Abstract

In today's digital era, the tendency of addiction to technology, social media, and certain substances is increasing, which has the potential to harm the well-being of students. This study aims to identify the level of addictive behavior tendencies in students at Medan city, focusing on two main factors: individual predisposition and specific areas of addiction. Through a descriptive quantitative approach, data were collected from 491 students using a questionnaire that measured addictive tendencies based on various variables, including learning patterns, emotional regulation, impulsivity, and addictive behaviors related to technology, drugs, gambling, and pornography. The results showed that Internet & Technology was the domain with the highest addiction tendencies (M = 17.44), followed by emotional regulation (M = 15.86). Although addiction to Cigarettes, Alcohol, and Drugs showed the lowest mean value (M = 9.53), the high kurtosis value indicates the presence of a group of students with very high addiction. On the other hand, psychological factors such as Impulsivity and low Executive Function contribute to impulsive decision-making that exacerbates addictive behavior. This study recommends the development of more holistic prevention and intervention programs, including enhanced guidance and counseling services and effective coping skills training, to help college students overcome addictive behaviors and improve their psychological well-being.

Abstract

This research seeks to study the patterns of healthy lifestyles and habits of gadget usage among boarding house students in Medan, while also exploring the connection between these aspects. The rising trend of gadget usage among college students residing in boarding houses has led to modifications in their daily routines, particularly in terms of eating practices, sleep cycles, and levels of physical activity. The methodology used in this study is descriptive quantitative, where data was gathered through questionnaires aimed at students aged 18-25 years in boarding houses. Subsequently, the collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics to classify healthy lifestyle patterns along with the frequency of gadget usage. The outcomes reveal that a large proportion of boarding students exhibit less than optimal healthy lifestyle patterns, which can be observed through irregular eating habits, inadequate sleep, and minimal physical activity. Conversely, the average gadget usage among participants is notably high, exceeding 5 hours daily, primarily for social media engagement and entertainment. Further analysis indicates a negative correlation between the intensity of gadget usage and the manifestation of healthy lifestyle habits, illustrating that increased gadget use is linked to decreased sleep quality and lower physical activity. In summary, this study demonstrates that regular engagement with gadgets impacts the healthy lifestyle choices of students living in boarding houses in Medan. Thus, enhancing health literacy and managing gadget usage time effectively is crucial for fostering a more balanced lifestyle among these students.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the level of understanding among Generation Z in using social media wisely and safely, particularly in relation to digital ethics, account security, information verification skills, and positive social media engagement. The research employed a descriptive quantitative method using a Likert-scale questionnaire consisting of 20 statements distributed online to 51 respondents. The data were analyzed using frequency percentages to identify response tendencies for each indicator. The findings show that respondents demonstrate a high level of understanding, especially in polite communication, careful information sharing, awareness of digital risks, and the ability to maintain privacy and account security. However, several aspects remain weak, including limiting social media usage time and the habit of reporting negative content. These results indicate that Generation Z possesses good digital literacy, yet the application of healthy digital behavior is not fully optimal. Therefore, more practical and continuous digital literacy education is needed to ensure that the understanding gained can be consistently applied in daily digital activities.
