Abstract

Abstract Desalination is one of the solutions used to reduce water shortages in Indonesia. Desalination is the process of producing clean water by removing dissolved substances in seawater. Apart water problems, several regions in Indonesia still experience problem with access to electricity. Based on data Electricity Statistics 2019 and PLN Electricity Price 2017, there are at least 6 regions with low electrification levels and high electricity prices, such as Ambon, Raja Ampat, Toli-Toli, Bau-Bau, Ketapang, and Kapuas. With the price of PLN electricity per 1 kWh for Ambon and Raja Ampat is IDR 2,677, Toli-Toli IDR 2,255, Bau-Bau IDR 2,169, Ketapang IDR 1,692, and Kapuas IDR 1,149. Meanwhile, the price of PLN electricity per 1 kWh in other areas such as West Java only IDR 911. Therefore, it is necessary to find steps that can reduce the price of electricity. To determine the type of suitable generator for each region used by Desalination Economic Evaluation Program (DEEP) 5.1. The results of study show that for Ambon, Bau-Bau, Raja Ampat, Toli-Toli, Ketapang, and Kapuas can applied gas cycle nuclear power plant (PLTN) as they provide cheap electricity prices of IDR 926.10 per 1 kWh. For water desalination in Ambon, Bau-Bau, Toli-Toli, Ketapang, and Kapuas, a gas cycle nuclear power plant (NGC) with MED distillation at a price per 1 m3 are IDR 10,895.25, IDR 11,468.68, IDR 11,468, IDR 10,608.53, and IDR 10.751.89 in sequence. Keywords: DEEP 5.1, Desalination, and PLTN.

Abstract

Several types of upward motion of a ball in a cylinder filled with water are observed in experiment such as straight, damped zigzag, and zigzag upward motion. Center of mass of the balls and the way the balls are released play important role to determine the type of occuring upward motion. A simple theoretical model regarding only gravitational force, Stokes drag force, and Archimedes bouyancy force, where the work points of these forces are not coincident, are developed and used to explain the damped zigzag motion.

Abstract

A ball supported by a spring is set on top of a plate which is sinusoidal vibrated. The motion is limited to one dimension motion. It is assumed that the spring is an ideal one with zero mass. The vibrating plate is considered much heavier than the ball, so that the ball motion has no influence on the plate motion. Plate vibration frequency is varied around the frequency of ball-spring system. Resonance phenomenon is reported, which needs a phase match condition to occur.

Abstract

One-dimensional ideal diatomic gas is simulated through possible types of motions of its molecule. Energy of each type of its motion is calculated by both theoretical and numerical methods. Analytical calculation of kinetic energy of an atom in translational-vibrational motion is not simple, but it can be solved by numerical method using molecular dynamic simulation. This paper justifies that the kinetic energy of a diatomic molecule can be determined by two different approaches which give the same results. In the first approach, the kinetic energy is calculated as a summation of kinetic energy of each atom. In the second approach, the kinetic energy is calculated as a summation of kinetic energy of translational and vibrational motions.

Abstract

In this study, lattice-gas cellular automata were used to solve the flow of incompressible Newtonian-fluid in porous media microchannels. We discuss fluid flow between two stationary parallel plates. By applying a constant pressure gradient, volumetric flux was determined as a function of time until a steady condition is achieved. For steady laminar flow, its velocity profile is parabolic. For flow in porous media between two stationary parallel plates, the results show that medium permeability depends on porosity and obstacle configurations. For a single obstacle, the permeability is a parabolic function with respect to positions of an obstacle in the direction perpendicular to the flow. The permeability is smallest when the obstacle is at the central line along the flow. A maximum permeability may be achieved when the obstacles attached to the channel wall. Other obstacle structures give lower permeability, even zero permeability for dead end microchannels.

Abstract

Fusion reaction simulation of two types of nucleon: proton and neutron, is reported in this paper. The interactions between these nucleons are assumed to be only the nuclear force and electrostatic. The modeling is done in a classical approach where molecules formed by the nucleons are being collided with each other. In the model, some parameters were configured to see how these parameters affect the simulation. Some interesting results is that we can find a stable Helium-5 and a neutron-neutron pair as the product of the collision which should not have been possible due to the the quark interactions inside them. This leads us to a conclusion that we need to add a force-model for quark interaction. We do this by using an electrostatic-like force. However using this model, we may end up to instability of the tritium. In this paper we also report a configuration where the neutron-pair is unstable while tritium is stable.

Abstract

Rayleigh-Taylor instability phenomena were encountered in science world, both on a small scale and large scale (interstellar gas). Rayleigh-Taylor instability is the interpenetration of material that occurs when a fluid is above the other fluid with smaller mass density. The fluid which was originally located in the upper part will continuously broke down and the void is filled by a fluid which was originally located in lower part, so it looks like a bubble. In computational fluid dynamic field, this phenomenon is one of the benchmarks used to test the performance of buoyancy force on a numerical method. On the particle method, particularly, the Rayleigh-Taylor instability has been successfully simulated using Moving Particle Semi-implicit (MPS) method. Similar to the MPS, on this study, the Rayleigh-Taylor instability between the silicon oil and water which driven by buoyancy force was simulated using finite volume particle (FVP) method. From the simulation results it can be concluded that the shape of the bubble produced in the present calculation is similar to the results observed in the experiments and methods of MPS.

Abstract

This study aims to develop in-house software for data visualization program using Python programming language. Implement a simple algorithm and use the matplotlib library for 2D plotting. The results of development of this program were tested using a dataset from random motion simulation results of many particles modeled by two-dimensional circle shape and the diameter size as D. Data visualization in the form of particles configuration then confirmed with the particles configuration of the simulation results. Based on the test, it is found that the particles configuration results of the visualization are same as the configuration of the simulated particles. This shows that the data visualization program that has been developed can be used to process other data stored in a predetermined data format.
