Abstract

The diseases triggered by free radicals in Indonesia are increasing. Free radicals can be neutralized by antioxidants. The main sources of antioxidants are plants or fruits. Kalakai (Stenochlaena palustris (Burm.f.) Bedd.) is one of the typical plants of Kalimantan known for its medicinal properties. The leaves of Kalakai contain compounds such as flavonoids, phenols, tannins, alkaloids, and saponins, which have antioxidant abilities. This research aims to determine the antioxidant activity of Kalakai leaf extract from Central Kalimantan against DPPH free radicals based on the IC50 value. Antioxidant activity was measured using the DPPH method and analyzed using UV-Vis spectrophotometry at a wavelength of 516.6 nm. The results showed that Kalakai leaf extract had moderate antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 241.547 ppm, while vitamin C as a positive control had strong activity with an IC50 of 10.031 ppm. These findings indicate that Kalakai leaves, although less potent than vitamin C, may serve as a promising natural antioxidant source. The conclusions is kalakai leaf extract exhibits moderate antioxidant activity and holds potential for further development in natural antioxidant applications.

Abstract

The co-infection of HIV with helminthiasis might accelerate the progression of HIV to AIDS, making a thorough comprehension of this condition essential for patients. This counseling session was conducted in the Ilir Timur 2 District (Dobu Coffee) with 30 HIV patients, employing a face-to-face methodology that included presentations by speakers and laboratory analyses of fecal materials. The comprehension was evaluated using a pre-test and post-test involving 34 participants, yielding an average pre-test score of 51.42 (standard deviation: 16.75) and a post-test score of 71.39 (standard deviation: 16.96), demonstrating a significant improvement. A PCR study indicated that 24 patients were positive for helminth infections. The results suggested a beneficial effect on participants' knowledge, but with score discrepancies. The detection of helminth infections in patients demands further investigation, including investigations on the correlation between helminth infections and the immune function of HIV patients. Additionally, routine examinations must be conducted as an integral part of patient health surveillance to guarantee beneficial early detection.

Abstract

Car Free Day (CFD) events offer a practical venue for health promotion and early detection of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). This community service program aimed to conduct blood pressure and random blood glucose screening while delivering brief NCD prevention education to the public at CFD Taman Rinjani, Selong. The activity was implemented on 30 November 2025 and involved 80 participants. The program included on-site measurements of blood pressure and random blood glucose, descriptive grouping of results by age and sex, and short counseling on NCD prevention and recommended follow-up. The findings indicated an age-related increase in mean systolic blood pressure, with the highest proportion of hypertension observed among older adults. Across younger and mid-adult groups, hypertension tended to be more frequent in men than in women. Elevated random blood glucose was uncommon overall but appeared mainly among women and was more noticeable in the older-age group. In summary, integrating screening and education in a public setting can help identify at-risk groups and encourage regular check-ups. Regularly scheduled CFD-based programs supported by selective referral pathways and strengthened lifestyle education may contribute to NCD risk reduction.

Abstract

Cancer education is an essential effort to improve public awareness and understanding, particularly among women, regarding the early detection of breast and cervical cancer. This community service activity aimed to provide education on cancer awareness, the importance of early detection, and the adoption of healthy lifestyles among Muslimat NWDI in East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. The activity was conducted through health education sessions combined with interactive discussions and an evaluation of participants’ understanding using a simple assessment instrument. The educational materials covered an introduction to breast and cervical cancer, breast self-examination (BSE), the importance of Pap smear screening, and lifestyle-related factors associated with cancer prevention. The results indicated that most participants demonstrated good to very good levels of understanding of the presented materials. Higher levels of understanding were observed among pre-elderly participants and those with a higher educational background. However, psychosocial barriers such as feelings of shame, fear, and cultural stigma related to reproductive health examinations were still identified. This socialization activity contributed positively to increasing participants’ awareness of the importance of early cancer detection. Nevertheless, continuous assistance and improved access to health services are needed to ensure the practical implementation of early detection behaviors within the community

Abstract

Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) have significant potential to support household health self-reliance and improve family income; however, their utilization at the community level is often limited to traditional use without value-added processing. This community engagement program aimed to strengthen the health and economic capacity of women’s religious study groups in Kalampangan through education, cultivation training, and processing of TOGA into herbal products. The program was implemented using a participatory approach through counseling sessions, hands-on training, and continuous assistance. Evaluation was conducted using pre–post tests on TOGA utilization and cultivation, with qualitative analysis into low, moderate, and high categories, supported by field observations and product evaluation. The results showed a clear shift in participants’ understanding from low to moderate and high categories across most indicators. In addition, participants successfully produced four herbal products, namely herbal tea bags, ginger-based herbal drinks (gingershoot), turmeric-based herbal drinks (curcuminshoot), and aromatic candles, and established a Joint Business Group to support program sustainability. These findings indicate that community-based utilization of family medicinal plants is not only effective in improving household health awareness but also has strong potential as a sustainable community-based economic empowerment strategy.

Abstract

Chronic kidney disease is a disorder of the kidneys characterized by abnormalities in kidney structure or function lasting more than 3 months. Serum creatinine level examination is used to assess kidney function in patients suspected of kidney organ disorders. Hemodialysis is one of the measures to minimize the risk of further kidney damage. The aim of this study is to observe the creatinine levels in chronic kidney disease patients on hemodialysis at RSUD Dr. Doris Sylvanus Palangka Raya in 2023. This research was conducted using a quantitative descriptive method. Purposive Sampling technique with Slovin's formula was used to obtain the sample. The sample in this study consisted of inpatients with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis and undergoing creatinine level examinations at RSUD Dr. Doris Sylvanus Palangka Raya in 2023. The results of this study showed that out of 222 patients, low creatinine levels amounted to 0.9%, normal creatinine levels 2.3%, and high creatinine levels 96.8%.
