Abstract

Abstract

This present paper provides a descriptive analysis toward a traditional court dance called Bedhaya, one of the cultural products of the Javanese community in Surakarta which evolved into its modern version Bedhayan due to the flow of global culture. By applying the theories of hermeneutics, ideology, aesthetics and Semiotics, the data are inferred according to the purposed questions. The inquiry is directed to infer the factors encompassing Bedhaya dance such as its emergence and the development, relationship with the existence and its role in the society, the relationship with systems within the society or with various interests. The results as inferred from the data obtained views in looking at the development on the classical dance of Bedhaya into Bedhayan left worthy of critical assessments. The reality of Bedhayan dance in the view of art as an ideology, from the outside, appears that the choreograhers/artists can freely express their creative ideas in the context of the fight agains the classical culture which is strongly enacted by the myths and power of the rulling king. However, it should be noted that Bedhayan dance artists which have managed to bring the classical bedhaya dance out of the walls of the Kraton also in essence always work in the confines of the iron curtain of a creativity called ‘ideology’. Whether consciously or not, being forced or sincere in living it, these choreographers actually fall into the life orientation which solely  concerns the fulfillment of material needs.

Abstract

The Fuzzy Multi-Attribute Decision Making (FMADM) method is an approach to find the best choice from a number of alternatives according to predetermined criteria. In FMADM, there is a technique called Fuzzy Weighted Product (FWP), which uses the concept of ranking by multiplying the value of the criterion by its weight. The weight of the criterion is calculated by multiplying the value by the weight of the criterion. This study aims to apply FWP in assessing the poverty level in an area, where poverty reflects the unmet economic needs of the community according to the average standard of living of the region. One proposed solution is to use the FWP method. This process begins by setting goals, alternative decisions, and criteria that will be used to determine poor areas in West Sumatra Province. The steps to implement FWP include the determination of criteria and their weights, the assessment of alternative preferences (S), and the evaluation of relative preferences (V). The best decision is determined based on the highest relative preference value, which is expected to support decision making in poverty-stricken districts in West Sumatra Province.

Abstract

This study explores the legend of Princess Mandalika and its significance as a symbol of gender struggle among the Sasak tribe on Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara. Data collection methods include observations, interviews, and document analysis. The study also incorporates data from social media platforms such as YouTube, Tik Tok, and Facebook, which feature the legend of Princess Mandalika in Lombok. The analysis employs hermeneutic techniques to interpret the legend's meaning in the context of gender struggle for Sasak women and utilizes semiotic theory to uncover symbols within the legend. This research is driven by the enduring oral traditions within the Sasak farming community, focusing on the folklore surrounding the legend of Princess Mandalika. The findings suggest that the gender struggle for equality, as portrayed in the Legend of Princess Mandalika, still encounters sociocultural barriers. The story highlights the sacrifices made by Mandalika, a king's daughter, as she chose to preserve her honor and kingdom by sacrificing herself in the sea. This act symbolizes the spirit of the Sasak women's gender struggle to maintain harmony and safety. In Sasak culture, the Merariq tradition serves as a conflict resolution method for addressing gender bias against Sasak women. The research underscores that Sasak women continue to fight for equal rights, and their struggle reflects the community's perspective that such rights must be earned.

Abstract

Culture will adapt to where society exists and always adapts to people’s lives. Activities carried out by farming communities in Java include the culture of transporting rays. The farming community’s habit at harvest time is to bring the harvest from the fields to the barn to be stored as food reserves. In Javanese society, the culture of carrying stingrays is a habit that is carried out continuously and has become a tradition. Data was obtained by document study, interviews, and using online media, online magazines, and social media. Community behavior passed down from generation to generation at harvest time makes this habit a routine tradition. Farmers make ngangkut pari a ritual carried out to pay respects to the goddess Sri, the god of rice. Earth’s products should be protected and cared for for human survival. Farmers’ livelihoods provide needs in the agricultural sector, with more and more successful farmers bringing prosperity to society. Preserving human culture must ensure that it continues to exist and is sustainable for the survival of Javanese society. A form of agricultural culture that should remain sustainable.

Abstract

Histoid Leprosy is a variant of lepromatous leprosy with characteristic clinical and histopathological features. Usually it is occured in lepromatous patients who relaps after dapsone monotherapy, in those with dapsone resistance , sometimes even after multidrug treatment, or at times, de novo with characteristic clinical and histopathological features. A 36 years old male, originated from Papua, visited to the skin outpatient clinic with translucent shiny nodules on the left elbow and thumb for the last 18 months. The nodules were multiple, painless and firm. There were nasal congestion, tickening of ear lobes and loss of eye brows. Patient did not have any history of previous antileprotic treatment. Routine blood examination was normal. Bacteriological examination of slit skin smear revealed acid-fast bacilli of Bacterial Index 4+ and Morfologic Index 10%. Histopathology of skin suggested lepromatous leprosy of histoid type with characteristic interlacing bundles of spindle shaped cells. Anti-PGL1 antibody (ELISA) revealed high titer of IgM (>5.300 u/ml) and also IgG anti PGL-1 (>5.300 u/ml). Polymerase chain reaction examination test to detect M.leprae was positive and direct sequencing of M.leprae isolate shows no mutation, which means no resistancy to MDT treatment. Treatment with MDTWHO regiment give clinical improvements and the histoid lesions disappered after 3 months treatment. The histoid form of leprosy in this case developed without any prior treatment of anti leprotic drugs ( de novo ). Some theoretical aspects of the patho-mechanism of histoid leprosy are discussed.

Abstract

Background: Photoaging is premature skin aging caused by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that inhibits the tyrosinase enzyme that can reduce pigmentation. Microneedling procedure can improve the penetration of topical vitamin C, and it has skin rejuvenating effects to reduce wrinkles and minimize pore size. Purpose: The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of topical vitamin C application after microneedling intervention for the clinical improvement of photoaging. Methods: Twenty-four women with photoaged skin participated in this randomization study, and they were divided into control and intervention groups. Solution of 0.9% NaCl and microneedling were performed to control group, and topical vitamin C and microneedling were performed to intervention group. Three intervention sessions were repeated at a 2 week interval. Signs of photoaging such as pigmentation, wrinkles, and pores were evaluated using Metis DBQ3-1, and the data were obtained numerically. Result: The data analysis revealed a significant improvement in pigmentation in the intervention group compared to control group (p<0.05). Wrinkles and pores evaluation revealed no significant difference between the control and intervention groups. Conclusion: Topical vitamin C after microneedling procedure has provided a significant improvement in pigmentation compared to NaCl 0.9% after microneedling.

Abstract

Background: Oral candidiasis is an oral infection caused by Candida albicans. It is one of the most common opportunistic infections found in patients with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). Due to growing resistance and side effects to common antifungal drugs in recent years, there have been many studies on naturalsubstances as antifungal agents. In this study, Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) were examined for in vitro antifungal activity against Candida strains. Purpose: To compare the in vitro antifungal activity of EGCG and nystatin towards Candida sp. isolate in HIV/AIDS patients with oral candidiasis. Methods: This research was an experimental laboratory study conducted at the Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital, Surabaya. Forty isolates of Candida albicans and Candida non-albicans were included. The isolates were tested for antifungal activity using the well diffusion and microdilution method for nystatin 1000 IU and EGCG 1.25%. Result: Diffusion test results showed a greater inhibition zone for nystatin against all analyzed Candida strains with an average diameter for Candida albicans formed by EGCG of 2.15 mm and 7.4 mm for Candida non-albicans. Meanwhile, based on the microdilution test, EGCG was better than nystatin towards all analyzed Candida strains. This study showed EGCG Minimum Fungicidal Concentration (MFC) as high as 50% (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Nystatin antifungal activity was better than EGCG supported by a greater inhibition zone in the well diffusion method. However, the antifungal activity of EGCG was better than nystatin based on microdilution methods.
