Abstract

Abstract

The use of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in Physics Learning has been widely used, but only as a learning model that is used to determine its effects on students. Whereas PjBL can also be used as a model to produce new information and experimental tools with the right method. This research is a laboratory experimental study that aims to produce an experimental device to determine the refractive index of various materials using refractive and perfect reflection methods. To complete this research, the team followed the steps of PjBL which consisted of 7 stages, namely Challenging Problems or Questions, Sustained Inquiry, Authenticity, Student Voice and Choice, Reflection, Critique and Revision, and Public Product. By following the PJBL stages, the team succeeded in producing an experimental device with good results. The results show that the experimental device produced works well and is able to determine the refractive index of the material with a fairly accurate value where the error value is below 1%. From this process also, the team acquired more skills, namely critical thinking, problem-solving, communication and collaboration.

Abstract

Abstract

Kata-kata kunci: partikel granular, dinamika molekuler, asteroid, kompaksi. Abstract An asteroid is assumed to be constucted from particles inealastic collision, which later forms an agregate of particles. Binding between particles is caused only by gravitational force. Normal force is introduced to prevent two particles collapsing into single point as they are colliding and attracted to to each other due to gravitational force. Contactotpy as parameter is presented and it is observed that its value increasing as the agregate becoming denser, and at the end it achieves saturation value. In the simulated system with number of particles N = 22 it is obtained that the contactopy reaches saturation value C = 35. Keywords: granular particles, molecular dynamics, asteroid, compaction

Abstract

Several two-dimension particles in the form of a disk, which only interact through gravitational force and normal force, are simulated. Assumed that there are only two values of particle density (same diameter but different mass). Simulation are conducted until particles position are slightly constant. It is obtained that density is varied radially, decreasing with an increase of radial position, and nearly isotropic angularly in final condition. It has been simulated N = 64 particles with mass ratio mA/mB = 0.25 for 944 s simulation time. Keywords: asteroid forming, granular material, density distribution, binary mixture

Abstract

Abstract Simulation of a spherical grain floating in fluid surface propagating sinusoidal wave is performed using molecular dynamics method by assuming that superposition of buoyant, gravitational, and viscous forces will make the grain to move in two-dimension. It is different than previous result, where the grain can only move in one-dimension since size of the grain Db << λf. In this work Db < λf so that direction of buoyant force must be considered. It is predicted theoretically that the two-dimensional motion tends to be a one-dimensional motion when Db/λ less than a certain value, but it remains as a two-dimensional motion when more than that value. In 20 s of observation frequency of the sinusoidal wave can determine whether the grain will move in the same direction of the travelling wave or not. Keywords: grains, simulation, buoyant force, gravitational force, viscous force.

Abstract

The red blood cell membrane has a complex structure and high deformability. Simulation of that complex red blood cell membrane can simpler use granular-based modeling. Red blood cell is modeled consisting of 50 granular particles connected by springs. An i-particle is connected with two of its first nearest particles which are i+1-particle and i-1-particle and with two of its second nearest particles which are i+2-particle and i-2-particle. Each particle has a spring force and forces from internal hydrostatic pressure. Spring force is a product of the spring constant and change of spring length of two particles. Meanwhile, forces of internal hydrostatic pressure is a product of particle diameter and the difference in the outside and inside pressure of red blood cell membrane. In this research, there is variation in spring length and spring constant that can model deformability of three shapes of red blood cell; those are biconcave, ellipse, and circle. This variation in spring length and spring constant for every cell shape in this modeling can also use for other initial cell shapes, which shows that initial cell shapes deform into shape according to variation used.

Abstract

Simulation of fluidization of a bed of solid particles in a two-dimensional box is performed using molecular dynamics methods by assuming that superposition of buoyant, gravitational, viscous, collision force will make the particle to move in two dimensions. Two different fluid type is used in this simulation, i.e., gas and liquid fluid. By increasing the fluid velocity from small to high, then minimum fluidization condition reached. As a result, fluidization of alumina particle with liquid fluid has a minimum fluidization velocity lower than gas fluid.

Abstract

This study aims to measure the level of Self-Regulated Learning (SRL), conceptual understanding and identify an increase in conceptual understanding after using LVL-BOT. This type of research is Pre-Experimental with One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The research sample consisted of 37 students from physics classes who took modern physics courses. Students’ level of Self-Regulated Learning is administered using a questionnaire, and understanding of concepts is administered using a test. Based on the analysis results, the percentage level of Self-Regulated Learning is at a value of 87.7%, which is included in the very high category. There is a significant difference between the mean pre-test and post-test mean. The N-Gain Values of Photoelectric Effect and Black Body Radiation are 0.47 and 0.57, respectively. This shows an increase in student’s conceptual understanding, which is “enough” after using LVL-BOT.
