Abstract

Abstract

Objective: to explore the effectiveness of mindfulness-based therapy in reducing depressive symptoms among adolescents through a literature review. Methods: This article used a descriptive qualitative design with a literature review method, analyzing 12 scientific articles published between 2018 and 2023 that met inclusion criteria. Data were collected from EBSCO, ProQuest, PubMed, and Google Scholar database and analyzed using a thematic approach. Results: From a total of 84 articles found in the initial search, a screening process was carried out based on titles, abstracts, and the availability of full text. After going through the selection process, 30 articles were studied in depth, and a total of 12 articles met all the inclusion criteria for adolescents aged 10-19 years as the main participants and were published within the period 2018-2023. Articles that do not meet the criteria, such as editorials, opinions, non-scientific reviews, and studies that do not explicitly list MBT outcomes or interventions, are excluded from the final analysis. The results of the synthesis show that Mindfulness-Based Therapy (MBT) consistently has a positive impact in reducing symptoms of depression in adolescents Conclusion: MBT is a promising and adaptive intervention for holistically addressing adolescent depression. Integrating MBT into school programs and community-based counseling is recommended as a preventive and promotive mental health strategy.

Abstract

Psychoeducation is an educational method given to a group of teenagers with the aim of providing knowledge about the importance of self-compassion to reduce dating behavior in teenagers, especially junior high school students. Self-compassion appears to be a more positive variable in efforts to develop teenagers' self-concept. Through self-compassion, teenagers understand that they need to be kind to themselves (self-kindness) and think that the situation they are currently experiencing can also be experienced by other people (common humanity) and get full recognition when carrying out an action (mindfulness). The research used a quantitative approach with a sample of 108 students. Quantitative data was obtained by giving a pre-test and post-test, then data processing was carried out using the T Test. The results showed that there were significant changes between the dating behavior of students before and after being given self-compassion understanding psychoeducation where self-compassion psychoeducation had an effect on reducing dating behavior in students

Abstract

Recently, there has been growing interest in the study of community responses to disasters in Indonesia at macro and meso-levels analysis while little has been paid attention to this study at the micro one or individual level. To fill the literature gap, this article aims to describe prosocial behaviors performed by volunteers involved in addressing the Semeru volcano eruption victims in Lumajang Indonesia occurred in 2021. It was a result of descriptive quantitative research involving 202 participants who identified themselves as Muhammadiyah’s volunteers involved in the humanitarian activities in addressing the natural disaster. The data collection of pro-sociality utilized a prosocial behaviors scale including five aspects: honesty, helping, cooperating, caring, and donating. The validity test of the items used corrected item-total correlation that resulted in 34 valid items, and it had a good reliability based on Cronbach’s coefficient alpha test which was 0,953. The result shows that the participants had predominantly at the moderate level of prosocial behaviors which was four-fifths of the participants. Only a small proportion placed at the high pro-sociality, likewise those who were at the low level meaning these two categories were not significant. This finding is expected to enrich literature related to the role of civil society in responding to disasters, especially at the individual level. However, some relevant topics such as relating prosocial acts to other variables need to get attention for future research to result in comprehensive empirical evidence on this issue.

Abstract

Objective: This study explores the relationship between the need for affiliation, loneliness, and Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) among adolescents, a group particularly vulnerable to social anxiety due to their intensive use of social media. Method: Utilizing a quantitative approach, the research involved 349 adolescents selected through accidental sampling from a population of 1,996,825 in Sidoarjo. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with the JASP version 17 software to assess the predictive roles of the need for affiliation and loneliness on FOMO. Results: The findings revealed a significant relationship between both the need for affiliation and loneliness with FOMO, with a p-value of 0.001, indicating that adolescents experiencing stronger desires for social connection and higher levels of loneliness are more likely to exhibit FOMO. Novelty: This study contributes to the limited body of research on FOMO in Indonesian adolescents by integrating psychosocial variables such as affiliation needs and loneliness, emphasizing the critical need for early interventions to manage digital-era social anxieties and promote healthier online engagement.

Method: Employing a quantitative correlational design, data were collected from users through standardized psychological scales measuring loneliness, interpersonal trust, and affiliation needs. Results: The analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between loneliness and affiliation needs, suggesting that individuals experiencing higher levels of loneliness are more driven to establish social connections. Interpersonal trust was also found to be positively related to affiliation needs, although the strength of this relationship was weaker compared to loneliness. Novelty: This study offers a contemporary perspective by contextualizing the psychological dynamics of loneliness and trust within the digital environment of online dating, specifically the Bumble app. The findings contribute to the growing body of literature on digital-era social behavior and highlight the need for targeted interventions to enhance psychological well-being through the facilitation of meaningful online social interactions.
