Abstract

Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyze how classroom management and learning process is carried out to achieve the quality of learning and have cognitive abilities, attitudes, character, behavior, emotions, interests, and values of individuals in realizing the goals of National Education by doing concrete movements in improving the quality of education through the quality of learning. This study used qualitative methods by collecting data through several sources such as basic data on education (Dapodik), with techniques for collecting and testing the credibility of data and documentation. The research sample was the 2021 education report card which shows the low quality of learning. The research was conducted using interview and document analysis techniques. The results found that there is a need for training in classroom management for junior high school-level teachers. In light of the results, the Education Authorities of Mataram City need to increase teacher competency in classroom management and other support according to the indicators in the education report card. It is suggested that Education Authorities make policies related to learning quality improvement by providing training or workshops for teachers.

Abstract

Inductive reasoning has an important role in mathematics learning. It includes making generalizations and analogical reasoning. While a generalization explains the relationship between several concepts applied in more general situations, analogical reasoning compares two things. This research is qualitative and descriptive. It reviews and describes the mathematical reasoning abilities of junior high school students based on Bruner's learning theory. It was conducted at one of the junior high schools in Pekanbaru in the eighth grade in the 2022/2023 academic year, involving 70 students. The students were divided into three categories of prior mathematical knowledge: low, medium, and high. The instruments used to obtain data on how mathematical reasoning abilities relate to Bruner's learning theory in this study were (1) a test of mathematical reasoning abilities and 2) an interview guide. The results show that the average mathematical reasoning abilities of the eighth graders in this study were very high for the material on arithmetic sequences and series and low for the material on geometric sequences and series. However, the eight grade students' average generalizing and analogical reasoning abilities were quite good for both materials.

Abstract

STEM, an educational model, equips gifted students with essential skills to foster creative problem-solving. The aim of this study was to capture the STEM-related landscape in high schools. The method used is bibliometric analysis. The data retrieved comes from the database Scopus. The results show that STEM-related publications in high schools continue to increase every year, especially from 2016 to 2021. Publications in 2011 have cited more than 160 citations, this number is more than any other year. Indonesia is the most influential country in this field. The focus of research related to this field is 1) outcomes and motivation; 2) critical thinking and 21st century; 3) problems and development. The new theme for this field is critical thinking, 21st century, project-based learning (PjBL), covid and perception. Keywords that become new themes such as critical thinking not yet connected directly with keywords with other new themes such as perception. Keywords that were the primary focus, such as motivation, outcomes, and STEM in high schools, did not directly align with the emerging theme of Covid. This novelty offers valuable insights for future research.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning model in improving students' problem solving abilities. This is a quasi-experimental study using the Nonequivalent Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. Students in seventh grade at SMP Negeri 32 Pekanbaru comprised the whole study population. In this research, the sample comprised two classes: VII3 as the experimental class and VII1 as the control class. This study utilizes the beginning mathematical ability test (KAM) and the mathematical problem-solving ability test as its instruments. The class of the sample was determined using the KAM test findings. The data were evaluated using the similarity test of two independent sample t-tests, which was preceded by tests for normality and homogeneity of variance. Students who participated in Problem-Based Learning had greater growth in their ability to solve mathematical problems than students who participated in conventional learning.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to identify research developments related to Discovery Learning in mathematics learning. This research uses a bibliometric analysis method by collecting data from the Scopus database. The data is then saved in two formats, namely CSV and RIS. Data in CSV format was analyzed using VOSviewer, while data in RIS format was analyzed using Harzing's Publish or Perish software. This research refers to 72 research sources regarding discovery learning in mathematics learning from 1968 to 2023. The research results show that the number of publications related to discovery learning in mathematics learning continues to increase every year. Publications in 2012 had more than 130 citations, this number exceeds publications in other years. The majority of these publications were found in Q2 category journals, with a total of 28 publications. The focus of this research covers three main areas: 1) learning outcomes, learning environments, and the role of universities; 2) technology and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics); 3) problems in teaching mathematics. New themes that emerge in research regarding discovery learning in mathematics learning include STEM, communication, self-confidence, learning activities, creativity, critical thinking, and efficacy. However, the term "Discovery Learning" is not yet directly connected to new concepts such as critical thinking and learning methods. This research provides in-depth insight into the development of Discovery Learning in the context of mathematics learning, as well as a better understanding of the dominant research focus and current trends in this field.
