Abstract

Pesantren is Islamic institution of formal education first and oldest in Indonesia, which still exists and continues to grow today in terms of both quantity and quality. Pesantren is typical of Indonesian Islamic formal educational institution, because in the Islamic world cannot be found anywhere other than the Indonesian educational institution called the pesantren or Islamic boarding schools. However, there are two opinions that develop on the origin of boarding, the first opinion states that the origin of the word and the education system is derived from the Hindu-Buddhist, the second opinion states that although it is recognized that the term boarding is not at all found in the terminology of Islam (Arabic), however, the model or the system of education comes from Islam itself. In institutional, pesantren growth since before independence until today many experienced tides. In the Dutch colonial era to the independence of many boarding schools suffered a setback due to government policies that are less profitable existence as an educational institution of Islamic boarding schools. Today, boarding back up to adjuste the system and the curriculum with the development of times, science and technology, hence boarding is quite appealing to some Muslim communities not only from within the country, but also abroad.

Abstract

This research was descriptive qualitative study with the type of field research. 20 participants were selected in this research. Data collection used observation, inteviews and documentation. Interview was conducted by the 20 teachers. Data analysis used interactive model by Miles and Huberman. There were three steps in this model, namely data reduction, data display and conclusion/verification. The result showed that the different needs and characteristics of children required the use of appropriate learning media in the implementation of Islamic religious education, namely adaptive learning media that adjusted to the needs and characteristics of children with autism. Before determining the learning media, an assessment was first carried out hence it makes it easier for the teacher to determine the learning media that suits the needs and caracteristics of the children. In using adaptive media, it was focused on self care practice, receptive language skills and expressive language using the media in the form of hijaiyah letter cards, short chorded surah word card and pictures. Abstract

In today’s increasingly interconnected world, promoting multicultural awareness has become essential, especially in educational settings. Language education offers a unique platform to foster this awareness, as language and culture are deeply intertwined. However, many language programs focus primarily on linguistic skills, overlooking the cultural dimensions that help students appreciate and navigate cultural diversity. This research aims to examine the role of language education in enhancing students’ understanding of multiculturalism, specifically through curricula that incorporate cultural perspectives and foster intercultural competence. A mixed-methods approach was used, combining surveys and interviews with 200 language learners and 50 educators across various educational institutions. Quantitative data from the surveys measured participants' perceptions of multicultural awareness, while qualitative data from the interviews provided deeper insights into how language education influences students' cultural understanding. Both methods were essential to capturing the complex relationship between language learning and multicultural awareness. The findings indicate that students exposed to culturally enriched language curricula showed a higher level of interest in cultural topics and a greater openness toward diverse perspectives. Educators observed that students became more engaged when cultural content was integrated into lessons, improving their overall language proficiency and intercultural skills.

Abstract

Indonesia, a nation rich in ethnic, religious, cultural, and tribal diversity, faces both challenges and opportunities in building national integration. Islamic Religious Education (IRE) plays a vital role in developing multicultural awareness to shape a generation that values differences within the framework of Islamic values of grace for the universe (rahmatan lil'alamin). This research aims to identify the IRE learning materials that integrate multicultural education values in Grade VIII at SMPN 8 Palangka Raya and to analyze the multicultural values contained within those materials. This study employs a qualitative method with data collection techniques using interviews and analyzed using an interactive analysis model. The results of the study indicate that IRE learning at SMPN 8 Palangka Raya integrates multicultural values such as tolerance, justice, and brotherhood to shape students' character. Through materials and methods such as group discussions and stories of the prophets, students are taught to appreciate differences, uphold social justice, and live harmoniously in a pluralistic society. The values of multicultural education taught in the IRE learning materials at SMPN 8 Palangka Raya are highly relevant for building students' character in a diverse society. Values such as tolerance, democracy, religious moderation, egalitarianism, and love for the homeland are integrated into learning to form an inclusive attitude and respect for differences.
