Abstract

The phenomenon of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in the novels of Ziggy Zezsyazeoviennazabrizkie represents a research area that can realistically depict a person's psychological condition. This study aims to describe the types of trauma, causal factors, and literary functions through a psychological literary analysis using a qualitative descriptive method, focusing on the novels di Tanah Lada, White Wedding, and San Francisco by Ziggy Zezsyazeoviennazabrizkie. The findings of this research indicate that the three protagonists from the three different novels are identified as experiencing PTSD trauma, caused by two factors: psychosocial and sociocultural. Furthermore, the study reveals the literary functions of story development, character development, and event creation. PTSD trauma is marked by exposure to painful or stressful events, the presence of intrusive symptoms following the traumatic events, continuous avoidance of stimuli related to the traumatic experience, and other related symptoms. Psychosocial causal factors include parental deprivation and a pathogenic family structure, while sociocultural factors involve social roles and social changes. The literary functions within the novels include story development, character development, and event creation. These three key themes show that the three different novels by the same author are interconnected, reflecting the psychological abnormalities of PTSD in the lives of the characters.

Abstract

his study aims to analyze the representation of Madurese masculinity in the folk tale Ke’ Lesap. The focus of the study lies in the values of courage, honor, the symbol of the celurit (traditional sickle), and social responsibility as key pillars of masculinity constructed in the story. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive-analytical methods. The primary data consists of the Ke’ Lesap text, collected through document studies, while secondary data is obtained from literature on masculinity and Madurese culture. The analysis technique applies content analysis to identify masculine themes in the story’s quotations, which are then interpreted using the theory of hegemonic masculinity (Connell & Messerschmidt, 2005) and cultural representation theory (Hall, 1997). The results show that masculinity in Ke’ Lesap is embodied through the main character’s courage and willingness to sacrifice for honor, the use of the celurit as a symbol of dignity, and the social role as a protector of community integrity. Masculinity in this tale emphasizes not only individual strength but also moral responsibility toward family and society. These values represent cultural heritage that continues to shape Madurese male identity. shape Madurese male identity.

Abstract

The emergence of new forms of literary works that utilize digital technology, such as Alternative Universe (AU) literature, has made literature relevant to the generation that grew up with social media and digital devices. This format offers a more visual and interactive reading experience, but perceptions of AU are still often compared to conventional literary works. The purpose of this study is to examine stylistic transformations in AU literature and their role in future language literacy. This study is a qualitative descriptive research using quotations from AU literary texts as data. The data analysis technique employed is a stylistic analysis approach, with the research process comprising data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that Alternative Universe literature has transformed Indonesian literature through four stylistic aspects: a shift in diction from formal-poetic to contemporary digital language, simplification of sentence structure and the dominance of mixed Indonesian-English code-switching, the explicit use of visual imagery through photos of idol characters, and the minimization of figurative language. AU significantly contributes to literacy through linguistic innovation (new vocabulary, abbreviations, acronyms), the democratization of digital literacy, and the development of multimodal literacy. AU literature shapes the future of the Indonesian language to be more complex with multiple registers and adaptive to technological developments.

Abstract

Tong-Tong Sèrèk is one of the traditional performances of the Madurese people, rich in social values, community solidarity, and expressions of folk culture. This article aims to examine the Tong-Tong Sèrèk performance as a reflection of culture and a symbol of resistance against social changes that erode traditional values, using Richard Hoggart's critical cultural approach. This research was conducted using a qualitative-descriptive method through field observations, in-depth interviews, and literature reviews. The findings reveal that Tong-Tong Sèrèk serves not only as entertainment but also represents the spirit of collectivity, hard work, and the local identity of the Madurese community, which has been marginalised by dominant culture and the tide of modernisation. From Hoggart's perspective, this performance can be interpreted as a form of cultural expression by the people that preserves authentic values amid the expansion of mass culture. This study underscores the importance of preserving local traditions as a form of symbolic resistance and strengthening the cultural identity of communities increasingly threatened by the homogenisation of modern culture.
