Abstract

This research explores the depiction of hegemony in four literary works: The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, Girl of Kosovo by Alice Mead, and The Thief of Baghdad by Alexander Romanoff. Through Antonio Gramsci's theory of hegemony, this research analyzes the impact of political, ethnic and patriarchal power on individuals and society. In The Kite Runner, ethnic hierarchy in Afghanistan is reflected through Pashtun-Hazara relations. A Thousand Splendid Suns reveals the oppression of patriarchy and the Taliban regime's rule over women. In contrast, Girl of Kosovo depicts the trauma of war through political-military domination amidst ethnic conflict in the Balkans. The Thief of Baghdad presents a fantasy narrative of resistance to the tyranny of the authorities through symbolism and class tensions. Although set in different contexts, these four works demonstrate the universal theme of struggle against hegemonic power and the role of literature in articulating both trauma and hope. The analysis uses a qualitative approach by examining quotations, symbolism, dialogue, and characterization to identify forms of hegemony. As a result, literature becomes a reflective medium that highlights the multidimensional impact of hegemony in history and culture. This research demonstrates the relevance of Gramsci's theory in understanding complex global socio-political dynamics.

Abstract

Legumes play an important role in the food diversification programs in Indonesia. The Bambara bean has a high enough nutritionalvalue and is thus a promising food source for increased production. Bambara beans also have the advantage of being able to grow well on dry land. The activity of assembling superior varieties of Bambara peanut has been carried out since 2012, namely through the selection of local cultivars from various Bambara peanut planting centers, including from Madura. The yield test is the final stage in the assembly of varieties and lines that pass all stages of the test, which will later be submitted for release as new superior varieties. This study aims to test the yield potential of selected lines of Bambara peanut planted during the dry season in Bangkalan, Madura.  This study used a randomgroup design (RAK) with 12 genotypes of Bambara beans and repeated 3 times. The results showed that G12 (CKB-1 UP) is a genome that bears the highest production production among 11 other genotypes with a productivity of 2.28 tons/ha of pods and 109 days after planting (DAT). The number of pods has a high heritability value, so that it can be used as a reference in making a selection. The results of the correlation test showed that the vegetative character had an effect on the yield character.

Abstract

This study discusses Sundanese grammatical interference from bilingual students at Nurul Wafa Islamic Boarding School. This school applies English as a second language used in daily activities. However, in the use of English language by students, many English sentences are influenced by their mother tongue, Sundanese. This is what then causes language interference, and mostly occurs in the grammatical aspect which includes structural and morphological elements. The purpose of this study is to determine the dominant type of grammatical interference in students’ english sentences at Nurul Wafa Islamic Boarding School. This research used descriptive qualitative method, and as for the data analysis, the researcher uses Weinreich's theory regarding the types of grammatical interference. The writer also made observations for data collection methods. As the result, the findings of this study indicated that there are two types of grammatical interference which are equally dominant in the 15 data analysis from the sentences that mixed with Sundaese particle (rarangkén and kecap pangateb) and from sentences that contain errors and interference in the use of Subject-Verb agreement, passive voice and  tenses; misplaced structures or word orders pattern, In the two types of sentences, each found 11 types of sentences analyzed. In conclusion, the types of "Transfer of morpheme" and "Application of grammatical elements" are both dominant in this study. Keywords:  Grammatical, Interference, Language, Sundanese

Abstract

Post-gold mining lands are severely degraded ecosystems requiring intensive restoration to recover their agricultural productivity and ecological functions. One promising approach to enhance soil biological, chemical, and physical properties is the application of biochar combined with mycotrichocompost. This study aims to evaluate the effects of biochar and mycotrichocompost on soil nutrient availability (N, P, K) and on the growth and yield of maize cultivated on post-gold mining soil.  The study used a factorial randomized block design: level 1 giving  Biochar (0 tons/ha, 4 tons/ha, 8 tons/ha, 12 tons/ha), and level 2 fertilizer application mycotrichocompost at different doses (0 tons/ha, 5 tons/ha, 10 tons/ha), resulting in 12 treatment combinations resulting in total 36 experimental units. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by Tukey's Honest Significant Difference (HSD) test at α = 0.05 using minitab 19. The addition of biochar and mycotrichocompost to former gold mining soil increased crop yields (9.93 tons/ha), plant growth (e.g., plant height: 152.3 cm and leaf length: 80.33 cm), physiological characteristics (e.g., chlorophyll a: 0.34 mg per gram of fresh leaf weight, chlorophyll b: 0.24 mg per gram of fresh leaf weight), and soil nutrient content (N: 0.14%, P: 271 ppm, and K: 1.87 ppm). In general, treatment A3B2 with a dose of 12 tons/ha of biochar plus 10 tons/ha of mycotrichocompost is the optimal combination.
