Abstract

Persuasive communication is a strategy employed to convince and influence others to accept a message without imposing pressure, while still allowing them the freedom to either accept or reject it.In 2023, a medical-themed series titled "Daily Dose of Sunshine" was released, addressing mental health issues. Such series play a vital role in raising awareness and understanding of these issues among the public. This research aims to examine the persuasive communication used by doctors and nurses towards patients regarding mental health awareness in "Daily Dose of Sunshine." The qualitative analysis employs Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic method, focusing on signifiers and signifieds. Data comprise dialogue excerpts and images from the series. Results reveal persuasive communication techniques such as framing, integration, payoff, and fear arousing, predominantly conveyed through direct verbal communication. Supporting factors include the credibility and attractiveness of communicators. Feedback from persuadees indicates acceptance of persuasive messages, leading to increased openness and positive actions as advised by medical professionals.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI)-powered chatbots have substantially reshaped the landscape of human-AI interaction, yet questions remain about the communicative behaviors users deploy in these exchanges and how they are shaped by AI system characteristics. This study investigates communication pattern typologies in human-chatbot interactions through qualitative thematic analysis of 150 conversation transcripts across customer service, mental health, and educational contexts. Grounded in social presence theory and affordance theory, and employing reflexive thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2022) with an interpretivist-constructivist epistemological stance, this study identified five typologies of communication patterns: adaptive mirroring (prevalent across the majority of transcripts, 78.7%), emotional scaffolding (frequently manifested, 65.3%), contextual anchoring (emergent in a substantial portion of conversations, 58.0%), conversational repair mechanisms (present in a considerable minority, 42.7%), and trust-building narratives (identified in over one-third of transcripts, 37.3%). These figures reflect descriptive frequency counts indicating the proportion of transcripts in which each pattern was observed; they serve as organizational summaries, not statistical evidence, and patterns are not mutually exclusive. The distribution of these patterns varied across demographic groups and interaction contexts, with younger participants showing comparatively greater communicative flexibility. Results suggest that users deploy socially patterned communicative behaviors in AI-mediated contexts that extend beyond purely task-oriented exchanges. These findings carry implications for designing AI systems that are attentive to the relational and contextual dimensions of user communication in healthcare, education, and customer service.

Abstract

This study examines how Midea Electronics' "Buy Win Fly 2.0" event enhanced brand image through experiential marketing, using qualitative methods including interviews to analyze how entertainment, excitement, and enterprise elements shaped consumer perceptions. Findings reveal the event successfully created emotional connections through interactive games, international trip prizes, and nationwide activations featuring Manchester City collaborations, strengthening Midea's identity as an innovative and trustworthy brand while driving immediate sales and long-term loyalty. The program demonstrated event marketing's superiority over traditional advertising in building consumer relationships through immersive activities that fostered personal engagement, high-value rewards generating word-of-mouth promotion, and strategic partnerships reinforcing global positioning. The study provides actionable insights for electronics brands to design memorable experiences, leverage emotional triggers, and integrate online-offline touchpoints, while recommending future events incorporate digital extensions and sustainability themes to engage younger demographics, ultimately contributing to understanding how experiential marketing drives brand perception in competitive industries.
