Abstract

The aim of the research is to determine the implementation of guard services to prevent the danger of collisions in MT. Star Valiant complies with procedures. The research was carried out at MT. Star Valiant, from 30 October 2019 to 20 November 2020. This type of research uses descriptive qualitative. The data collection methods used are observation, interviews and documentation studies. The results of the research show that the cause of the implementation of (P2TL) and sea watch service which has not been carried out well on board the ship is because a watch officer has not carried out his watch duties according to the set watch hours. and lack of inspection of navigation tools, especially radar, which must be adjusted to weather conditions and sea conditions.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to examine the key determinants of employee performance in the Indonesian maritime sector, particularly among ship crew members. The factors analyzed include training, work motivation, transformational leadership, and organizational culture, with the goal of understanding how these variables contribute to enhancing crew effectiveness, discipline, and productivity. Research Methodology: A descriptive qualitative approach using the SALSA (Search, Appraisal, Synthesis, and Analysis) framework was employed. A total of 30 peer-reviewed articles from academic databases published within the last eight years were systematically reviewed. The study used theoretical triangulation by applying established models such as Human Capital Theory, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, Bass’s Transformational Leadership, and Hofstede’s Organizational Culture Framework. Results: The findings reveal that training improves job competence, work quality, and accountability; motivation enhances commitment and timeliness; transformational leadership fosters trust, innovation, and responsibility; and organizational culture strengthens discipline, teamwork, and loyalty. Each variable positively influences employee performance in the maritime context. Conclusions: Investments in human resource factors particularly training, motivation, leadership, and organizational culture are crucial for enhancing the performance of maritime personnel. These factors serve as strategic levers to improve safety, operational efficiency, and service quality in the shipping industry. Limitations: The study is limited to secondary data from literature published in English and Bahasa Indonesia, lacks empirical field validation, and does not explore the interaction effects among the variables. Contribution: This study contributes conceptually by offering a synthesized framework linking human resource variables to maritime performance, thereby guiding future empirical research and managerial interventions in crew development and organizational transformation.

Abstract

Sakti dan mengevaluasi kesesuaiannya dengan prosedur yang tercantum dalam International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) 1974.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract: Implementation of Verified Containers Carried on Ships (Verified Gross Mass of Container) – VGM at Belawan Container Terminal (Research Team Supriadi and Christy Pongkessu). In an effort to improve shipping safety and minimize the risk of damage or accidents at sea due to load imbalance and overloading on ships, in May 2014 the International Maritime Organization - The Maritime Safety Committee (IMOMSC) has decided to approve changes to The International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) 1974 Chapter VI Article 2 concerning the requirements for verifying the gross weight of containers (Verified Gross Mass of Container/ VGM). Verified Gross Mass (VGM) is validated container weight information using scales that have been certified and accounted for by a verifier. This study aims to determine the implementation and impact of the implementation of Verified Gross Mass (VGM) at Belawan Port. This research was conducted at Belawan Port located in Medan City, North Sumatra, Indonesia for 6 (six) months, namely from May to October 2023. The type of research used is qualitative research. Qualitative research methods are research methods based on the philosophy of postpositivism, data collection techniques with triangulation (combined), inductive/qualitative data analysis. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that Belawan Port has implemented the Verified Gross Mass (VGM) procedure in accordance with SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) regulations. This process involves verifying the gross weight of containers before loading onto ships using appropriate weighing equipment. The main impact of implementing Verified Gross Mass (VGM) is increasing the safety of container ship navigation. By ensuring the correct gross weight of containers, ports can prevent ship accidents caused by gross weight inaccuracies. Keywords: Shipping Safety, Containers, Verified Gross Mass
