentential code mixing, in which English phrases like "Now aku bakal steam" or "Chinese stir fry beef dengan sayur-sayuran" are included into Indonesian sentence structures to promote conceptual clarity and linguistic flexibility. Additionally common is intra-lexical code mixing, which is demonstrated by hybrid constructions such as "di-marinate," "garnish-nya," and "shred gitu," which show Jesselyn's adaptive linguistic innovation by fusing local grammar conventions with international culinary language. The least common type of code mixing was a change in pronunciation, but it was noticeable in cases like "chicken stock," which is pronounced using Indonesian phonology. This indicates localized accessibility without compromising professional authority. The study emphasizes that code mixing on TikTok is a purposeful decision influenced by audience expectations, platform affordances, and the creation of culinary identities rather than just being a linguistic need. In addition to providing insights into how multilingual influencers use language to negotiate cultural capital, relatability, and expertise in Indonesia's developing digital culinary realm, these findings validate the usefulness of Hoffman's methodology in evaluating multimodal digital discourse.

Abstract

This research was focused on investigating the effectiveness of students' vocabulary mastery using the comic "Donald Duck" for 7th-grade students in SMP N 25 Semarang. This research aimed to compare the findings of students' vocabulary mastery before and after being taught Donald Duck comic media and to see if there was a significant difference in student achievement in their vocabulary mastery taught before and after using Donald Duck comic media. This research used a quasi-experimental design with two classes: experimental and control. This study's population consisted of 261 students in the seventh grade at SMP N 25 Semarang, and the sample consisted of 64 students from two classes, VIG and VID. Data was collected by giving a pre-test and a post-test and then analyzed in the SPSS program using the t-test formula. The analysis results show that students not taught to use comics have a "poor" ability, as seen from their post-test average score of 60.13. Students taught to use comics had "good" abilities, as seen from their post-test average score of 75.50. So, a t-test of 13,054 is obtained with a t-table of 2,042 at a significance level of 5%. It can be concluded that the t-test is higher than the t-table (13.054>2.042). This shows that there is a significant difference in vocabulary mastery between students who are taught using Donald Duck comics and those who are not taught using Donald Duck comics. This means the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Learning vocabulary mastery using Donald Duck comics is effective.

Abstract

Seedless fruit is one of the criteria (necessary) to improve the quality of Simadu tangerine. The most effective method to obtain seedless triploid cultivars is hybridisation between tetraploid and diploid parents. Simadu tangerine is a diploid plant. Tetraploid Simadu tangerine can be obtained with doubling chromosome using colchicines. The aim of this research was to obtain tetraploid Simadu tangerine shoot which would serve as parent to produced seedless Simadu tangerine. Shoot-tips of Simadu tangerine without leaves were treated with colchicines at four different concentrations (0, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3%) for 3 hours. The results showed that the high concentration of 0.3% reduced survival rate. The colchicine treatments reduced growth of shoot-tip of Simadu Tangerine. The leaves of colchicines treated shoots were thicker than control. Leaves from control (0% colchicine) and 0.1% colchicine treated shoots had 8.67 and 18.25 chloroplast per pair of guard cells. Compared to those of control, leaves with 0.1% colchicine had lower stomatal density, and larger stomatal size. It appeared that 0.1% colchicine treatment resulted in tetraploid Simadu Tangerine Shoot. Keywords:chloroplasts, doubling chromosomes, stomatal size, stomatal density
