Abstract

Hypertension is a growing health concern that can begin in adolescence and persist into adulthood. Nutritional factors such as nutritional status, sodium intake, and fiber intake play a key role in influencing blood pressure. This study aims to examine the relationship between nutritional status, sodium adequacy, and fiber adequacy with the incidence of hypertension among junior high school students. This research employed a cross-sectional design with a total of 64 students selected through purposive sampling. Nutritional status was assessed using Body Mass Index-for-Age (BMI/A), while sodium and fiber adequacy were measured using a Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ). Blood pressure was measured using a digital sphygmomanometer. Data were analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. The findings showed a significant relationship between nutritional status, sodium adequacy, and fiber adequacy with both systolic and diastolic blood pressure (p < 0.05). Nutritional status had a positive correlation with blood pressure, while sodium intake and fiber intake showed a negative correlation. There is a significant association between nutritional status, sodium adequacy, and fiber adequacy with blood pressure in adolescents. Promoting balanced nutrition from an early age is important to prevent the onset of hypertension.

Abstract

Background: Primary dysmenorrhea refers to menstrual pain that occurs before or during menstruation without any abnormalities in the reproductive organs and is most commonly experienced by adolescent girls aged 15-25 years. Globally, the prevalence reaches up to 90%, while in Indonesia it is 54.89%. Factors associated with primary dysmenorrhea include age under 30 years, early menarche, BMI under 18 kg/m², family history, and nutritional status. Objective: To examine the difference in primary dysmenorrhea level based on food consumption and dietary habit among female students at YWKA High School Bandung. Methods: This study used a quantitative design with a retrospective case-control approach. The population consisted of 96 female students from grades X and XI, with 58 students in the case group and 38 in the control group, selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using the SQ-FFQ and AFHC questionnaires, and analyzed using multivariate logistic regression. Results: there was an association of primary dysmenorrhea with food consumption of magnesium (OR: 2.670; 95%CI: 1.057-6.741; p-value: 0.038), family history (OR: 0.336; 95%CI: 0.133-0.853; p-value: 0.022), and dietary habit (OR: 3.432; 95%CI: 1.348-8.743; p-value: 0.01). Meanwhile, BMI (OR: 1.58; 95%CI: 0.59-4.231; p-value: 0.362) was a confounding variable. Conclusion: These findings emphasize the importance of education on balanced nutrition as part of promotive efforts to enhance reproductive health and reduce the incidence of primary dysmenorrhea among adolescent girls.

Abstract

Street food plays a significant role in urban food systems, particularly in developing countries where it provides affordable and accessible meal options for diverse populations. This study examines the determinants of street food purchasing decisions among consumers in Lengkong Kecil, Bandung, a major urban culinary hub that attracts students and low- to middle-income groups. As ready-to-eat food becomes increasingly preferred for its convenience and affordability, understanding the role of food accessibility is critical. While previous studies have primarily focused on hygiene and price, this study highlights the combined influence of physical and economic access as a key determinant of consumer behavior. This study employed a cross-sectional analytical design involving 148 respondents selected through accidental sampling. Participants were consumers aged 18 years and older who purchased street food in the Lengkong Kecil area. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using logistic regression. The results showed that perceived food accessibility was the only variable significantly associated with purchasing decisions (p = 0.002; OR = 4.6; 95% CI: 1.7–12.3). Consumers who perceived street food as geographically accessible and economically affordable were significantly more likely to make purchases. Interestingly, although 58.1% of respondents perceived vendor hygiene as poor and 69.6% perceived sanitation as inadequate, these factors did not significantly influence purchasing decisions, highlighting a behavioral paradox in this urban context. In conclusion, food accessibility—defined by both proximity and affordability—plays a dominant role in shaping street food purchasing behavior. Policy and intervention strategies should focus on optimizing vendor placement in high-traffic areas, particularly near student populations, and maintaining affordable price points to better support urban consumers, especially those from low-income groups.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the correlation between the frequency of ultra-processed food (UPF) intake, blood pressure, and physical activity in outpatients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) at RSAU dr. M. Salamun. A cross-sectional research design was employed. The study population comprised outpatients attending the Interne Polyclinic at RSAU dr. M. Salamun, and a total of 50 participants were selected using a total sampling technique. Data analysis was conducted using the Shapiro-Wilk test for normality and the Spearman Rho test for correlation. The results indicated a significant correlation between blood pressure and physical activity with fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that elevated blood pressure and low levels of physical activity negatively impact glycemic control. Therefore, lifestyle interventions focusing on blood pressure management and increased physical activity may contribute to improved blood glucose regulation in individuals with T2DM.

Abstract

Disturbances during menstruation such as dysmenorrhea affect the performance of female athletes. However, research on the physiologic conditions of female Taekwondo athletes was still very limited. This study aimed to obtain a predictive model for the level of dysmenorrhea and to test which variable had the most influence on the rate of dysmenorrhea. The research design adopted cross-sectional methods. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed to analyze the effect of BMI and micronutrient intake of nine elite regional and national female Taekwondo. The results showed that the average female athlete had a normal BMI, while for micronutrient intake per day, the average intake of vitamin E was low, the vitamin B6 intake was low, Magnesium intake was low and Calcium intake was fulfilled. The most influence on the occurrence of primary dysmenorrhea in female Taekwondo athletes was calcium intake. This study was limited to measurements of BMI and dietary micronutrient intake, which might help provide data that coaches, athlete nutritionists, and athletes could be used to predict and assess the incidence of primary dysmenorrhea. More research could use the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), which could better explain how often athletes consumed certain food ingredients over a specific time period.
