Abstract

Crop rotation is one of the cultivation strategies that can improve agricultural productivity, especially in dryland areas characterized by limited water and nutrient availability. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of various crop rotation types on maize (Zea mays L.) production in dryland conditions. The research was conducted using a field experiment with a randomized block design (RBD) consisting of four treatments: maize after soybean, peanut, sweet potato, and continuous maize cropping (monoculture) as a control. The results showed that rotation with leguminous crops, particularly soybean, significantly increased maize yield compared to monoculture. In addition, crop rotation improved agronomic parameters such as plant height, number of leaves, and leaf greenness index. Soil conditions also improved, as indicated by looser soil texture and higher organic matter content. Thus, crop rotation is proven to be an effective and sustainable approach to increasing maize productivity in dryland farming systems.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effects of different growing media—soil, compost, and sand—on the growth of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) plants. The experiment was conducted using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three treatments and five replications. Growth parameters including plant height, number of leaves, and root length were observed over an eight-week period. The results indicated that the type of growing medium had a significant effect on all measured parameters. Plants grown in compost exhibited the highest average plant height and number of leaves, followed by those grown in soil. In contrast, sand produced the lowest growth performance. Although the longest root length was observed in plants grown in sand, this was likely a response to water and nutrient stress. Compost proved to be the most effective medium for supporting healthy and uniform peanut growth. These findings suggest that compost, as an organic-rich growing medium, can significantly improve peanut cultivation and serve as a sustainable option for areas with limited fertile soil.

Abstract

Crop rotation is an environmentally friendly agricultural method that is effective in maintaining soil fertility and reducing pest attacks. This study aims to assess the impact of legume crop rotation, especially groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.), on soil quality. The study was conducted through literature studies from various scientific sources. Results show that groundnut is able to improve soil through symbiosis with nitrogen-fixing bacteria such as Rhizobium sp. and encourage functional microbial activities such as nitrifying bacteria (Nitrosomonas sp. and Nitrobacter sp.). Crop rotation also increases organic matter content, improves soil structure, and increases the availability of nitrogen in the form of nitrate that is easily absorbed by plants. In addition, root exudates from groundnuts enrich the rhizosphere with beneficial microorganisms. Overall, legume crop rotation contributes greatly to improving soil fertility in a natural and sustainable manner.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of different planting distances on the growth and yield of banana plants in open fields. The research was conducted experimentally using a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four spacing treatments: 2 x 2 m, 2.5 x 2.5 m, 3 x 3 m, and 3.5 x 3.5 m, each repeated four times. Observed parameters included plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, number of bunches, bunch weight, and number of fruits per bunch. The results showed that planting distance significantly affected banana plant growth and yield. The 3 x 3 m spacing treatment produced the best vegetative growth and the highest yield compared to the other treatments. Therefore, a 3 x 3 m spacing is recommended for banana cultivation in open fields to achieve optimal results.

Abstract

Fertilization is a crucial aspect in increasing the productivity of soybean (Glycine max L.), both in terms of vegetative growth and yield. Organic fertilizers, such as compost and manure, play a long-term role in improving the physical, chemical, and biological structure of the soil, increasing microbial activity, and gradually supporting nutrient availability (Widodo et al., 2018; Yang et al., 2004). Meanwhile, inorganic fertilizers such as urea, NPK, and SP-36 provide nutrients quickly and efficiently, thereby accelerating plant growth and increasing yields in a relatively short time (Putra Manik et al., 2019). However, excessive use of inorganic fertilizers can lead to decreased soil fertility and environmental pollution (Nugroho et al., 2017). Several studies indicate that the combination of organic and inorganic fertilization can create synergy that increases nutrient uptake efficiency, improves soil quality, and supports sustainable plant productivity (Migunansyah, 2009; Khaerunisa, 2013). Therefore, an integrated fertilization strategy is highly recommended in an environmentally friendly soybean cultivation system.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of B2 urine, a liquid organic fertilizer produced by fermented cow urine, on the growth and yield of peanut plants (Arachis hypogaea L.). Cow urine contains nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and bioactive compounds that support plant growth organically. The method used was a literature review and secondary data analysis from previous studies with various doses of B2 urine application. Parameters observed included plant height, number of pods, and dry seed weight per plant. The results showed that a dose of B2 urine of around 3,000–6,000 L/ha had a positive effect on vegetative growth, especially leaf number and plant height. In addition, the combination of biourine with other organic fertilizers significantly increased seed production. The use of B2 urine has been shown to support environmentally friendly agricultural practices and reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effects of various types of organic fertilizers on the growth and yield of peanuts (Arachis hypogaea). Several studies have shown that the application of organic fertilizers—such as chicken manure, rice straw compost, and liquid organic fertilizer (POC)—significantly increases the vegetative and generative growth of plants. This occurs because organic fertilizers improve soil structure, increase water retention capacity, and provide essential nutrients such as nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K). The combination of organic and inorganic fertilizers is known to produce yields up to 59.43% higher than without fertilizer. In addition, the use of organic fertilizers supports environmental sustainability and increases the activity of soil microorganisms that play a role in the decomposition and mineralization of nutrients. Therefore, the use of organic fertilizers is an important strategy in realizing a sustainable and productive agricultural system.

Abstract

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a primary food commodity vital to achieving national food security in Indonesia. However, challenges to increasing rice productivity, such as land degradation, climate change, and limited human resources, pose significant obstacles. The application of modern cultivation technologies is a strategic solution to address these challenges. Innovations such as new superior varieties (VUB), precision irrigation, agricultural mechanization, the jajar legowo (sequence planting system), and digital-based technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and drones have been proven to increase rice production efficiency and yields. System of Rice Intensification (SRI) technology, for example, has shown yield increases of up to 20–50% compared to conventional methods. Furthermore, mechanized harvesting and planting can reduce labor costs and accelerate production times. This study uses a literature review approach to identify the role and impact of modern cultivation technologies on rice productivity in Indonesia. The results indicate that synergy between technology, training, and policy support is essential for widespread and sustainable technology adoption. Thus, the use of modern cultivation technologies has significant potential to support food self-sufficiency and improve farmer welfare.

Abstract

The productivity of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is greatly influenced by the quality of the soil in which it is cultivated. Poor soil structure and low organic matter content are among the main limiting factors for optimal peanut growth. One potential solution is the use of rice husk charcoal (biochar) as a soil amendment. Rice husk charcoal has been shown to improve the physical and chemical properties of soil, such as enhancing porosity, cation exchange capacity (CEC), and soil pH. This study is based on a literature review of various scientific sources discussing the application of rice husk charcoal in crop cultivation, particularly legumes such as peanuts. The review indicates that rice husk charcoal can increase nutrient availability, improve soil aeration and water retention, and support root development and pod formation. Several studies also report yield increases of up to 20–30% in peanuts when appropriate doses of rice husk charcoal are applied. Therefore, rice husk charcoal can be recommended as an environmentally friendly soil amendment for sustainable peanut farming systems.
