Abstract

Wreathed hornbill is a bird species that  can be a bio-indicator and has a role in forest regeneration.  This study aimed to estimate the population density of the wreathed hornbill and to identify its habitat characteristics. Bird populations were counted using the Variable Circular Plot (VCP) method. Habitat characteristics were then assessed by measuring environmental factors and analyzing vegetation within 20 × 20 m plots established at foraging, roosting, and nesting sites. Data analysis involved determining individual density, distribution pattern, conducting vegetation analysis, and performing a Principal Component Analysis (PCA).  Wreathed hornbill that was found are 20 ± 1.2 individuals. The population density is 7.047 individuals/km2 and has a clustered distribution pattern. The habitat of the wreathed hornbill is characterized by a vegetation composition consisting of 14 species from 8 families. Types of trees with the highest INP were Ficus mbulu (Ficus annulata) (INP 54%), Ficus krandan (Ficus sp1) (INP 46%), and Ficus bulu so (Ficus globosa) (INP 32%). There are 9 types of foraging trees, 10 species of roasting trees, and 1 nesting tree species used by the wreated hornbill. Based on PCA, wind speed and light intensity are environmental factors that have a correlation with the population density of the wreated hornbill in Sokokembang Forest.

Abstract

This study investigates the pedagogical benefits and challenges of integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in English Language Teaching (ELT) classrooms. With the rapid advancement of AI, its application in education, particularly in language learning, has generated increasing scholarly and practical interest. A mixed-methods approach was adopted, combining quantitative data from a survey of 120 English teachers in Palembang with qualitative insights from in-depth interviews with 10 teachers. The survey employed a Likert-scale questionnaire to assess the perceived impact of AI, while thematic analysis was applied to the interview data. The findings indicate that 78% of respondents agreed AI supports personalized learning, 82% believed it enhances student engagement, and 75% reported increased student motivation. Nevertheless, 45% of teachers identified technical barriers such as unreliable internet access, and 52% expressed concerns over insufficient teacher training. Qualitative evidence reinforced these perspectives, with teachers highlighting the irreplaceable role of human interaction and warning against excessive reliance on AI tools. Overall, the study suggests that AI can enrich ELT by providing tailored content and real-time feedback, but its effective integration depends on addressing infrastructural limitations and strengthening teacher preparedness. Teachers also emphasized balancing AI with traditional pedagogies to preserve the essential human dimension of language learning. Beyond the classroom, these findings carry broader implications for policy and practice. They highlight the need for systemic reforms in infrastructure, sustained professional development, and stronger alignment between AI tools and curriculum goals. If strategically implemented, AI has the potential not only to enhance ELT practices but also to advance equitable, future-ready education systems.

Abstract

This study investigates the experiences and challenges of lecturers and students in the English Tadris Study Program of IAIN Curup in using AI writing tools for academic work. Using a qualitative approach with purposive sampling, data were collected from one lecturer and ten students through interviews, supported by a preliminary pilot study confirming the integration of AI in academic writing practices. The findings reveal that AI enhances idea development, organization, syntactic accuracy, vocabulary refinement, and writing confidence, functioning as a cognitive accelerator that streamlines the writing process. However, significant challenges emerge, including shallow idea generation, rigid structures, machine-like language, inaccurate citations, limited access to premium AI features, and insufficient prompt literacy. The discussion highlights deeper pedagogical implications, particularly the shifting paradigm from “writing as creation” to “writing as collaboration,” emphasizing the lecturer’s role as mediator of ethical AI use. Psychological transformations also appear, where efficiency leads to dependency, forming a “comfort paradox” that threatens independent thinking and authorial identity. The study concludes with recommendations for institutional AI guidelines, AI literacy integration, equitable access, and pedagogical redesign to balance automation with originality.

Abstract

Rapid advances in artificial intelligence (AI) have reshaped language education and raised new questions about how AI interacts with digital literacy and critical thinking development. This study presents a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following PRISMA 2020, examining Scopus-indexed articles published between 2015–2025. A total of 58 records were identified, 44 were screened, and 14 full-text studies were included for qualitative thematic synthesis. The findings reveal that AI literacy, digital literacy, and critical thinking operate as an interdependent cognitive ecosystem in language learning: AI functions as a cognitive mediator that can stimulate analytical reasoning; digital literacy equips learners to navigate and evaluate multimodal information; and critical thinking serves as an epistemic and ethical filter for responsible meaning-making. Effective pedagogical strategies identified include AI-supported inquiry, reflective scaffolding, and project-based digital literacy tasks, with teachers and virtual communities of practice serving as ethical mediators and collaborative support structures. Key challenges—cognitive offloading, algorithmic bias, and digital divides—pose risks to learner autonomy and equitable learning outcomes. To bridge these issues, this review proposes the AI-Enhanced Critical Literacy Pedagogy (AICLP) model, offering an integrative framework that connects cognitive, reflective, and ethical dimensions for strengthening critical thinking in AI-mediated language education. The model provides theoretical grounding and practical guidance for curriculum design, teacher development, and education policy in the digital era.
