Abstract

Pre-service teachers’ limited understanding toward learner autonomy affects how they develop their own and their students’ autonomy. Therefore, this study aimed to reveal: (1) the pre-service teachers’ perception on the role of the teachers and students in learner autonomy; (2) the pre-service teachers’ activity on their own learner autonomy as a learner in teacher training school. 25 respondents were surveyed to acquire their perception. It was found that the pre-service teachers assumed that the teachers should hold the dominant role and be responsible to the learning results. Not only to that, the pre-service teachers still focused on exam-oriented activity; learning only from material given by the teacher in order to pass the exam. Due to that perception, their autonomous learning did not properly develop, as they prefer teacher-centered method. To deal with these findings, the pre-service teachers should not orientate on passing the exam, but rather on the progress as learning is a process not only the result.Keywords: Learner Autonomy, Pre-Service Teachers, Perception

Abstract

Pelatihan strategi belajar bahasa inggris bagi peserta didik yang akan menghadapi Ujian Nasional di SMP Walisongo memiliki Beberapa tujuan yaitu; 1) siswa memiliki pengetahuan tentang cara belajar bahasa inggris yang efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan mereka menghadapi ujian nasional; 2) siswa memiliki ketertarikan mempelajari bahasa inggris secara lebih antusias. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan catatan Lapangan yang dilakukan dengan mendokumentasikan proses pembelajaran baik dari aktivitas guru maupun siswa serta lingkungan atau kondisi pembelajaran. Hasil dari analisa data menunjukkan bahwa 1) siswa mempunyai wawasan yang luas tentang cara belajar dan strategi menyelesaikan soal Ujian Nasional; 2) Terdapat perubahan sikap dari yang kurang aktif, tidak antusias dan kurang terlibat menjadi lebih aktif, antusias dan mau berinteraksi secara kolaborasi selama Pengajaran berlangsung. Key Words: Strategi Belajar, Bahasa Inggris, Ujian Nasional

Abstract

Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah pendampingan siswa dengan menerapkan permainan papan scrabble dalam pembelajaran di kelas dan menghasilkan kosakata Bahasa Inggris yang baru bagi siswa. Kegiatan ini dilakukan di salah satu sekolah madrasah yang berada di Pontianak. Target Pesertanya adalah siswa kelas VIII. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode teori dan praktik. Hasil yang diperoleh melalui pelatihan ini adalah pengetahuan pembelajaran inovatif dengan permainan scrabble dan kemampuan peserta didik mengimplementasikan permainan scrabble untuk menambah kosakata Bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris mengadakan program pengabdian kepada masyarakat yaitu membangun minat peserta didik Kampung Inggris Parit Baru dalam belajar Bahasa Inggris. 137 peserta didik Kampung Inggris Parit Baru terlibat. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dari tanggal 22, 29 Pebruari, 7 dan 14 Maret 2020 di Kantor Desa Parit Baru, Kubu Raya. Catatan lapangan yang telah dianalisis secara tematik menunjukkan bahwa aktivitas bernyanyi yang menggunakan gerakan fisik tidak hanya berguna untuk mengajarkan Bahasa Inggris namun juga membangun minat peserta didik dalam belajar Bahasa Inggris. Rasa ingin tahu yang timbul dengan memberikan variasi pada materi ajar juga membantu membangun minat mereka. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa program pengabdian kepada masyarakat telah berhasil membantu membangun minat preserta didik dalam belajar Bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

This workshop's primary goal is to provide professional elementary school teachers writing scientific papers for their professional development. Operationally, the objectives of the activity are 1) skilled teachers who are ready to carry out the socialization of various types of teacher professional development; 2) talented teachers to be able to develop professions, especially in writing classroom action research (CAR) papers; 3) Improved teachers in compiling research reports and scientific journal articles; 4) Compilation of research reports on CAR activities written by teachers. To achieve this goal, training, workshop, and mentoring methods are used. At the end of this program, the following results were obtained: 1) A total of 25 elementary teachers attended the training activity as a whole for 26 lesson hours; 2) There was four times assistance in planning, implementing, and writing CAR reports; 3) There are 25 CAR reports that each participant has provided with the assisting team's guidance and direction; 4) The two best articles are ready to be published in periodicals published by institutions. This activity is an extension of socializing various professional development activities to teachers in the field, especially in scientific papers from classroom action research in the future.

Abstract

Decades-long researches in a language in contact field have proved that when a learner learns a new language, his/her knowledge regarding their first language might interfere with their learning. If it occurs, the learning process will be more challenging. The data in this research was collected by using document study technique on twenty-five research outlines written by preservice English teachers in order to investigate the potential of interferences of Indonesian subject – verb agreement pattern into English. To do so, a descriptive study was adopted. The data was analysed by incorporating error and contrastive analyses. The finding of this research confirmed that four types of subject – verb agreements pattern of English had been interfered by that of Indonesian. The grammatically incorrect sentences, which were caused by such interferences, occurred very individually. It means that the interference varies from one preservice English teacher to another.

Abstract

Bahan ajar yang inovatif diperlukan dalam proses pembelajaran. Penggunaan media yang kreatif dapat menarik minat pembelajar dalam mengikuti pembelajaran. Dalam penelitian ini, terdapat dua produk yang dihasilkan, yaitu materi ajar dan media pembelajaran. Permasalahan yang dibahas dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimana rancangan materi ajar dan media pembelajaran keterampilan menyimak bahasa Indonesia bagi pembelajar BIPA disalah satu Lembaga Pendidikan Bahasa. Pengembangan media pembelajaran diadaptasi dari model penelitian dan pengembangan Research dan Development/R&D yang merujuk pada teori Borg dan Gall. Langkah-langkah tersebut dikelompokkan menjadi tujuh langkah, yakni: (1) analisis kebutuhan, (2) pengembangan produk, (3) validasi ahli, (4) revisi, (5) uji coba lapangan, (6) revisi, (7) produk akhir. Instrumen penelitian ini berupa kuesioner dan wawancara. Berdasarkan hasil validasi, ahli materi memberikan skor rata-rata sebesar 4,0 terhadap materi ajar untuk pembelajar BIPA. Selanjutnya, ahli media memberikan skor rata-rata sebesar 3,5. Media pembelajaran untuk pembelajar BIPA dikembangkan dengan kualitas yang baik dan layak digunakan dalam pembelajaran.

Abstract

The 21st century ELT world is trying to migrate into the more relevant notion of international English. This notion, supposedly, supports every English speaker of a different nation, background, and culture. However, the public preference in native speaker is still apparent. This study is aimed to explore one non-native English speaker teacher’s experiences in teaching English along with a native English speaker teacher. This study employed narrative inquiry, the data gathered by interviews, and document analysis. The non-native English speaker teacher experiences several discriminations in the form of job division, job requirements, and even the wage difference. The public preference for native English speaker teachers is still apparent, looking at the growth of schools with native-speaker teachers.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate how EFL students apply critical thinking in speaking activities and to explore the levels of critical thinking achieved by EFL students in speaking activities at e-COLINK Pontianak. The population of this research was the EFL students of advanced level 3 at e-COLINK Pontianak with a total of eight students. The samples of this research were selected using total sampling technique. The researcher applied the type of descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The techniques of data collection used in this research were observation and direct communication. For collecting the data, the researcher used the instruments such as field notes and interview. To analyze the data, the researcher used descriptive qualitative analysis, which was based on the theory from Ary, Jacobs, Sorensen, Walker (2014). As the results, the researcher revealed that the EFL students applied critical thinking in speaking activities based on the indicators of critical thinking from some authors that had been summarized into six sections. The levels of critical thinking achieved by the EFL students were level of Understand and Apply which indicated as low level, and level of Evaluate which indicated as high level.
