Abstract

Padang City is one of the highest rice production areas in West Sumatra Province. However, there are significant risks and uncertainty in conducting rice cultivation including climate change, as well as being subject to pests and diseases of crops and livestock, and the fluctuation of rice prices in the market. Agricultural risk mitigation is a solution to dealing with high levels of risk. The Government has made efforts to mitigate agricultural risks through the Rice Farming Business Insurance (AUTP) program. Therefore, this study aims to analyse farmers' perceptions of the AUTP program in Padang City. The research method used is survey. Primary data were collected using a structured interviews for 100 respondents in three subdistricts. Respondents were selected by using non probability sampling with a purposive sampling method. The study results show that most of respondents already knew about the AUTP program from Extension Officers. However, almost 82 percent of respondents have never claimed due to the high percentage of damage claims (75% of the total affected land) which should be full filed.  Farmers’ reason for join the AUTP program is because of they had experienced crop failure. Though, they are willing to pay AUTP premiums of IDR 36,000/Ha per planting season as a protection for their rice farming businesses.

Abstract

Siam Kamang citrus farmers, who are known for their JESIKA products in Nagari Kamang Hilir, Kamang Magek District, Agam Regency, have been cultivating oranges since 1962. During its development, Siamese citrus farming experienced a period of production failure due to the CVPD virus attack. Excessive use of pesticides has affected the development of Siamese orange agribusiness in Nagari Kamang. Community service activities in the form of disseminating research results on prospects for developing Siamese orange agribusiness and the financial feasibility of Siamese citrus business are carried out in an effort to empower farmers to develop Siamese citrus farming. From the FGD activities carried out, farmers finally realized that farming patterns that use pesticides as an effort to prevent pests and diseases incur large costs and have a negative impact on the development of JESIKA agribusiness. Farmers are advised to cultivate JESIKA in accordance with the recommended SOP and apply a polyculture cropping pattern with an organic farming system to increase production more optimally

Abstract

Suatu wilayah dikatakan berhasil membangun ketahanan pangan jika adanya peningkatan produksi pangan, distribusi pangan yang lancar serta konsumsi pangan yang aman dan bergizi untuk masyarakat. Meskipun padi organik termasuk memiliki potensi keuntungan yang cukup besar namun hal ini belum tercermin pada ketahanan pangan rumah tangga petani padi organik di Kota Padang Panjang. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis proporsi pengeluaran pangan, besarnya tingkat konsumsi energi rumah tangga petani padi organik serta menganalisis kondisi ketahanan pangan rumah tangga petani padi organik. Penelitian dilakukan pada Kelompok Tani Organik Lembuti II Kota Padang Panjang yang dipilih secara purposive. Metode pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik sensus dengan jumlah sampel 30 orang. Data dianalisis dengan metode deskriptif kuantitatif. Besarnya rata-rata pengeluaran total rumah tangga petani organik sebesar Rp 3.303.341 per bulan. Dimana pengeluaran pangan sebesar Rp 1.596.786/bulan atau 48,34 % dari pengeluaran total dan pengeluaran non pangan sebesar Rp 1.706.555 atau 51,66 % dari pengeluaran total. Adapun tingkat ketahanan pangan yaitu tahan/kurang pangan. Rata-rata konsumsi energi rumah tangga petani padi organik pada Kelompok Tani Lembuti II sebesar 5.691,05 kkal/rumah tangga/hari dan untuk rata-rata konsumsi protein sebesar 182,68 gram/rumah tangga/hari. Tingkat konsumsi energi sebesar 68,03%, termasuk kategori defisit. Sedangkan tingkat konsumsi protein sebesar 79,54 %, termasuk kategori sedang. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa kondisi ketahanan pangan rumah tangga petani organic berdasarkan tingkatannya adalah kurang pangan. Untuk itu disarankan rumah tangga petani padi organik dapat memperbaiki pola dan perilaku konsumsi sesuai kecukupan energi dan protein yang dianjurkan dan dapat mengendalikan pengeluaran secara tepat.

Abstract

This research aims to: (1) determine the characteristics of sago farmers in Meranti Islands Regency; and (2) knowing the role of farmers in developing the people's sago agro-industry. This research uses a survey method with the help of a questionnaire. This research is further research with the survey method used. The number of samples used in this research is the number of research parameters multiplied by the indicators. The number of indicators in the main research was 5 x 20 so that 100 samples were obtained. The data analysis used is descriptive analysis. The results of the research show that the characteristics of Sago Farmers as seen from age, education, number of family dependents, land area and experience in sago farming are a reflection of the farmer's ability to develop the people's sago agroindustry. The local value of people's processed sago products is the ability possessed by farmers because of their ability to process sago into various products, as well as the existing decision-making mechanism for sago farmers still using a discussion system with traditional leaders (ninik mamak) community leaders, because traditional culture is still implemented with very good.
