Abstract

Indonesian Region have the condition of complicated tectonic. Indonesian Archipelago is represent meeting of Pacific Plate and Indian-Australian Plate (in Eastern Indonesia), and also Eurasia Plate and Indian-Australia Plate (in Western Indonesia), and also smaller plate ( Caroline Plate and Philippine Sea Plate).Plate boundaries can be estimated by zone of active earthquake, zone of mass movement in mountain region, zone of volcanism, zone of magmatisme, and zone of hydrocarbon.Estimation of plate tectonic boundary is important to support an investigation and research of mineral resources, energy resources, and terrain resources can be predicted. On land resources study, plates tectonic boundary is most important to anticipate of geological disaster.

Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACTSoil improvement is one of the methods of soil reinforcement. One method of soil improvement is the addition of soil with lime (CaO). The swelling soil (expanding when wet conditions, and shrinking when dry conditions) is identified from the value of soil activity. The behavior of soil activity decreases with increasing CaO, but for soils in weathered volcanic areas (volcanic breccia and lava) as in Jatinangor, with the value of high soil activity, the optimum addition of CaO to the soil is 15% and not more than 20%. Excessive addition of CaO tends to change the behavior of soil activity and increase the rate of activity. In the soil from weathered volcanic rock (tuff) as in Cigintung Village, District Malausma, in Majalengka, with the value of moderate to high soil activity, the addition of CaO is 15% to 20%. More than 20% CaO, activity number (A) decreases, but cohesion (c, Kg/M2) will decrease too, so the strength of soil will decrease.  Keywords: swelling, activity number, soil improvement,  ABSTRAKPerbaikan tanah (soil improvement) adalah salah satu metode perkuatan tanah.

Abstract

Soil in research areal consist of CH (clay, high plastisitas) and MH. (silt, high plastisitas). Soil activity at area of Jatinangor is vary from low activity to high. But in general soil activity is hidh-medium. Activity number by Seed is A = 0.40 until 0.86 with nature mineral of kaolinitic until ilitic. Stability of slope can be designed as according to slope-stability design. At exposition slope, slope with angle 45o, two terrace and ground water level at - 2 M, high of slope 5 M and level off 5 M, Safety Factor = 2.094. Soil bearing capacity for square, circular & continuous foundations have medium-high activity show relationship that: Increasing of soil activity value cause decreasing of value of soil bearing capacity. Safety Factor of slope and soil bearing capacity is very supporting of environmental aspect in Jatinangor development area. Geological evaluation of development area is required to study both aspect (slope safety and bearing capacity).Environmental management is required before the rains arrive, because ground water rate will increasing at rainfall condition. It is required to manage negative impact. It is required to anticipate or eliminated its impact, or generating positive impact to be managed by improving it. Environmental monitoring is required to be instructed as anticipatory effort of damages or effect of negative impact.

Abstract

Based on Geological Map of Pamanukan Sheet (scale 1:100.00) and Karawang Sheet (1:100.000), at northern ward of Purwakarta Regency, there are some rocks formation, e.g. Jatiluhur Formation, Subang Formation, and some Aluvials. Swelling potential analysis is based on Seed Method (Seed, et al.,1962, from Hunt, 2007). Soil samples at Aluvial terrain shows swelling characteristics very high (usually at clay of Subang Formation), its activity value is 1.31, predicted monmorilonitic (Bowles, 1989). Soil sample at clay terrain of Subang Formation shows low swelling potential (its not characteristic of Subang Formation), activity value is 0.21 (is predicted Illitic based on Bowles, 1989), and soil sample at clay terrain of Jatiluhur Formation, shows medium swelling potential characteristic with activity value is 0.52.

Abstract

Jakarta, a very populated capital city of Indonesia, was built above alluvial deposit which is currently subsiding relative to sea level at a high rate. As a result Jakarta becomes more often to be flooded with water that delivered from other regions and also the sea level rises relative to land and shoreline move toward the ground are increasing feasibility of tidal flood to occur. Consolidation process of the ground acts as a cause to the land subsidence in Jakarta. The fact is water needs in Jakarta is high due to its high population. Therefore, large amount in withdrawal of groundwater occurs and causes the ground to settle. In order to decrease the rate of land subsidence, groundwater should be extracted in a proper, more effective and efficient way. Younger generation is advised to save water using a fresh approach which is easy to be understood and accepted. In the future, people in Jakarta will consider that saving water as a norm which brings great benefit to their environment, Jakarta.

Abstract

Physical development of the region will always be associated with infrastructure studies. Construction plans in Kertajati International Airport, will bring the study of the infrastructure related to public facilities, which supports the international airport in West Java. Including a study of infrastructures are the foundation for buildings, roads, bridges, buildings, dams, etc., also the slope which is the result of slope stability design. This study discusses the behavior of the activity of high plasticity clay (CH) toward safety factor of slope and soil bearing capacity. Safety factor of slope is represented by value of FS (Factor of Safety) with a specified slope angle, so the increasing soil activity (A) is known relationship with a decrease in the value of the slope safety factor (FS). Soil bearing capacity is represented by the value of qa (allowable soil bearing capacity) for square and circular foundation type, so that the relationship of soil bearing capacity is decreasing with increasing value of soil activity. The study is expected to be developed, to facilitate the safety factor is the estimated slope and soil bearing capacity estimated by examining the number of activity as an early indicator. The relationship between the allowable soil bearing capacity (qa) for shallow foundations (of a square type) with soil activity (Skempton, and Seed) shows the equation qa = 7.89890 A (-1.01759) a negative relationship with correlation coefficient R = - 0754, and qa = 8.81669 A (-0.83957) a negative relationship with correlation coefficient R = - 0722. The relationship between the allowable soil bearing capacity (qa) for shallow foundation (of a circular type) with soil activity (Skempton, and Seed) shows the equation qa = 7.80513 A (-1.06644) a negative relationship with correlation coefficient R = - 0780, and qa = 8.77028 A (-0.88473) a negative relationship with correlation coefficient R = - 0722, it indicates that bearing capacity land values decline with increasing soil activity. The relationship between the security factor (FS) with 15o slope angle A activity figures show the equation FS = 1.517 A -0.79 with R ² = 0.625; The relationship between the safety factor (FS) with 30o slope angle A activity figures show the equation FS = 1.721 A - 0.78 with R ² = 0.64. Handling of expansive soil can be through soil improvement. To planning the foundation and slope infrastructures, is required safe design in accordance with assessment of soil bearing capacity and Factor of Safety (FS) of slopes, in order to avoid design failure.
