Abstract

This article examines the paradigm of scientific integration in Islamic religious universities in Sumatra through a comparative and contextual approach. Although studies on scientific integration have grown rapidly, most remain confined to normative discussions and have not sufficiently examined how integration is constructed, interpreted, and implemented within diverse institutional contexts. Using a quasi-qualitative approach based on in-depth interviews, academic observations, document analysis, and focus group discussions (FGDs), this study explores the dynamics of scientific integration in three State Islamic Universities: UIN North Sumatra, UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh, and UIN Raden Fatah Palembang. The findings show that scientific integration is not understood as a singular unification of religious and scientific disciplines, but as a multi-layered epistemological process encompassing philosophical orientations, methodological alignments, and academic practices. Variations in integration paradigms emerge according to each institution’s vision, historical trajectory, and academic strategy, shaping different models of curriculum design, research orientation, and academic culture. These results indicate that the paradigm of scientific integration in Sumatra develops in a dynamic and context-dependent pattern rather than as a standardized institutional model. Beyond the local context, this study offers a reflective analytical framework for understanding scientific integration as a living epistemological process, contributing to broader discussions on Islamic higher education and contemporary global epistemological challenges.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to develop a video-based Qur’anic recitation (tilawah) learning medium to enhance the artistic recitation skills of students at Baabul Umam Islamic Boarding School, Hajoran Village, Sungai Kanan District. Methodology: The method employed in this study is Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE model, which consists of the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The study adopts a mixed-methods approach, in which qualitative data are utilized to analyze learning needs and contextual conditions, while quantitative data are used to measure the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the developed media. Main Findings: The findings indicate that the developed media demonstrate a very high level of validity, with percentages of 98% from subject matter experts, 90% from media experts, and 92% from instructional experts. The practicality level is categorized as very practical, as reflected by teachers’ responses at 96% and students’ responses at 93.87%. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the media falls into the highly effective category, with an N-Gain score of 0.83. Novelty/Originality of this study: The novelty of this study lies in the development of a video-based Qur’anic recitation (tilawah) learning medium that is contextually designed to meet the needs of students. This medium integrates aspects of tajwid, makharij al-huruf, and the melodic art of tilawah in an audio-visual format. This study offers an innovative approach to enhancing students’ artistic Qur’anic recitation skills and enriches instructional methods within Islamic boarding school environments effectively.

Abstract

The politics of education, which is essentially efforts and activities that refer to and are relevant to the formation and development of educational policies to achieve effective educational goals, has a close relationship with educational figures in its implementation. In this article, one of the Islamic educational figures who contributed greatly to Islamic learning such as hadith learning is Sheikh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary, with the aim that the Islamic educational figure can be examined in developing education. This will then be raised in the discussion and review of relevant literature on the object of this article. Qualitative research with a literature review approach is raised in this work as a form of examination of the traces of the contribution of the educational figure Sheikh Ali hasan ahmad addary in developing Islamic education which in this case is centered on the Mandailing region as the base and origin of this Islamic educational figure. Abstrak Politik pendidikan yang pada hakikatnya merupakan upaya-upaya dan kegiatan-kegiatan yang mengacu serta relevan kepada pembentukan dan pengembangan kebijakan pendidikan untuk mencapai tujuan pendidikan yang efektif memiliki kaitan yang erat dengan tokoh-tokoh pendidikan dalam implementasinya. Dalam artikel ini diangkat salah satu tokoh pendidikan islam yang berkontribusi besar dalam pembelajaran keislaman seperti pembelajaran hadis yaitu Syekh Ali hasan ahmad addary, dengan tujuan agar tokoh pendidikan islam itu dapat ditelaah sepak terjangnya dalam mengembangkan pendidikan. Hal ini kemudian akan diangkat dalam pembahasan dan kajian literatur yang relevan akan objek artikel ini. Penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan kajian literatur diangkat dalam karya ini sebagai bentuk telaah terhadap jejak kontribusi tokoh pendidikan Syekh Ali hasan ahmad addary dalam mengembangkan pendidikan keislaman yang dalam hal ini dipusatkan pada wilayah Mandailing sebagai basis serta asal dari tokoh pendidikan islam ini. Abstract

This background is based on the importance of the effective leadership role of madrasah principals in improving teacher performance, particularly at Padangsidimpuan State Islamic Junior High School. Challenges such as lack of teacher motivation, minimal professional training, and suboptimal communication between leaders and staff are factors that hinder performance improvement. Therefore, adaptive and innovative leadership strategies are needed to create a conducive work environment and encourage improvements in the quality of education. Methodology: This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection methods through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies at MTsN 1, MTsN 2, and MTsN Preparatory State Islamic Junior High School 3. Padangsidimpuan. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study showed that the madrasah principal implemented eight main strategies in building effective leadership to improve teacher performance; (1). Coaching strategy, through training, individual mentoring, and Professional Learning Community (PLC). (2). Supervision strategy, based on participatory academic supervision and constructive feedback. (3). Motivation strategy, through verbal appreciation, emotional support, and professional development. (4). Reward strategy in the form of certificates, incentives, and additional task trust. (5). Discipline strengthening strategy with a systemic, restorative approach, and based on a collective work culture. (6). Family gathering strategy to build emotional bonds and social capital in the madrasah environment. (7). Structured academic supervision strategy through a cycle Collaborative planning, observation, and reflection. (8) Lesson Study strategy as a vehicle for developing distributive leadership and improving the quality of learning. Effective leadership of madrasah principals is built through a holistic approach that integrates administrative, pedagogical, and relational aspects. The implemented strategy has proven significant in improving teacher performance through increased competence, motivation, collaboration, and a positive work culture. This study recommends the need to strengthen teacher development programs and leadership training based on Islamic values for the sustainable improvement of educational quality in madrasahs.
