Abstract

Giving MSG can reduce the morphological quality, motility, and count of spermatozoa. Propoelix extract as an antioxidant is evidently capable of a non-enzymatic radical scavenger. This research aims at evaluating the effect of propoelix extract administration on sperm quality of MSG-induced male Wistar rats. Employing the post the only control group design, 18 rats aged 3 months were divided into 3 random groups, weighing ±250 gram. Propoelix extract was given orally for 21 days and on 22 days, cauda epididymis until the ampulla of vas deferens was cut in a glass jar that has been given 0,5 cc of 0,9% physiological solution. The result of spermatozoa morphology (%) in group K (54,5) group P1 (65) group P2 (76) was significantly higher, p < 0,05. Spermatozoa motility (%) in group K (41.3) group P1 (53.8) group P2 (65.3) were significantly higher, p < 0.05. The number of spermatozoa cells (million/ml) in group K (2.65), group P1 (3.63), group P2 (4.91) was significantly higher, p < 0.05. Conculatition of propoelix extract was able to improve the quality of the morphology, motility, and the count of spermatozoa of MSG-induced male Wistar rats.

Abstract

Cinnamon has a high activity of antibacterial. Still, the antibacterial effect toward the bacteria on the positive Widal blood culture of Enterobacteriaceae family members was not clear yet. This research aimed to find out the inhibition of cinnamon on the growth of bacterium on the positive Widal blood culture of Enterobacteriaceae family members. The method used in the research was experimental research which was using the draw well method and using Salmonella typhi, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, Serratia marcescens, and Enterobacter cloacae bacteria samples. Cinnamon as a test solution with a 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% and 10% concentrate. The research result was showed the inhibiting zone was able to form on the Nutrient Agar Plate (NAP) on growth of the Enterobacteriaceae, 10% concentrate that high sensitive showed to S. typhi, Ser. marcescens, E. cloacae, E.coli, and Kleb. pneumonia squent was 12 mm, 11 mm, 11 mm, 10 mm, and 8,5 mm. At the same time, 8%, 6%, 4%, and 2% concentrate of cinnamon could not perform inhibition zone 100 µl of the test solution with chloramphenicol as a positive control.

Abstract

Hemoglobin levels are used as a requisite for determining blood transfusion therapy for patients with anemia. Prior to blood transfusion, it is initially stored in blood bags that contain CPDA-1 anticoagulant with a shelf life for 35 days at temperature 2-6°C with a FIFO system. The purpose of this study was to determine hemoglobin levels in blood bags on the third dan fifth day of increasing the patient’s hemoglobin level in Unit Donor Darah PMI Palangkaraya. The research was conducted with a descriptive method with a Linear Regression research design. The sample used is a whole blood bag of blood obtained by purposive sampling technique with a total sample is 30 blood bags. The paired Linear Regression on the while the whole blood bags obtained p < 0.05 indicating that there was effet storage in hemoglobin levels on the third day, and p > 0.05 indicating that was no effect storage in hemoglobin levels on the fifth day.

Abstract

A laboratory is a place or room carrying out research, learning, and experiment activities equipped with various equipment and materials supporting the work. This study aims to identify bacteria on nutrient agar plates at the Universitas Muhammadiyah Palangkaraya’s Microbiology Laboratory. This study uses observational research with a non-probability sampling technique with a cross-sectional research design. Bacterial samples were taken at several points using nutrient agar plates in the microbiology laboratory room. The results showed that when cultured on Nutrient Agar media in 12 glasses of petri, the results obtained were 100% bacterial growth. Bacteria identified using the gram staining method received 41.7% gram-negative Streptococcus bacteria, 41.7% gram-negative Staphylococcus, and 16.7% gram-positive Staphylococcus.

Abstract

Penyakit degeneratif merupakan penyakit kronis yang merupakan penyakit tidak menular. Saat ini penyakit degeneratif menjadi penyebab kematian terbesar di dunia. Remaja adalah masa transisi antara anak menjadi dewasa dengan munculnya perubahan biologis, psikologis, dan sosial emosional. Masa remaja merupakan kunci pada tahap perkembangan untuk membentuk kesehatan di masa dewasa, oleh sebab itu remaja Indonesia diharapkan sanggup mengendalikan dirinya untuk mengurangi perilaku berisiko terhadap kesehatan yang dapat mengakibatkan munculnya berbagai penyakit atau bahkan kematian. Mitra pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah siswa dan siswi Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri 10 Palangkaraya. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dengan dua metode, yaitu sosialisasi dan layanan pemeriksaan kesehatan bagi siswa. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan pengetahuan siswa yang berada di SMA Negeri 10 Palangkaraya tentang resiko penyakit degeneratif pada remaja.

Abstract

Head lice (Pediculus humanus capitis) are parasites that live on the hair and scalp of humans by sucking blood from the human scalp. The transmission of head lice can occur directly (hair to hair) and indirectly through shared accessories. A pesantren is one of the places where several people gather in the same location, and this is a primary factor in the spread of Pediculus humanus capitis infection. The research objective is to determine the number of children infected with Pediculus humanus capitis. The research method used is descriptive. The sample in this study consisted of 14 individuals taken using total sampling technique. The research results showed that there were 4 students (29%) infected with Pediculus humanus capitis at Pesantren Hidayatullah in Palangka Raya City, and 10 students (71%) were not infected with Pediculus humanus capitis. The positive results are believed to be due to the habit of using hair accessories such as shared hair combs, which increase the occurrence of Pediculus humanus capitis infection.

Abstract

Penelitian-penelitian terkait anemia sebenarnya sudah banyak dilakukan, hewan coba yang banyak digunakan untuk meneliti anemia defisiensi besi adalah mencit atau tikus. Namun, saat ini mencit diketahui telah berevolusi untuk mampu mempertahankan besi di dalam tubuh dibandingkan dengan tikus. Mayoritas pemberian diet rendah besi membutuhkan waktu yang lama yaitu sekitar 4-8 minggu. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan model protokol laboratorium terbaru animal model anemia defisiensi besi dengan menggunakan tikus putih strain wistar dalam waktu yang lebih cepat. Tikus dibagi ke dalam tiga kelompok, yaitu dengan pemberian pakan rendah besi, induksi NaNO2 dengan dosis 25g/200 BB tikus, serta kombinasi antara pakan rendah besi dan induksi NaNO2. Hasil data pengukuran pada KP1, KP2 dan KP3 didapatkan kadar hemoglobin dengan kisaran 12,2-15,7 g/dL; 12,8-13,7 g/dL dan 12,7-15,4 g/dL, dimana kadar hemoglobin tersebut masih dalam kisaran normal. Uji Kruskal-Wallis pada hasil pengukuran selama 21 hari tampak tidak ada pengaruh yang signifikan dengan nilai berturut-turut 0,051; 0,550 ; 0,051 (p<0,05). Pemberian pakan rendah besi maupun induksi senyawa NaNO2 yang bersifat karsinogenik pada tikus jantan Wistar yang telah diberi perlakukan untuk bisa menjadi animal model anemia defisiensi besi dapat digunakan namun memerlukan waktu pelakuan yang lebih lama agar terjadi kerusakan pada siklus hematopoesis.     Many types of research related to anemia have been carried out, and the experimental animals that are widely used to study iron deficiency anemia are mice or rats. However, currently, mice are known to have evolved to be able to retain iron in the body compared to mice. The majority of low-iron diets require a long time, which is about 4-8 weeks. This study aims to find the latest laboratory protocol model, an animal model of iron deficiency anemia using Wistar strain white rats in a faster time. Rats were divided into three groups, namely with low iron feed, induction of NaNO2 at a dose of 25g/200 BW rats, and a combination of low iron feed and induction of NaNO2. The measurement data results on KP1, KP2, and KP3 obtained hemoglobin levels in the range of 12.2-15.7 g/dL; 12.8-13.7 g/dL, and 12.7-15.4 g/dL, where the hemoglobin levels were still in the normal range. The Kruskal-Wallis test on the measurement results for 21 days did not appear to have a significant effect with successive values ​​of 0.051; 0.550; 0.051 (p<0.05). Giving low iron feed or induction of carcinogenic NaNO2 compounds in male Wistar rats that have been treated to become animal models of iron deficiency anemia can be used but require a longer treatment time to damage the hematopoietic cycle.

Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dengan dua metode, yaitu sosialisasi dan layanan pemeriksaan kesehatan bagi siswa. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan pengetahuan siswa yang berada di SMA Negeri 10 Palangkaraya tentang resiko penyakit degeneratif pada remaja.

Abstract

Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera Lam.) are known to have various health benefits, one of which is their potential as an antibacterial agent. This study aims to activate the antibacterial activity of moringa leaf extract against the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The test was carried out with five treatments, namely moringa leaf extract with concentrations of 15%, 30%, 50%, positive control, and negative control. The well diffusion method was used in the test, with incubation at 37°C for 24 hours. The diameter of the inhibition zone was measured as an indicator of effectiveness. The results showed that a concentration of 15% did not produce an inhibition zone, while concentrations of 30% and 50% showed an average inhibition zone of 0.87 mm and 2.85 mm, respectively. Based on the CLSI criteria, all results were divided into resistant because the size of the inhibition zone was ≤ 15 mm. Thus, it can be concluded that moringa leaf extract has not shown optimal effectiveness in inhibiting the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa..
