Abstract

Setelah kebebasannya mantan narapidana akan menghadapi kesulitan untuk dapat kembali di masyarakat karena statusnya sebagai mantan narapidana. Stigma itu sendiri merupakan ciri negatif yang melekat pada diri seseorang yang diberikan oleh masyarakat. Stigma yang berkembang di masyarakat juga memunculkan perbedaan perlakuan atau diskriminasi yang dilakukan oleh masyarakat pada mantan narapidana. Oleh karena itu, mantan narapidana perlu untuk mengelola komunikasi agar dapat berinteraksi kembali dengan masyarakat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengelolaan komunikasi mantan narapidana dengan lingkungan masyarakat tempat tinggalnya dalam mengatasi stigma. Penelitian ini menggunakan landasan Teori Stigma Management Communication oleh Meisenbach. Pada penelitian ini menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data berupa wawancara mendalam yang melibatkan delapan orang mantan narapidana yang masa penahanannya selama kurang lebih satu tahun dalam penjara. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologis dan teknik analisis Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Hasil penelitian menunjukan jika setelah kebebasannya, mantan narapidana merasakan adanya stigma dan mengalami kesulitan akibat stigma yang melekat pada dirinya. Stigma yang dirasakan oleh informan membuat informan merasa rendah diri saat berinteraksi dengan masyarakat terutama yang dikenal dekat. Beberapa dari informan juga mengalami diskriminasi seperti pengacuhan atau sikap tidak peduli saat berinteraksi, kesulitan pencarian kerja, hingga perbedaan di lingkungan lembaga sosial. Dampak dari sikap pengacuhan yang diberikan masyarakat membuat informan hanya melakukan interaksi dengan masyarakat yang menunjukan respon positif saat diajak berinteraksi. Selama melakukan interaksi dengan masyarakat informan mengatur caranya dalam berkomunikasi dan yang memulai terlebih dahulu saat berinteraksi. Selain itu, tiga dari delapan informan memilih untuk menarik diri dari lingkungan bermasyarakat karena merasa rendah diri terhadap statusnya sebagai mantan narapidana. Seluruh informan juga sepakat menyembunyikan status mantan narapidana saat berinteraksi dengan orang lain yang tidak mengetahui perihal kondisinya. Dalam berkomunikasi dan berinteraksi mantan narapidana juga mengalami hambatan semantic seperti pengulangan kata-kata dan ragu-ragu saat berbicara, serta hambatan psikologis karena adanya perbedaan status sebagai mantan narapidana.

Abstract

Era perkembangan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi membuat kinerja humas di kalangan manapun harus dapat melaksanakan tugas dengan memanfaatkan internet sebagai wujud aktivitas humas secara online yang disebut dengan Cyber Public Relations. Keadaan ini menjadi suatu tantangan bagi humas pemerintah daerah dalam menjalankan tugas dan fungsi melalui media online. Salah satu jenis dalam Cyber Public Relationsyang ada di pemerintah daerah adalahberita. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui penerapan cyber public relations dalam penyampaian berita dan mengetahui ada atau tidaknya tanggapan dari publik dalam kolom komentar di kanal berita website pemerintah daerah. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini excellence in public relations theory dan Teori Effendy mengenai model komunikasi. Metode penelitian dilakukan secara deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan pendekatan analisis isi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara mengumpulkan artikel berita dalam website pemerintah daerah. Unit analisis yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah tujuan humas pemerintah dengan menggunakan teknik analisis tematik yang merujuk pada model jalur pengkodean menurut Johnny Saldana. Hasil penelitian pada penerapan cyber public relationsini telah menunjukkan hasil yang sesuai dengan tujuan humas pemerintah. Penyampain berita yang dilakukan oleh humas pemerintah daerah masuk dalam kriteria tujuan humas pemerintah, walaupun tidak secara keseluruhan kriteria tersebut ada di dalam berita pemerintah daerah. Setiap berita dari pemerintah daerah memiliki 3-6 kriteria tujuan humas pemerintah. Selain itu, aktivitas humas pemerintah daerah menunjukkan perilaku yang bersifat menyebarkan informasi tanpa ada tanggapan masyarakat. Karena dalam kanal berita website pemerintah daerah tidak terdapat kolom komentar sehingga model komunikasi yang digunakan bersifat satu arah.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyze the framing of the South China Sea conflict. This research focused on forty publications of four online media in Southeast Asia; The Jakarta Post, The Inquirer Philippine, The Star Online, and VietnamPlus as the representatives of the media on the coverage of the South China Sea dispute. The approach used in this study is a framing analysis, specifically with Guo’s method of the Transnational Comparative Framing Model. Basing on the theories of peace and war journalism, this study hypothesized that the four online media in Southeast Asia incline toward war journalism. This result of the framing analysis found that the media in Southeast Asia affirm the main assumption of the research, showing that the media in Southeast Asia opted for the war journalism in covering the news about the South China Sea conflict. There are four main indicators which represent the war journalism which include: elite-oriented, victory-oriented, propaganda-oriented, and partisan coverage. This study also showed that the media in Southeast Asia mostly cover the conflict through the lens of territorial dispute frame. This study affirmed the applicability of the theories and findings previous studies. From a media perspective, this study emphasized the need to take into account the importance of peace journalism practice during a conflict.

Abstract

Rokok merupakan benda populer untuk dikonsumsi masyarakat, terutama remaja yang mana jumlahnya kian meningkat hingga mencapai 19,4 persen. Di sisi lain, rokok bagi remaja memiliki dampak yang mematikan jika dibandingkan dampak perokok usia dewasa, yakni diantaranya seperti kerusakan jaringan otak, penggumpalan darah, penurunan daya tangkap, kesecamasan berlebih hingga depresi. Guna mendapatkan penyelesaian atas permasalahan tersebut, maka perlu untuk mengetahui faktor yang menjadi penyebab remaja merokok. Terdapat beberapa asumsi faktor yang menjadi penyebab remaja merokok, yakni diantaranya seperti peer pressure, keluarga yang merokok, sikap pada perilaku merokok, dan terpaan iklan rokok sehingga penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh peer pressure, keluarga yang merokok, sikap pada perilaku merokok, dan terpaan iklan rokok terhadap keinginan merokok pada remaja. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah planned behavior theory dengan asumsi bahwa seseorang akan memiliki keinginan untuk berperilaku sesuai dengan informasi yang diambil seseorang mengenai perilaku tersebut, baik secara langsung maupun tidak langsung. Kemudian adapun teori yang digunakan lainnya, yakni embodied motivated cognitive theory, yang mana menjelaskan bahwa ketika seseorang terpapar oleh iklan, seseorang akan mencoba memahami dan menanggapi pesan yang ditampilkan di dalam iklan sehingga seseorang kemudian memiliki keinginan untuk melakukan hal serupa yang ditunjukan di dalam iklan. Dalam menentukan sampel, penelitian ini nmenggunakan teknik non-probability sampling. Jumlah sampe yang diteliti sebanyak 100 orang dengan karakteristik pelajar SMA Negeri 1 Ungaran, baik laki-laki maupun perempuan, dan berdomisili di Kabupaten Semarang. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa pengaruh peer pressure, keluarga yang merokok, dan sikap pada perilaku merokok memiliki nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,023 yang berarti bahwa variabel peer pressure, keluarga yang merokok, dan sikap pada perilaku merokok memiliki berpengaruh terhadap keinginan merokok pada remaja. Selanjutnya pada variabel terpaan iklan rokok nilai signifikansi yang didapatkan sebesar 0,108 yang berarti tidak didapati pengaruh variabel terpaan iklan rokok terhadap keinginan merokok pada remaja.

Abstract

Internet technology become something that cannot be avoided in the current era. Unfortunately, the existence of the internet and technology also creates a new problem, namely cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is a problem that has not been completely resolved. UNICEF itself even states that the impact of cyberbullying greatly affects the mental, emotional, and physical aspects of individuals. This is something that cannot be eliminated directly. However, this can be minimized by raising awareness by various parties. This study used social penetration theory to explain each variable. On the other hand, this study also used a schema of relationships within the family to support the main theory. The sampling technique was purposive-sampling. The sample was 150 people with characteristics of people aged 16-25 years who had been victims of cyberbullying, lived in Semarang and actively used social media.. Tests in this study used multiple linear regression. The results showed that the influence of the intensity of parental communication on the level of openness in telling the cyberbullying experience was 26.6%. Meanwhile, the intensity of peer group support on the level of openness tells about the experience of cyberbullying by 5.7%. The intensity of parental communication and peer group support on the level of openness tells of the cyberbullying experience of 29.1%. with all the significance of the three variables below 0.01. This means, this study had an influence with different strengths on each variable.

Abstract

This research aims to elaborate the knowledge of people regarding Covid-19 and the characteristics of the Corona Virus in the later stage of the pandemic. The latest pandemic that had happened prior to pandemic Covid-19 with arguably similar scale was the Spanish Flu that happened in 1918, when the network of global connection still sparsely established. On the contrary, pandemic Covid-19 happened in globalized network society and in the era when information can be access easily and can be spread rapidly and massively. The overwhelming amount of information about Covid-19, both accurate and inaccurate information had flooded the public sphere and public conversation, event WHO coined the situation as “infodemic”. However, whether the vast amount of information has generated a well-informed public is need to be scrutinized further. Using the Covid-19 literacy scale develop by Naveed, et.al., in 20202, which consist of two dimensions; infection spread and symptoms; and infection prevention and treatment, this research investigates the knowledge or the literacy of Covid among adults in Indonesia. The result shows that the vast amout information can shape the knowledge of the respondent to be literate of the Covid-19. It indicates that respondents were able to take and retain accurate information regarding Covid-19. This research, however, does not say that inaccurate and false information would not cause harmful effect. The literacy endeavor must continue to be pursued to build literate society.

Abstract

Penyebaran informasi palsu tentang COVID-19 beredar luas di media sosial dan diidentifikasi menjadi ancaman baru bagi dunia. Beberapa temuan mengungkapkan bahwa kualitas kemampuan literasi digital pada generasi milenial di Indonesia masih rendah dan berkontribusi terhadap penyebaran informasi palsu. Hal ini kemudian dapat mendorong kerentanan generasi milenial dalam mempercayai informasi palsu khususnya tentang COVID-19. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara tingkat kompetensi literasi digital dan intensitas konsumsi media sosial terhadap tingkat kerentanan generasi milenial dalam mempercayai informasi palsu tentang COVID-19. Penelitian ini didasarkan pada analisis data kuantitatif yang dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan non-probabilty sampling dengan teknik purposive sampling. Jumlah sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah 300 orang dewasa, berusia 22 – 44 tahun, berdomisili di Indonesia yang aktif menggunakan media sosial, dan pernah mengkonsumsi informasi COVID-19. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan antara kompetensi literasi digital dan tingkat kerentanan generasi milenial dalam mempercayai informasi bohong tentang COVID-19. Selanjutnya, terdapat hubungan antara intensitas konsumsi media sosial dan tingkat kerentanan generasi milenial dalam mempercayai informasi bohong tentang COVID-19. Studi ini juga menegaskan bahwa terdapat hubungan antara kompetensi literasi digital dan intensitas konsumsi media sosial dengan tingkat kerentanan generasi milenial dalam mempercayai informasi palsu tentang COVID-19.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic phenomenon not only concerns the issues of a health crisis, but it has also resulted in a cascade of information, including facts and hoaxes, that is difficult to distinguish from one another and is easily shared through digital networks, one of which is social media. This situation, which is also known as information disorder, causes issues with the reception, processing, and interpretation of information that may vary from person to person. This study intends to acquire a thorough understanding of the subjective communication experiences of people in the adult age group when coping with the deluge of information concerning Covid-19 on social media. This research is qualitative research that uses an interpretive paradigm with an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) approach. The Elaboration Likelihood Model served as the study’s theoretical foundation. This research uses the concept of an echo chamber, filter bubble, and confirmation bias to show the characteristics of information about Covid-19 on social media due to the algorithm operating system. In-depth interviews with both male and female participants who met the age requirement of over 35 years old were employed as the method of data collection in this study, along with the usage of social media to address participants' information demands regarding Covid-19. The findings of this research indicate that individual interpretation and the type of response that is conveyed through behaviours and/or decision-making are impacted by subjective experience in handling various forms of information disorder concerning Covid-19 on social media. Some of the findings that reflect the communication relationship among participants in interpreting the disorder of information about Covid-19 on social media include (i) individuals in the adult age group consider WhatsApp as the main contributor to the conflicting information regarding Covid-19 on social media. (ii) People in the adult age group find it difficult to sort through the deluge of information regarding Covid-19 because they are unaware of the social media algorithm system. (iii) Possession of prior knowledge, be it false or true, related to Covid-19 makes information processing carried out by individuals in the adult age group biased. (iv) The lack of personal motivation to seek the correct information affects how much individuals in the adult age group can believe a certain piece of information during the disorder of information regarding Covid-19. (v) The disorder of information regarding Covid-19 has made individuals in the adult age group experience pandemic fatigue.

Abstract

The emergence of social media has brought many changes in people's lives. The increasing use of social media has also increased the emergence of the influencer phenomenon, especially in Indonesia. Micro influencers are the lowest influencer category on social media in terms of the number of followers that range from 1,000 to 15,000 followers. However, despite having the lowest follower count of any other category and not having their former popularity, micro influencers are able to attract an audience to follow them on Instagram. This study aims to understand in depth the motivations of followers to follow certain micro influencers, what forms can be intertwined between the two, as well as the benefits gained by followers in following these micro influencers. This research is a phenomenological research with an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) approach. The data collection technique was carried out using in-depth interview techniques with twelve (12) informants from three (3) different micro influencer categories, with the criteria of actively interacting on social media with the micro influencers they follow. The results of this study found that there were four follower motivations in following micro influencers on social media. First, there is positive emotional arousal in the form of feeling happy, excited, entertained, excited, and motivated. Second, there is physical attractiveness such as the physical appearance of micro influencers, similarities in hobbies, tastes or areas of residence, and the ability of micro influencers to produce content and manage their social media. Third, there is the Bandwagon Effect, where followers tend to follow micro influencers because they follow what their friends are doing. Fourth, followers are motivated to follow micro influencers on social media because they set micro influencers as role models. Meanwhile, the interactions that exist between followers and the micro influencers they follow are parasocial interactions, because closeness is only felt by the followers. By following micro influencers, followers can get benefits in the form of fulfilling their needs for information and entertainment

Abstract

Technological developments encourage changes in the behavior of people's transactions in Indonesia. Currently, people are starting to switch to non-cash transactions. The use of e-wallets has now become a new phenomenon in the world of finance and technology. The emergence of the phenomenon of using e-wallets has encouraged various digital wallet companies in Indonesia. As a result of this competition, each e-wallet company has improved the performance of its features and services as well as increased the dissemination of information in various mass media such as television, radio, online news and Instagram social media. Even so, not all people use e-wallets to make payment transactions. The study aims to determine the effect of the intensity of e-wallet information consumption, the intensity of e-wom e-wallet communication, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use on interest in using e-wallet applications. This study uses the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and simple linear regression statistical tests. The sample in the study was 100 respondents aged 20-60 years who are residents of the city of Semarang. The results of the study prove that in H1 there is an influence between the intensity of consumption of e-wallet information on perceived usefulness. Then, in H2 there is an influence between the intensity of e-wom e-wallet communication on perceived usefulness. In H4 there is an influence between the intensity of e-wom e-wallet communication on perceived ease of use. Then, in H5 there is an influence between perceived usefulness on interest in using e-wallet applications, and in H6 there is an influence between perceived ease of use and interest in using e-wallet applications. Meanwhile, in H3 it shows that there is no influence between the intensity of consumption of e-wallet information on perceived ease of use, which means that the perceived ease of use of individuals does not grow from the intensity of consumption of e-wallet information, instead the intensity of e-wom e-wallet communication contributes to the growth perceived ease of use.
