Abstract

This study aims to improve English vocabulary reading skills among junior high school students with specific learning difficulties through the implementation of an audiovisual phonics-based instructional method. Conducted as a Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, the research involved four Grade VII students at SMP Negeri 1 Kaliorang during the 2024/2025 academic year. The intervention was delivered in two cycles, each comprising planning, action, observation, and reflection phases. Instructional strategies were designed to enhance phoneme recognition, sound-symbol correspondence, and contextual vocabulary acquisition through multimodal media, including slow-paced videos and interactive visual aids. Data were collected via pre- and post-tests, observation sheets, and student participation checklists. The results showed consistent improvement in students’ vocabulary reading performance, with all participants exceeding the 80% mastery threshold by the end of Cycle II. Teacher implementation scores rose from 77% to 97%, while student engagement increased significantly across sessions. The findings suggest that audiovisual phonics instruction, when combined with structured scaffolding and adapted media, can effectively support vocabulary development among students with reading difficulties. However, further research is recommended to validate the method’s effectiveness in broader and more diverse educational contexts.

Abstract

Temper tantrums represent significant behavioral challenges for autistic students in inclusive educational settings, yet comprehensive understanding of their patterns, triggers, and effective management strategies remains limited, particularly during the critical middle school period when academic and social demands intensify. This qualitative case study employed intensive observation and in-depth interviews to examine temper tantrum patterns in an autistic middle school student (FT) within an inclusive classroom setting at SMP Negeri 1 Sangatta Utara over three months. Data were collected through structured interviews with teachers and peers, behavioral observations, and document analysis, with triangulation ensuring data validity. The study identified a three-phase tantrum pattern: pre-crisis indicators (blank staring, table hitting), crisis manifestation (screaming, object throwing, self-injury), and post-crisis withdrawal. Primary triggers included sensory overstimulation from classroom noise, social misunderstandings, and academic pressure. Tantrum frequency and intensity decreased significantly from first to second semester following implementation of empathetic, non-confrontational interventions including environmental modifications, preventive communication, and role-assignment strategies. The behaviors created multi-dimensional impacts affecting classroom dynamics, peer anxiety, and instructional quality. Systematic environmental accommodations combined with empathetic intervention strategies can substantially reduce tantrum frequency and intensity in autistic middle school students. Success requires understanding tantrums as communication attempts reflecting neurological differences rather than behavioral problems requiring discipline. Effective inclusive education demands comprehensive teacher training on autism sensory processing, environmental modifications including noise reduction and visual simplification, and policy-level support for sustained intervention implementation.

Abstract

Stunting sebuah masalah gizi yang sangat serius merupakan masalah kekurangan gizi kronis yang disebabkan oleh kurang asupan zat gizi atau nutrisi dalam waktu cukup lama. Stunting pada balita dapat disebabkan oleh faktor asupan makanan atau pola makanan yang tidak seimbang, berat badan lahir rendah (BBLR) dan riwayat penyakit. Tingkat pengetahuan yang baik seorang ibu tentang pola makan mempengaruhi sikap dan tindakan dalam memperhatikan status gizi anaknya sehingga dapat mencegah terjadinya stunting pada anak. Anak dengan BBLR yang diiringi dengan konsums makanan yang tidak adekuat, pelayanan kesehatan yang tidak layak, dan sering terjadi infeksi pada masa pertumbuhan akan terus mengakibatkan terhambatnya pertumbuhan dan menghasilkan anak yang kejadian pendek. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara pengetahuan ibu tentang pola makan dan BBLR dengan kejadian stunting pada balita usia 2-5 tahun di wilayah kerja UPT Puskesmas Janji Kecamatan Bilah Barat Tahun 2022. Jenis penelitian ini ialah penelitian analitik dengan menggunakan pendekatan cross sectional. Hasil uji chi square pertama didapatkan nilai p-value sebesar 0,000 sehingga di artikan terdapat hubungan antara pengetahuan ibu tentang pola makan dengan kejadian stunting pada balita usia 2-5 tahun di wilayah kerja UPT Puskesmas Janji Kecamatan Bilah Barat tahun 2022. Hasil uji chi square kedua didapatkan nilai p-value sebesar 0,000 sehingga di artikan terdapat hubungan antara BBLR dengan kejadian stunting pada balita usia 2-5 tahun di wilayah kerja UPT Puskesmas Janji Kecamatan Bilah Barat tahun 2022. Diharapkan dengan penelitian ini dapat dimanfaatkan Puskesmas Janji Kecamatan Bilah Barat untuk merencanakan program edukasi ibu tentang pola makan serta perbaikan gizi penduduk terlebih pada anak-anak.

Abstract

The use of contraceptives among believers tends to be low. This can be attributed to traditional values that are still very strong in society, where the concept of extended family and the continuity of offspring are considered very important. Nevertheless, efforts have been made to provide understanding and education about the importance of family planning and reproductive health, so that people can choose wisely about the use of contraceptives according to their needs and values. This study aims to analyze the determinants of contraceptive use in adherents of the Mappurondo faith school in Mamasa Regency, West Sulawesi Province, using the 2022 National Population and Family Planning Agency's Family Data Collection Update data set. The population is all families adhering to the Mappurondo faith school in Mamasa district, a sample of 431 couples of childbearing age, with sample criteria that include married women between the ages of 15 and 49 years old, whether they use contraceptives or not. The analysis used is the chi-square test and the multivariate test. The results of the analysis showed that the variables of the age group of couples of childbearing age, Insurance Ownership, Welfare Level, Number of children born alive and got information about the family planning population program and family development from the officers statistically significantly related to the use of family planning in adherents of the Mappurondo faith school in Mamasa Regency, while the variables of Education Level and obtaining information about the population program program Family planning and family development from the media are not related to the use of family planning in the Mappurondo school of belief in Mamasa Regency (p>0.05). Variable Getting information about the KKBPK Program from officers is the most significant variable affecting contraceptive use, followed by the variable of Insurance Ownership. In conclusion, the variation of information about the KKBPK Program from officers did not provide a significant relationship with the use of contraceptives. Suggestions are hoped to improve the quantity and quality of communication, information, and education for family planning officers who provide counselling to the community of the Mappurondo faith.

Abstract

This paper discusses the concept of Metacognitive Strategy and its impact on students' reading interest in teaching reading comprehension. The research aims to determine if there is a significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between students taught using the Metacognitive Strategy and those taught with the conventional approach, as well as to explore the interaction effect of these strategies and students' reading interest. An experimental method was employed, focusing on tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Pagar Alam during the 2012/2013 academic year, with a sample of 60 students selected through a two-stage process. Data were collected using a questionnaire to assess reading interest and tests to measure reading comprehension achievement. Analysis involved a factorial design, employing t-tests and two-way ANOVA, confirming normality and homogeneity of data. Results indicated significant findings: (1) A significant difference in reading achievement for high-interest students, with a p-output of 0.001, lower than 0.05, accepting H1; (2) For low-interest students, the p-output was 0.022, also lower than 0.05, accepting H2; (3) However, the two-way ANOVA showed a significant value of 0.676 for the techniques used, higher than 0.05, leading to the rejection of H3. This indicates that the Metacognitive Strategy is effective in teaching reading comprehension to students regardless of their interest levels.

Abstract

Smoking behavior is seen from the perspective of being considered very detrimental, both for oneself and others around it. This has never subsided and seems to be a behavior that is still acceptable by society. The purpose of Community Service is to improve attitudes and knowledge of smoking cessation programs for high school students in the city of Makassar through socialization and health education. The method of implementing PkM activities used in the community service program is participatory training and role play and is carried out with a group approach, namely meetings with a group of target students. The results show that the level of knowledge increased by more than 50% after the Socialization and Health Education activities were carried out. This shows that this community service activity has succeeded in increasing students' knowledge of smoking cessation programs and prevention methods. The conclusion is that students' knowledge has increased to stop smoking based on the results of the pre-test and post-test and the PkM TEAM expects schools to provide information and socialization and health education in the form of warnings and prohibitions, especially for male students so that they are not influenced by smoking behavior from an early age, both during school hours and outside school hours.
