Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan jenis pencampuran bahasa yang digunakan oleh penduduk desa Nusa Sari dan juga cara peduduk desa Nusa Sari untuk menggunakan pencampuran bahasa tersebut dalam berkomunikasi dengan orang lain di masyarakat. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif. Narasumber dalam penelitian ini adalah dua keluarga yang terdiri dari lima anggota keluarga. Data dikumpulkan berdasarkan tiga teknik, yaitu Observasi, Wawancara, dan Dokumen Teknik. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan beberapa instrumen, yaitu: pedoman dalam wawancara, perangkat perekam, catatan dan pena. Dalam menganalisa data, menggunakan tiga domain: Persahabatan, Pertetanggaan, dan Keluarga. Ada tiga proses dalam menganalisis data: data reduksi, penggambaran data, penarikan kesimpulan dan verifikasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada tiga dialek yang digunakan oleh penduduk desa Nusa Sari dalam komunikasi sehari-hari, seperti dialek Nusa Penida, dialek Jembrana, dan Bahasa Indonesia. Tapi dialek utama yang digunakan adalah dialek Nusa Penida dan dialek Jembrana karena Bahasa Indonesia memiliki frekuensi rendah untuk digunakan di masyarakat desa Nusa Sari. Ada dua jenis pencampuran bahasa yang digunakan oleh penduduk desa Nusa Sari, seperti Insertion dan Alternation. Sementara itu tidak ditemukan adanya penggunaan dari Congruent Lexicalization di dalam penelitian ini.Kata Kunci : jenis-jenis pencampuran bahasa, dialek Nusa Penida This study aimed to discover the types of code mixing used by Nusa Sari villagers and also the way Nusa Sari villagers used the code mixing to communicate with other people in the community. This study was a qualitative research. The informants were two families consisted of five family members. The data were collected based on three techniques, which were Observation, Interviewing, and Document Technique. The data were collected by using some instruments, namely: interview guideline, recording device, note and pen. The data were analyzed through the use of three domains: Friendship, Neighborhood, and Family. There were three processes in analyzing the data: data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing and verification. The results of the study showed that there were three codes spoken by Nusa Sari villagers in their daily communication, such as Nusa Penida dialect, Jembrana dialect, and Bahasa. But the major codes used were Nusa Penida dialect and Jembrana dialect since Bahasa had a low frequency in the community of Nusa Sari village. There were two types of code mixing used by Nusa Sari villagers, such as Insertion and Alternation. Meanwhile there was no used of Congruent Lexicalization found in this study.keyword : types of code mixing, Nusa Penida dialect

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan antara siswa kelas tujuh yang diajar dengan media audiovisual (video) dengan siswa yang diajar tanpa media audiovisual atau dengan media audio saja (cara konvensional dalam mengajar listening) di SMP Negeri 1 Mengwi, tahun ajaran 2017/2018. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas tujuh di SMP Negeri 1 Mengwi, tahun ajaran 2017/2018 yang dimana jumlah seluruhnya adalah 402 siswa. Sampel penelitian ini adalah kelas VII A dan VII B di SMP Negeri 1 Mengwi yang dimana tiap kelas terdapat 32 jumlah siswa. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan tes pilihan ganda (multiple choice test), dengan total jumlah pertanyaan adalah sebanyak 20. Data yang dikumpulkan dianalisis menggunakan analisis statistik deskriptif dan statistik inferensial (uji-t). Berdasarkan hasil analisis, data menunjukkan bahwa thit > ttab yaitu 7.34 > 1.99. Jika dibandingkan akan terlihat bahwa thit > ttab. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dari mengajar listening dengan menggunakan media audiovisual (video) daripada menggunakan cara yang konvensional dalam mengajar listening (dengan menggunakan media audio saja).Kata Kunci : Pemahaman Listening, Media Audiovisual, Media Audio (Cara yang biasa) The purpose of this study was to know the differences between the seventh-grade students who were taught by audiovisual (video) media and the students who were taught without audiovisual media or by audio media only (conventional way in teaching listening) at SMP Negeri 1 Mengwi, academic year 2017/2018. The population of this study was the whole students in class VII of SMP Negeri 1 Mengwi academic year 2017/2018 in which the total students were 402. The samples in this study were Class VII A and VII B in SMP Negeri 1 Mengwi in which each class consisted of 32 students. The data were collected by using a multiple-choice test, with the total number of the questions were 20 questions. The data collected were analyzed by using descriptive statistics analysis and inferential statistics analysis (t-test). Based on the result of the analysis, it showed t.obs > t.cv which was 7.34 > 1.99. If compared, it showed that t.obs > t.cv. Therefore, it can be concluded that there was a significant effect of teaching listening by using audiovisual media rather than using the conventional way in teaching listening (by using audio media only).keyword : Listening Comprehension, Audiovisual Media, Audio Media (Conventional Way)

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti apakah terdapat pengaruh yang berarti dari strategi predict- locate-add-note (PLAN) terhadap kompetensi membaca siswa kelas delapan di SMP Negeri 3 Singaraja pada tahun akademik 2015/2016. Teknik Sampling yang di gunakan pada penelitian ini adalah Random Sampling dan model penelitiannya adalah Post Only Control Group Design. Dua kelas yaitu kelas VIII F dan kelas VIII E dipilih sebagai Samples pada penelitian ini. Kelas VIIIF di pilih sebagai The experimental Group dan kelas VIII E di pilih sebagai The control Group. Tiap kelas terdiri dari jumlah siswa yang berbeda, kelas VIII F terdiri dari 33 siswa sedangkan kelas VIII E terdiri dari 34 siswa. Data pada kompetensi membaca didapat dengan menggunakan tes kompetensi membaca. Data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisi dengan menggunakan t-test. Hasil dari Descriptive Analysis menunjukkan nilai rata-rata untuk kelompok yang menggunakan srategi PLAN sebesar 80,06, sedangkan kelompok yang menggunakn strategi Teacher-centered sebesar 64,61. Hasil dari t-test menunjukkan t-observed (to) sebesar 8,354 yang menunjukkan lebih besar daripada t-critical value (tcv), 1,507. Ini berarti Alternative Hypothesis yang dinyatakan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang berarti terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa kelas delapan antara dua kelompok diterima, yang mana, itu dapat dilihat dari nilai rata-rata kedua kelompok tersebut, pemahaman membaca siswa yang diajar menggunakan strategi PLAN lebih baik daripada pemahaman membaca siswa yang diajar menggunakan strategi Teacher-Centered. Kata Kunci : Kompetensi membaca, Strategi PLAN, Teacher-Centered Approach. This study was aimed to investigate whether or not there was a significant effect of predict-locate-add-note (PLAN) strategy on the students’ reading competency of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Singaraja in academic year 2015/2016. The sampling technique used in this study was Random Sampling and the research design was Post Test Only Control Group Design. Two classes, VIII F and VIII E were selected as the samples of this study. Class VIII F was selected as the experimental group and class VIII E was selected as the control group. Each class consisted of different number of students; VIII F consisted of 33 students, while VIII E consisted of 34 students. Data on reading competency were gathered by using a reading competency test. The obtained data were then analyzed by using t-test. Result of descriptive analysis showed that the mean score for the group using PLAN Strategy was 80,06, while the group using Teacher-Centered was 64,61. The result of t-test showed that t-observed (to) was 8,354, which was higher than the t-critical value (tcv), 1,507. This meant that Alternative Hypothesis which was stated that there was significant difference of the eighth grade students’ reading comprehension between the two groups was accepted, this means that reading comprehension taught by using PLAN Strategy was better than the students’ reading comprehension taught by Teacher-Centered Approach.keyword : Reading Competency, PLAN Strategy, Teacher-Centered Approach

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan jumlah fonem dari Dialek Sidetapa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif yang memiliki karakteristik sinkronik. Tiga domain dipilih berdasarkan kriteria yaitu keluarga, persahabatan, dan dilingkungan sekitar. Data dikumpulkan berdasarkan pada percakapan alami yang direkam secara langsung. Data yang dikumpulkan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa SD memiliki 35, yaitu: enam vokal: /ʌ/, /i/,/u/,/e/,/o/ and /ǝ/, enam diftong; /ʌʊ/, /iʌ/, /uʌ/, /iɔ/,/iu/, and /ʌi/, sembilan belas konsonan; /p/, /b/, /t/, /d/, /k/, /g/, /ʔ/, /s/, /c/, /j/, /l/, /h/, /m/, /n/, /ñ/, /ŋ/, /r/, /w/,/y/, 4 gugus konsonan; /br/, /pr/, /bl/ and /ŋl/ dan tiga proses fonologi, yaitu asimilasi pemungutan, netralisasi dan variasi bebas. Tidak semua fonem memiliki distribusi yang lengkap (awal, posisi tengah dan akhir)Kata Kunci : sidetapa, sistem fonologi, studi deskriptif kualitatif This study aimed at describing the number of phonemes of Sidetapa Dialect (SD). This study used descriptive qualitative approach which has synchronic characteristic. Three domains were chosen based on a set of criteria, namely: Family, Friendship, and Neighborhood. The data was collected based on natural speech which was recorded spontaneously. The data that has been collected was analyzed descriptively. The result of the study shows that SD has 35 phonemes, namely: /ʌ/, /i/,/u/,/e/,/o/ and /ǝ/, 6 vowels; 6 diphthongs; /ʌʊ/, /iʌ/, /uʌ/, /iɔ/, /iu/, and /ʌi/, 19 consonants; /p/, /b/, /t/, /d/, /k/, /g/, /ʔ/, /s/, /c/, /j/, /l/, /h/, /m/, /n/, /ñ/, /ŋ/, /r/, /w/,/y/, 4 consonant Clusters; /br/, /pr/, /bl/ and /ŋl/ and 3 phonological processes, namely: regressive assimilation, neutralisation and free variation. Abstract

Penelitian ini dirancang dalam bentuk deskriptif kualitatif yang menggambarkan sistem fonologi Kutuh dialek. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan jumlah fonem dan distribusinya. Penelitian ini hanya berfokus pada fonem segmental dalam Kutuh Dialek. Ada tiga informan yang dipilih berdasarkan satu set kriteria. Data dikumpulkan berdasarkan tiga daftar kosakata, yaitu: Swadesh, Nothofer, dan Holle. Tiga teknik digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data, yaitu observasi, rekaman, dan teknik wawancara (mendengarkan dan mencatat). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Kutuh dialek memiliki 50 fonem dan tidak semua fonem memiliki distribusi lengkap (awal, tengah, posisi akhir). Fonem dapat diklasifikasikan menjadi: enam vokal; ʌ /, / i /, u /, / e /, / o /, / ə /, sebelas diftong; / ʌi /, / iʌ /, / ʌu /, / uʌ /, /uə /, / ʌə /, / ʌɛ /, / ʌɔ /, / ui /, / iu /, / iə /, lima geminate vokal; / ʌʌ /, / ʊʊ /, / ɔɔ /, / ɪɪ /, / əə /, sembilan belas konsonan; / p /, / b /, / t /, / m /, / d /, / g /, / h /, / c /, / r /, / s /, / n /, / y /, / j /, / w /, / ʔ /, / k /, / l /, / ŋ /, / ñ /, dan sembilan konsonan cluster; / kr /, / pr /, / br /, bl /, / kl /, / tl /, / ml /, / sl / dan / pl /.Kata Kunci : kualitatif, fonem, sistem fonologis, dialek This study was designed in form of descriptive qualitative that described Kutuh Balinese phonological system. This study aimed at describing the number of phonemes and their distributions. This study focused only on the segmental phonemes in Kutuh Dialect (KD). There were three informants chosen based on a set of criteria. The data were collected based on three word lists, namely: Swadesh’, Nothofer’s, and Holle’s. Three techniques were used to collect the data, namely observation, recording, and interview technique (listening and note-taking). As the result of this study, it shows that Kutuh Dialect has 50 phonemes and not all of phonemes have complete distribution(initial, middle, final position). Abstract

Penelitian deskriptif kualitatif ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan perbedaan dan persamaan awalan dan akhiran dalam hal process derivasi dan inlfeksi dari dialek Wongaya Gede dan Tajen. Data dikumpulkan melalui teknik observasi, rekaman, dan interpiu (mendengarkan dan mencatat). Terdapat enam informan yang dipilih dari dua dialek. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa terdapat lima awalan dan enam akhiran yang ada di dialek Wongaya Gede: awalan {ә-}, {kә-}, {mә-}, {N-}, dan {si-} serta akhiran {-an}, {-in}, {-n}, {ne-}, {-ә}, dan {-әng}. Sedangkan, terdapat enam awalan dan akhiran yang ada di dialek Tajen: awalan {a-}, {bә-}, {kә-}, {mә-}, {N-}, dan {si-}, serta akhiran {-ang}, {-an}, {-in}, {-n}, {-ә}, dan {-ne}. Awalan yang sama yang mengalami morfem derivasi adalah awalan {kә-}, {mә-}, {N-}, dan {si-} dan tidak adanya perbedaan awalan. Awalan yang sama yang mengalami morfem infleksi adalah awalan {mә-}, {N-} sedangkan awalan yang berbeda adalah awalan {-ә} di dialek Wongaya Gede yang memiliki fungsi sama dengan awalan {a-} di dialek Tajen yang hanya dibedakan dari cara pengucapannya dan awalan {bә-} yang hanya ada di dialek Tajen. Tidak adanya persamana akhiran yang mengalami morfem derivasi dari kedua dialek, sedangkan akhiran yang berbeda adalah akhiran {-ang}, {-an}, {-in} yang hanya terdapat di dialek Tajen dan akhiran {-әng} di dialek Wongaya Gede yang memiliki fungsi yang sama dengan akhiran {-ang} dari dialek Tajen namun dibedakan dari segi pengucapannya. Persamaan akhiran yang mengalami morfem infleksi adalah akhiran {-an}, {-in}, {-n}, {ne-}, {-ә} dan tidak adanya perbedaan. Kata Kunci : Awalan dan Akhiran Derivasi, Awalan dan Akhiran Infleksi, Dialek Wongaya Gede dan Tajen This descriptive qualitative study aimed at comparing the differences and similarities of prefixes and suffixes in Wongaya Gede and Tajen dialects in the terms of derivational and inflectional processes. The data were collected through observation, recording, and interview (listening and noting) techniques. There were six informants chosen of the two dialects. The results of the study show that there are five prefixes and six suffixes existing in Wongaya Gede: prefix {ǝ-}, {kǝ-}, {mǝ-}, {N-}, and {si-} and suffix {-an}, {-in}, {-n}, {-nǝ}, {-ǝ}, and {-ǝng}. Meanwhile, there are six prefixes and suffixes existing in Tajen dialect: prefix {a-}, {bǝ-}, {kǝ-}, {mǝ-}, {N-}, and {si-} and suffix {-ang}, {-an}, {-in}, {-n}, and {-ǝ}, and {-nǝ}. The same prefixes undergoing derivational morphemes are prefix {kǝ-}, {mǝ-}, {N-}, and {si-} and there is no different prefixes. The same prefixes undergoing inflectional morphemes are prefix {mǝ-}, and {N-} and the difference is prefix {ǝ-} of Wongaya Gede dialect which has the same function with prefix {a-} of Tajen dialect differentiating on how they are pronounced and prefix {bǝ-}. There is no similarities of suffixes which undergo derivational morphemes. The different suffixes undergoing derivational morphemes are suffix {-ang}, {-an}, and {-in} which was found on Tajen dialect, and suffix {-ǝng} of Wogaya Gede dialect which has the same function as suffix {-ang} of Tajen dialect: differentiating on how they are pronounced. The same suffixes undergoing inflectional morphemes are suffix {-an}, {-in}, {-ne}, {-ǝ}, and {-n}. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki strategi komunikasi yang digunakan oleh penjual di dalam berkomunikasi dengan turis di pantai Lovina. Penelitian ini berbentuk deskriptif melibatkan qualitative dan quantitative analisis. Penelitian ini bertempat di pantai Lovina, kabupaten Buleleng. Objek dari penelitian ini adalah strategi komunikasi yang digunakan oleh penjual di pantai Lovina. Narasumber terdiri dari dua penjual. Dari hasil menunjukkan bahwa, ada delapan jenis strategi komunikasi yang digunakan oleh penjual di pantai Lovina. Jenis strategi komunikasi tersebut adalah approximation, foreignizing, code switching, code-based confirmation check, omission, topic avoidance, message abandonment, dan circumlocution. Jenis strategi komunikasi yang paling sering digunakan adalah approximation. Hasil penelitian ini juga menunjukkan bahwa ada dua alasan utama mengapa para penjual menggunakan strategi komunikasi ketika mereka berkomunikasi dengan para turis.Kata Kunci : strategi komunikasi, penjual, orang asing This study aimed to investigate the communication strategies used by shop keepers in communicating with tourists in Lovina Beach. The study was in the form of a descriptive study involving qualitative and quantitative analysis. The study was conducted in Lovina beach, Buleleng regency. The objects of this study were communication strategies used by shop keepers in Lovina Beach. The informants of this study were two shop keepers. The result of analysis showed that there were eight types of communication strategies applied by the shop keepers in Lovina beach. Those types of communication strategies were approximation, foreignizing, code switching, code-based confirmation check, omission, topic avoidance, message abandonment, and circumlocution. The type of communication strategy used most frequently was approximation. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan video instruksional Pengajaran Bahasa Berbasis Tugas yang dilengkapi dengan buku panduannya berdasarkan analisis kebutuhan yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini dan menggambarkan fitur serta kualitas video yang dikembangkan termasuk buku manual. Penelitian ini menggunakan D & D Research Design yang mengadaptasi model Dick dan Carey. Data akan dianalisis secara kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Subyek penelitian ini adalah tiga guru bahasa Inggris SMP di Kabupaten Buleleng untuk mengumpulkan data analisis kebutuhan dan dua orang dosen Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris UNDIKSHA untuk mengumpulkan data tentang kualitas produk yang dikembangkan. Selain itu, objek dari penelitian ini adalah video instruksional Pengajaran Bahasa Berbasis Tugas. Penelitian ini menggunakan lembar observasi, daftar periksa, catatan, pedoman wawancara, dan rubrik penilaian sebagai instrumen untuk mengumpulkan data. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata dari kedua penilaian ahli adalah 4,5; Oleh karena itu video instruksional ini termasuk dalam kategori baik. Peningkatan produk yang disarankan dari hasil keputusan ahli mencakup prbaikan di beberapa bagian video seperti kualitas audio dan stabilitas beberapa adegan. Maka dari itu, produk yang di kembangkan sudah dikategorikan sebagai produk yang bagus.Kata Kunci : Kurikulum 2013, Video Instruksional, Pengajaran Bahasa Berbasis Tugas, Instruksi yang berpusat pada siswa (SCI). This present research was aimed at developing a Task-based Language Teaching instructional video supplemented with its manual book based on the needs analysis conducted in this research and describing the features as well as the quality of the developed video including the manual book. This research utilized a D&D Research Design adapting Dick and Carey model. The data would be analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. The subjects of this research were three junior high school English teachers in Buleleng regency to gather needs analysis data and two lecturers of English Education Department UNDIKSHA to collect data about the quality of the product developed. Besides, the object was Task-based language teaching instructional video. This research used observation sheet, checklist, note, interview guide, and scoring rubric as the instrument to collect the data. The results of this research showed that the mean from both of expert judgments was 4.5; therefore this instructional video belonged to the good category. Suggested product improvements from the expert judgments result included fixing some parts of the video such as the audio quality and stability of some scenes. Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa kelas 8 di SMP N 4 Singaraja dengan menggunakan strategi DRTA. Observasi awal menunjukkan bahwa murid kelas VIIIB3 memiliki kompetensi yang rendah dalam pemahaman membaca. Subyek dari penelitian ini adalah 36 siswa. Untuk menemukan hasil dari pelaksanaan strategi DRTA terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa, peneliti menggunakan penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) sebagai metode penelitian. Dalam penelitian ini, ada dua cycle yang dilaksanakan dalam kelas. Setiap cycle terdiri dari empat aktivitas, yaitu perencanaan, aksi, observasi, dan refleksi. Untuk mendapatkan dan menganalisis data, peneliti menggunakan hasil dari observasi awal, evaluasi dari cycle I dan II, buku harian peneliti, dan kuesioner. Respon siswa bagus terhadap strategi ini. Mereka mengatakan bahwa mereka menyukai kelas membaca karena strategi ini membantu mereka dalam mengetahui konten teks. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan strategi DRTA mampu meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa. Hasil dari tes mean siswa bisa dijelaskan sebagai berikut: Dalam pre-observasi, skor mean siswa adalah 69.28. Dalam cycle I, skor mean dari siswa meningkat menjadi 75.22. Setelah cycle I dilakukan, skor mean siswa meningkat lagi menjadi 84.06. Dari hasil tersebut, bisa disimpulkan bahwa pelaksanaan strategi Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) bisa meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa kelas VIIIB3 di SMP N 4 Singaraja. Kata Kunci : Kata Kunci: Membaca, pemahaman membaca, strategi DRTA This study was conducted in order to improve the reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMP N 4 Singaraja by using DRTA strategy. The preliminary observation showed that students of VIIIB3 had low competency in reading comprehension. The subjects of this study were 36 students. In order to find out the result of the implementation of DRTA strategy toward students’ reading comprehension, the researcher used classroom action research (CAR) as the research method. In this study, there were two cycles conducted in classroom. Each cycle consisted of four activities, namely planning, action, observation, and reflection. To obtain and also analyze the data, the researcher used the result of pre-observation, evaluation in cycle I and II, researcher’s diary, and questionnaire. The students’ responses were good toward this strategy. They stated that they liked in having reading class because this strategy helped them in understanding the content of texts. This study showed that the use of DRTA strategy could improve the students’ reading comprehension. The result of the mean test of students can be stated as follows: In pre-observation, the students’ mean score was 69.28. In cycle I, the mean score of the students increased into 75.22. After the second cycle had been conducted, the students’ mean score increased again into 84.06. From the result, it can be concluded that the implementation of Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) strategy could improve reading competency of VIIIB3 students in SMP N 4 Singaraja.keyword : Reading, reading comprehension, DRTA strategy

Abstract

Artikel ini ditulis berdasarkan hasil penelitian eksperimen yang melibatkan dua variabel yaitu: self- assessment dan prestasi menulis dalam Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek teknik self –assessment pada kompetensi menulis siswa. Sebanyak empat puluh dua siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 1 Sawan tahun akademik 2013/2014 dipilih sebagai sampel penelitian melalui Cluster Random Sampling Technique. Post-Test Only Control Group Design diterapkan dalam penelitian yang berlangsung selama 8 kali. Dari data yang telah dianalisa secara deskriptif dan inferensial, ditemukan bahwa nilai rata-rata dari kelas eksperimental adalah 84.35 dan kelas kontrol sebesar 78.65. Sementara itu, nilai to sebesar 4.932 dan nilai tcv sebesar 2.0009. Hasil ini menunjukan bahwa siswa yang dievaluasi dengan menggunakan teknik self-assessment mendapatkan hasil yang lebih baik daripada siswa yang dievaluasi dengan menggunakan teknik konvensional. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa ada perbedaan signifikan dalam kemampuan menulis antara siswa yang dievaluasi menggunakan metode self-assessment dan siswa yang dievaluasi menggunakan teknik konvensional. Kata Kunci : Penelitian Eksperimental, Self-assessment, Kompetensi Menulis This article was written based on an experimental research involving two variables, namely: self-assessment, and English writing achievement. This research aimed at investigating the effect of self-assessment technique on students’ writing competency. Forty two students of tenth grade in SMA Negeri 1 Sawan in the academic year 2013/2014 were chosen as the sample through Cluster Random Sampling. Post-Test Only Control Group Design was implemented in this experiment. The treatments were conducted 8 times, and after that the post test was administered in order to now the impact of the treatment toward the students’ writing competency. From the data which were analyzed descriptively and inferentially, it was obtained that the Mean score of the experimental group was 84.35 and the Control group was 78.65 while the value of to was 4.932 and tcv was 2.009. The students who were assessed by using self-assessment technique got better result than the students who were assessed by using conventional assessment technique. This research discovered that there was significant difference in writing competency between the students who were assessed by using self assessment technique and students who were assessed by using conventional assessment technique.keyword : Experimental Research, Self-assessment, Writing Competency
