Abstract

Introduction: The global economy is affected by Indonesian migrant workers' destinations in Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Poor housing and cleanliness make it hard for Indonesian workers, especially cleaning service workers, to stay healthy. Employees in the cleaning service business may not understand how to manage their health or navigate the healthcare system due to health literacy issues. Indonesian workers in Malaysia are assessed for workplace health literacy and empowerment. Addressing these issues and improving health literacy can enhance public health, eliminate health inequities, and empower people to make health decisions. Methods: The cross-sectional accidental sampling study involves 23 Indonesian workers from a prominent Malaysian university. All Indonesian workers were given a full explanation of the 15-question healthy living questionnaire. Results: 47.9% of migrant workers had sufficient knowledge, 39.1% had poor knowledge, and 13% had good knowledge. Conclusion: Poor personal hygiene affects Indonesian workers in Malaysia, focusing on workplace health knowledge and empowerment. It stresses health literacy, especially for the poor. To improve public health, reduce health inequities, and empower people to make health decisions, these concerns and health literacy initiatives are crucial.

Abstract

Objective: Diabetes mellitus is an increasing global health problem, with serious complications that can occur if not properly managed. One widely researched approach is the use of resistance training as a method to control blood sugar levels. Many studies have shown the potential benefits of resistance training, but there are variations in the duration and frequency used. Therefore, this study aims to identify the most effective duration and frequency in such exercise programs Methods: This study used a Systematic Literature Review approach by collecting and analyzing scientific articles from the Elsevier database, Google Scholar, and PubMed using the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analysis) method which has gone through four stages, namely identification, screening, eligibility and accepted results. The search resulted in 10 articles that met the inclusion criteria and will be further analyzed for the effectiveness of resistance training in healing diabetes mellitus Results: The results of this review show that resistance training has a significant positive effect in lowering blood sugar levels. Several studies showed a decrease in fasting blood sugar and HbA1c levels after a structured resistance exercise program. Conclusion: These findings support the integration of resistance training programs in diabetes management and make an important contribution to the development of future clinical guidelines.

Abstract

In Indonesia, stunting remains a persistent public health problem. The purpose of this study was to systematically examine theunderlying causes of stunting. A review of previous studies onfactors influencing stunting in Indonesia was the methodologyused. The PRISMA diagram was used in the study selectionprocess to eliminate relevant studies. 16 studies out of 500 studieswere found to meet the requirements and were examined in moredetail. The study findings indicate that there are three main causesof stunting: (1) dietary and nutritional variables; (2) maternal andchild health factors; and (3) environmental and socioeconomic factors. Stunting is largely caused by inadequate food intake during first 1,000 days of life. The high rate of stunting in Indonesia is also influenced by the level of parental education, access to health facilities and sanitation, and maternal health conditions during pregnancy. These results are consistent with previous studies highlightthe importance a multifaceted approach in addressing stunting. Therefore, to reduce stunting rates in Indonesia, more coordinated policies are needed to improve maternal and child health care, increase access to nutrition, and empower the local economy

Abstract

Anemia is a global health problem that affects the physical fitness, cognitive function, and academic performance of adolescents. In Indonesia, the prevalence of anemia in adolescents is still relatively high. One of the factors contributing to this condition is the lack of physical activity that could potentially support the increase of hemoglobin levels. This study aims to observe if there is a significant effect of morning walking activity on the hemoglobin levels of adolescents with anemia at Al-Amanah Cileunyi Junior High School. This study used quantitative methods with a quasi-experimental approach and a one-group pre-test and post-test design. A sample of 30 people was selected using a purposive sampling technique from a population of 57 students in class VIII based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Interventions in the form of morning walking activities were held twice a week for three weeks. Measurement of hemoglobin levels was collected before and after the intervention using the EasyTouch GCHb digital device. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and the Mann-Whitney U test. There was a significant increase in hemoglobin levels after the intervention (P < 0.05), and there was a significant difference between male and female. Morning walking has a positive effect on increasing the hemoglobin level of adolescents with anemia. It is recommended that this activity be implemented as a promotive and preventive strategy in the school environment.

Abstract

Body weight is a crucial aspect in martial arts sports, as it is directly related to determining the competition class that an athlete will participate in. To achieve their ideal target weight required for their respective classes, each athlete has their own perception of the body weight status they desire. This perception is often closely linked to their body image or view of their current physical form. This research was conducted with the aim of comprehensively describing nutritional perceptions, body image profiles, and the relationship between nutritional perceptions and body image among martial arts athletes at the West Java Student Sports Education and Training Center (PPLP). This research involved 45 martial arts athletes from the West Java PPLP institution, comprising 25 males and 20 females. The research design used was a cross-sectional survey with total sampling technique. Nutritional perception and body image assessments were conducted using the Nutritional Perception Screening Questionnaire (NPSQ9) and Figure Rating Scale (FRS) instruments. The findings showed that on average, the athletes' nutritional perceptions were in the good category. However, the obtained body image profile yielded negative results, meaning that their current body shape did not match the desired body shape of the athletes. The bivariate correlation analysis revealed no significant relationship between nutritional perceptions and body image among martial arts athletes at the West Java PPLP, with a significance value of 0.164 (p>0.05). Although the body image profiles of males were negative and females positive, there was no difference in perception between them. This was because the athletes were more focused on meeting the requirements for their competition class rather than attaining their desired body image.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia due to insulin deficiency or insulin resistance. The global prevalence of diabetes mellitus continues to increase, posing a significant health and economic burden to society. Conventional pharmacological treatments that are currently available often cause unwanted side effects, so alternative therapies that are safer and more effective are needed. This study aims to collect and analyze data related to the effectiveness of flower extract as an antidiabetic agent in reducing blood glucose levels and preventing complications associated with diabetes. The potential of Clitoria ternatea as an antidiabetic agent was explored through a systematic literature review. Article searches were conducted using scientific databases such as Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and Mendeley with the keywords "Clitoria ternatea AND diabetes AND blood glucose". The inclusion criteria applied included experimental studies conducted on diabetic samples, interventions with bay flower extract administration, and publications within the last 5 years (2021-2025). From a total of 1,858 articles identified, by applying the PRISMA-ScR method, eight articles were obtained that met the inclusion criteria. The results of the analysis showed that flower extract was effective in reducing blood glucose levels in both diabetes-induced experimental animals and diabetic patients. This antidiabetic effect is thought to be due to the flavonoids and other bioactive compounds in butterfly pea flower that act as α-amylase enzyme inhibitors, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatories. These findings indicate the potential of Clitoria ternatea as a promising therapeutic alternative in the management of diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Physical activity plays a major role in enhancing children’s physical and cognitive development. Jogging, as a simple form of aerobic exercise, is believed to improve concentration, attention, and executive function, which greatly influence the learning abilities of elementary school students. This study aimed to determine the effect of jogging on cognitive function among elementary school students. The research employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. A total of 68 students from SDN Sukasirna 03, Bogor Regency, participated as subjects and underwent a jogging intervention three times per week for four weeks, with each session lasting 30 minutes. Cognitive function was measured using the Grid Concentration Exercise Test (GCET) and the Stroop Color and Word Test (SCWT). Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed a significant improvement in cognitive function after the jogging intervention (GCET: Z = –7.162, p < 0.001; SCWT: Z = –4.067, p < 0.001). These findings indicate that jogging effectively enhances concentration, attention, and executive function in elementary school students. Physiologically, aerobic exercise such as jogging improves cerebral blood circulation and stimulates the release of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which supports synaptic plasticity, working memory, and cognitive flexibility. Therefore, regular jogging is recommended as a simple and effective strategy to support children’s cognitive development and academic performance.

Abstract

Nursing students are a productive population that often experiences sleep disturbances triggered by academic pressure, social demands, and emotional stress. When left unmanaged, sleep problems can impair concentration, academic achievement, and overall mental well-being. Pandan leaves contain various bioactive constituents, including flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, and 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline, which may provide calming and sedative effects that support better sleep. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of pandan leaf decoction in improving sleep quality among nursing students. A pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was used with 30 students from the Indonesian University of Education, selected via quota sampling. Sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Prior to the intervention, 83.3% of participants exhibited poor sleep quality with a mean PSQI score of 7.23. After consuming the pandan leaf decoction for 14 days, 73.3% of participants shifted into the good sleep category, yielding a reduced mean posttest score of 4.73. A paired sample t-test indicated a significant improvement in sleep quality (p=0.000; p<0.05). These findings show that pandan leaf decoction can help improve sleep quality among nursing students. As a safe and natural herbal option, it may be recommended as a complementary strategy to support holistic nursing care for managing sleep disturbances.
