Abstract

The digital era presents new challenges for working mothers in the formal sector, who face the complexity of multiple roles. On the one hand, they are required to demonstrate high performance and adapt to technology-based work systems, while on the other hand, family responsibilities remain a top priority. This situation often leads to digital role conflict, cyber fatigue, and excessive workload, which ultimately have a negative impact on work engagement. This study aims to analyze the influence of digital role conflict, cyber fatigue, workload, and boundary management skills on work engagement, with emotional agility as a moderating variable. The research employed a quantitative approach with an explanatory design. The sample consisted of 200 working mothers in the formal sector in Medan City, selected using the Lemeshow formula. Data were collected through a five-point Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results indicate that digital role conflict (β = -0.31; p = 0.004), cyber fatigue (β = -0.27; p = 0.012), and workload (β = -0.22; p = 0.028) have a significant negative effect on work engagement. In contrast, boundary management skills (β = 0.37; p = 0.000) and emotional agility (β = 0.30; p = 0.001) show a significant positive effect. Moreover, emotional agility was found to play a moderating role that strengthens work engagement amid digital pressures.

Abstract

The development of digital technology and the rapid growth of e-commerce have significantly transformed consumer behavior, particularly among Generation Z, who are highly connected to social media. Exposure to promotional content, digital trends, and the convenience of online transaction has the potential to encourage impulsive and hedonic shopping behavior. This study aims to analyze the influence of social media exposure, hedonic shopping motivation, and trust in e-commerce platforms on the online purchasing behavior of Generation Z in Medan City. This study employs a quantitative approach using a survey method. Primary data were collected through the distribution of questionnaires to Generation Z individuals who actively use social media and engage in online shopping. Data analysis was conducted using statistical techniques, including descriptive analysis as well as partial and simultaneous hypothesis testing. The results indicate that social media exposure, hedonic shopping motivation, and trust in e-commerce platforms have a positive and significant effect on the consumptive behavior of Generation Z, both partially and simultaneously. These findings suggest that higher level of social media exposure, hedonic shopping motivation, and trust in e-commerce platforms are associated with a stronger tendency toward online purchasing behavior among Generation Z in Medan City.

Abstract

Background Neonatal sepsis requires prompt antimicrobial treatment. A lack of information on patterns of antibiotic resistance among the bacteria across hospitals hinders the treatment. The COVID-19 pandemic contributed to changes in neonatal infection patterns and antimicrobial resistance.  Data describing these changes remain scarce in Indonesia. Objective To determine the spectrum of pathogens and their antibiotic resistance patterns among Indonesian neonates with sepsis, prior and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods This retrospective study  was done to examine patterns of pathogens and antibiotic resistance in neonates admitted to the neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) at Siloam Hospital Kebon Jeruk and Lippo Cikarang for 6 years, i.e., January 2018 to December 2020 (“Prior/Early COVID-19 Pandemic” or first phase) and January 2021 to December 2023 (“Mid/Late COVID-19 Pandemic” or second phase). The inclusion criteria were newborns with suspected or proven sepsis who underwent microbiological specimen collection for the assessment of antimicrobial resistance. We compared patterns of isolated pathogens and their antibiotic resistance of neonates with sepsis in two private hospitals, prior and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results There were more participants in the first phase than in the second phase (44 vs. 33, respectively), resulting in more pathogenic isolates in the former than the latter phase (43 vs. 23, respectively). There were more Gram-negative bacteria detected than Gram-positive bacteria, although a reduction of several Gram-negative bacterial species from the order of Enterobacterales (including Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli) was detected in the second phase. The resistance of Enterobacterales to gentamicin and third-generation cephalosporins was substantially increased in the second phase. Conclusion Despite an overall decline in isolate numbers, the observed increase in antibiotic resistance among Enterobacterales in the second phase may reflect suboptimal stewardship and indiscriminate use of broad-spectrum antibiotics during the COVID-19 pandemic. This highlights the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance in neonatal sepsis management in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effects of work autonomy, communication openness, and self-efficacy on individual innovation among employees of PT. Karya Bersama. Individual innovation plays a crucial role in enhancing organizational performance, as it contributes to the development of new ideas, improvement of work processes, and overall work quality. Therefore, understanding the factors that influence individual innovation is essential for organizations seeking to remain competitive. This research adopts a quantitative approach using a survey method, with data collected through structured questionnaires distributed to employees of PT. Karya Bersama. A total of 47 respondents were selected using a saturated sampling technique. The collected data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS version 25. The results indicate that work autonomy has a positive and significant effect on individual innovation. Similarly, communication openness also shows a positive and significant influence on individual innovation. In contrast, self-efficacy does not have a significant effect on individual innovation. Furthermore, the simultaneous analysis reveals that all independent variables collectively influence individual innovation, with an adjusted R² value of 0.586, indicating that 58.6% of the variation in individual innovation is explained by the model. These findings suggest that enhancing individual innovation can be achieved by strengthening work autonomy and promoting open communication within the organization.
