Quasi-experimental design was implemented to the seventh grade in one of junior high school. The subject of this study was the whole population of seventh grade students in junor high school, in total 81 students. The data collection was taken from pre-test and post-test. The average score of experimental group is 73.81, and the average score of control group is 57.46. Moreover, the hypothesis test shows that Ho is rejected because tcounting (5.71) is higher than ttable (2.31). In TTW strategy the students collaborate between three activities those are Think, Talk, and Write. TTW strategy is more effective becausethe students have enough time in learning process in a class. Abstract

During the current pandemic, some schools have to implement hybrid learning, where some students come to school, and some have to go online. After the teacher gave the learning materials, some students who took online classes still did not understand it was different from students who took offline classes. The research used the qualitative method. The data was collected from 33 students in the 7b class and ten selected students based on their descriptive English writing text. It is revealed that the students have achieved reasonable control in writing descriptive text. However, in terms of writing, some students make spelling mistakes, and the use of tenses still needs more understanding. The result showed that the difficulties of descriptive writing are spelling, tenses, punctuation, sentence pattern, pronoun, conjunction, and preposition. They must consider schematic structures and use the appropriate language. Thus, their text will be well-organized and understandable.

Abstract

This article discusses how to participate in Teaching campus programs and implementing English conversation programs in rural areas. Because, English is one of the subjects considered difficult by elementary school students, especially in rural areas. This research was conducted at elementary school in Tulungagung, East Java which is a rural area. This study also uses the self-study method, in which data are taken from observations and interviews with English teachers in schools to find out the difficulties or challenges in teaching and learning in rural schools, Therefore, the self-study researcher is not the self who does the research, but rather the self being studied, not that the self is the only focus. This progression in self-study characterizes teaching as well. So after that, the author compiled this conversation program. The method used in the implementation of this conversation program uses the appropriate TPR (Total Physical Response) method to support challenges or difficulties in teaching and learning. This program is carried out once every 2 weeks and is only attended by class 5. And to find out the improvement of students after joining this program, the author gives a quiz or post-test. This study aims to determine whether there is a difference between the learning outcomes of English vocabulary improvement in descriptive text learning for students before and after the Gamification method is applied. The subjects of this study were 41 students of MTS Muhammadiyah 1 Taman. Data collection using tests in the form of multiple choice and essay to measure learning outcomes in English vocabulary improvement. The method used is quantitative method, data analysis using paired sample t test. The results show that the mean score of the post-test is higher than the mean score of the pre-test, this means that there is an increase in learning outcomes of English vocabulary after the Gamification method is applied, the results also show that the significance obtained is 0.000, which is smaller than 0.05, thus Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. This means that there is a significant difference between the learning outcomes of English vocabulary in descriptive text learning before and after the implementation of learning strategies using the Gamification method.

Abstract

Students study in a variety of ways or styles. Understanding and learning challenges may be impacted by this learning style. One of the numerous types of research is on learning style. Student’s learning styles and diverse learning methods might help them become better writers in English. This research aims to demonstrate how students' learning styles and the development of their writing skill are related. The participants in this research are VIII-A graders at one of the Muhammadiyah private schools in Sidoarjo. This correlation study used a Likert scale questionnaire as the instrument. The answers to the questionnaire were then connected with the students' writing scores using a quantitative research strategy and the correlation with IBM SPSS 26. The researchers found that the result of testing the hypothesis (rcount) was 0.641 and the score (rtable) was 0.515 indicating that the score of rcount>rtable was 0.641>0.515. This means that Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected which has a positive meaning or there is a significant relationship between students' visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles and students' writing skill. This study implies that each student has certain learning style so that in the classroom instruction the teachers need to be aware their different characteristics to optimize the students’ learning outcomes including in English writing class

Abstract

This scientific article aims to investigate the integration of EdPuzzle media in teaching modules developed by high school English teachers following the Kurikulum Merdeka (KM) framework. Using document analysis, 16 EdPuzzle-integrated teaching module documents were qualitatively examined to understand teachers' preferences in selecting materials, methods, models, and assessments. The findings reveal that teachers successfully developed modules aligned with learning objectives and KM characteristics, incorporating EdPuzzle as both teaching material and assessment method. The study indicates a preference for narrative text topics, blended-learning models, and discussion methods. Writing skills were predominantly assessed using short-answer techniques, with EdPuzzle media mainly utilized for learning material rather than assessment. The implications suggest the need for teachers to diversify learning approaches, explore innovative techniques, and integrate technology effectively for an enhanced English Language Teaching experience. Highlight: The study explores the integration of EdPuzzle media in teaching modules within the context of Kurikulum Merdeka. High school English teachers successfully adapt teaching modules to align with learning objectives and KM characteristics. The majority of teachers utilize EdPuzzle both as learning material and as an assessment method, particularly in the context of narrative text topics. Abstract

Many EFL learners who have spent years studying the language cannot perform well in writing. The difficulties in producing written English can hinder the success of learning English. Thus, this research aims to analyse the challenges that students commonly face in writing descriptive text. It employed a qualitative descriptive method to study the writing performance of seventh-grade EFL learners in one of the Indonesian junior high schools. Observation, students’ texts, and questionnaires were used to collect the data. The results of this study show that the difficulties in writing descriptive text concern language (vocabulary and language use), cognition (content, organisation, and mechanics), and psychological difficulties (feedback). The significant difficulty found in the students’ writing is reflected by mistakes made in language mechanics, which returned the lowest mean score (1.71). The other factors contributing to the students’ low writing performance are lack of vocabulary, of interest in learning English, and of understanding of language use and the structure of the text. Further factors include limited exposure to English writing activities – compounded by limited availability of dictionaries – as well as ineffective feedback from the teacher. Based on the results, it is suggested that teachers pay more attention to all aspects of challenges faced by students and their contributing factors by creating or providing creative and effective learning methods or media that can encourage students to achieve their learning objectives. Keywords: Students’ difficulties; Writing; Descriptive text

Abstract

In this sophisticated globalization era, the use of technology as a varied learning media affects student responses in the learning process. EdPuzzle is one of the interesting media that has been used for learning activities, including English listening activities. This medium helps teachers to ensure that students have seen the learning material as a whole and determine whether they have understood the content as well as the language. Thus, this study aims to investigate students’ satisfaction on the English learning in virtual class through EdPuzzle. This study used survey as the research design by using close-ended questionnaire for quantitative data. The subject of this research was the first-year students of Auto-mechanical program from one private colleges in Thailand. The results show that listening activities assisted by EdPuzzle is challenging and interesting for students. It gives different situation when the students try to comprehend the story as the learner’s material as well as the source for assessment. The feature makes the students keep focusing on the whole stories before the finish the lesson. Thus, EdPuzzle is strongly recommended to be used in teaching to support the development of instructional activities using audio-visual sources. In addition, English teachers can be creative to provide teacher-made video to adjust the students’ English proficiency.
