Abstract

Background: Modern libraries are evolving into multidimensional activity centers, focusing not only on providing information but also on comfort and social interaction. Younger generations such as Gen Z and Millennials view libraries as social spaces that blend academic activities with relaxation. One innovation introduced is the presence of cafés, which are part of the "third place" concept—a space outside the home and campus for informal socializing.Purpose: This study aims to determine the influence of café presence on increased visits and user satisfaction, assess the extent to which the third place concept supports social and academic needs, identify the main elements of attraction, and compare perceptions among students. Methods: This study employs a quantitative approach by distributing an online questionnaire to students of Padjadjaran University as respondents. Data were collected in nominal and ordinal forms through open-ended questions, closed-ended questions, and Likert scales. The study was conducted over ten days in the environment of the Kandaga Library at Padjadjaran University. Results: The café significantly increased library visits and satisfaction, with users appreciating its role in supporting both academic work and social interaction. Conclusions: The presence of a café can enhance the appeal and frequency of visits to the library. The café is not only a place to relax but also an informal collaboration space that supports contemporary learning styles.

Abstract

Abstract

University libraries play a crucial role in supporting students' academic activities, particularly through their operating hours policies. This study aims to analyze the operating hours policies of Padjadjaran University Library in meeting student needs. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with librarians and students, direct observation, and documentation studies related to service policies. The results indicate that the operating hours policy is divided into regular services and evening services, focusing on the BNI Co Working Space. Despite the relatively limited number of users, the evening service serves as an important alternative study space. Service utilization is influenced by convenience, internet network stability, cost efficiency, and limited study space in student dormitories. During midterm and final exams, students proposed extending service hours, although 24-hour service was deemed unfeasible. As an alternative, implementing a shift-based work system was considered a more realistic way to extend services. These findings suggest that the operating hours policy needs to be understood as an adaptive, flexible, and student-oriented library service strategy.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between information seeking behavior and the information needs of Visual Communication Design (VCD) students through the Pinterest application. VCD students rely on visual information as a source of inspiration and reference in their creative process. The research employed a quantitative method with a correlational approach involving 99 VCD students from Maranatha Christian University selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment correlation test. The results show that all stages of Ellis’s information-seeking behavior theory have a positive and significant relationship with students’ information needs, including new inspiration, design trends, specific visual, technical, and commercial information. These findings indicate that Pinterest plays an important role as a digital medium that fulfills visual information needs and supports the creative learning process of VCD students.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify factors that influence information searches by students of Food Technology, Padjadjaran University, related to knowledge and skills in accessing information with the Anomalous State of Knowledge (ASK) theory. The study was conducted using a quantitative method, with research data collected through questionnaires consisting of closed questions (matrix questions) and open questions (contingency questions) as research instruments. The results of this study stated that (1) there is a significant relationship between the breadth of knowledge factor and information search actions. (2) there is a significant relationship between the information search skill factor and information access. This significant relationship is proven by the significance value of t <0.05 (result t <0.001). (3) The factor of students' ability to connect new information with information searches does not have a significant relationship, with a significance value of t > 0.05 (result t = 0.44), in the sense that students tend to experience knowledge anomalies, by the ASK Theory (Anomalous State of Knowledge). Then, the researcher suggests that students can always search for information to improve their knowledge and skills by utilizing technological developments (access to digital library services and other learning aids) and involving librarians in helping to improve knowledge and skills to find information to help in the learning process. This is because searching for information is not only limited to one source but can also be from comparing or adding other sources of information.

Abstract

Rules are made to ensure everything goes as planned. But people sometimes break the rules. The Unpad Central Library has a problem with users returning books late. This study aims to understand how library users feel about late returns. This study uses a quantitative approach to test a theory and prove a hypothesis. Variable X is the users' attitude, while variable Y is the action of returning books late. A quota sampling method was used to select 100 samples from a population of 189 library users who borrowed collections in June 2024 and returned them late. The test results show that there is a moderate correlation between library users' attitudes and the act of returning collections late. Users of Grha Kandaga Unpad Central Library know the rules about returning books. This affects how they feel and judge situations where users are late. This makes them make decisions based on their attitudes. Through this research, the library can understand how users respond to late returns. This helps the library improve its strategies to prevent unauthorized borrowing, especially related to the late return of book collection.

Abstract

Problems in libraries can be overcome one way by collaborating between libraries. Collaboration can be carried out by any type of library, including state university libraries. College libraries have the same functions as libraries in general and the functions included in the Tri Dharma of Higher Education include education, research and community service. The development of library resources at the Central Library of the Indonesian Education University is carried out in collaboration with the Salatiga State Islamic Institute Library. This research aims to find out what cooperation looks like, how cooperation is carried out, and what are the challenges in carrying out collaboration between the two libraries. The research method used is a qualitative research method and data collection techniques in the form of interviews with the Head of the Library Services Division of the UPI Central Library. The research results show that the cooperation carried out is cooperation in the field of information services and is bound by a memorandum of agreement with six scopes of cooperation. Several challenges were found, namely in terms of busyness of library managers, permission from the head of the library, and budget in carrying out collaboration. There are several scopes that cannot be realized in the implementation of cooperation. This cannot be used as a barrier to working together, but is a motivation for both parties because the priority is service to users.
