Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of using the Augmented Reality (AR)-based Assemblr Edu application on high school students' learning interest and cognitive learning outcomes in hydrocarbon material. The study used a quasi-experimental approach with a nonequivalent control group design, involving two classes selected through cluster random sampling techniques, namely the experimental class using Assemblr Edu and the control class with conventional learning. The research instruments included a multiple-choice learning outcome test and a Likert-scale learning interest questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out through normality tests, homogeneity tests, and independent t-tests. The results showed a significant difference between student learning outcomes in the experimental and control classes (Sig. 2-tailed = 0.000 < 0.05), which indicates that the use of Assemblr Edu has a positive effect on improving student learning outcomes. In addition, student learning interest in the experimental class was in the very high category with an average score of 3.56. These findings indicate that three-dimensional and interactive visualization of chemical concepts through AR can increase students' affective engagement and cognitive understanding. Thus, Assemblr Edu has the potential to be an effective, innovative learning medium for abstract chemistry material.

Abstract

The swimming crab (Portunus pelagicus) is a fishery commodity that produces large amounts of shell waste and has the potential to be used as a source of chitin. This study aims to isolate chitin from swimming crab shells through demineralization and deproteinization processes and then characterize it using FTIR, accompanied by a literature review regarding the potential of chitin as a cholesterol-lowering agent. The demineralization stage produced a yield of 35.07%, while the yield of chitin after deproteination reached 87.10%. FTIR analysis showed typical chitin absorption bands, namely N–H stretching (3255 cm⁻¹), Amide I (1621 cm⁻¹), Amide II (1552 cm⁻¹), C–O–C asymmetric stretching (1154 cm⁻¹), and β-(1→4) glycosidic bonds (872.8 cm⁻¹), which confirmed the formation of the chitin structure. Based on a literature review, chitin and chitosan have the potential to lower cholesterol levels through bile acid binding and reduced lipid absorption. Therefore, chitin from crab shell waste is suitable for development as a raw material for bioactive chitosan, although further biological testing is needed

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Discovery Learning model on student learning outcomes and conceptual understanding in chemical bonding material, as well as to determine the correlation between learning outcomes and conceptual understanding. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group design in two classes selected randomly. The instrument was a multiple-choice test that met the criteria for measuring learning outcomes and conceptual understanding. Data were analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and independent sample t-tests. Normality tests showed that all data were normally distributed. Homogeneity tests showed that the data were homogeneous. The results showed that the learning outcomes of the experimental class (79.85) were higher than those of the control class (73.03) with a sig. value of 0.000 < 0.05. Conceptual understanding in the experimental class (72,12) was also higher than in the control class (62,87) with a sig. value of 0.034 < 0.05. Additionally, there is a positive correlation between learning outcomes and conceptual understanding with r = 0.798 and sig. 0.000 < 0.05. Thus, the Discovery Learning model is effective in improving learning outcomes and conceptual understanding, and the correlation between the two is classified as high.
