Abstract

This study aims to analyze the assessment skills of prospective biology teachers in developing assessment planning and qualitative test items. The method used is qualitative descriptive, with document analysis sheets and questionnaires as instruments. The study was conducted at a private university in Jakarta, involving 66 students using a saturated sampling technique. The results indicate that the prospective teachers' ability in “Developing Assessment Planning” falls under the “Good” category, while their ability in “Constructing Qualitative Test Items” is categorized as “Very Good.” The highest indicator in assessment planning is “Designing Assessments,” which is categorized as “Very Good” for meeting the minimum percentage criteria. The lowest indicator is “Formulating Competency Achievement Indicators,” which falls under the “Fair” category. The main challenge identified is the lack of understanding of biology assessment that is not yet fully aligned with the existing indicators. Thus, the implications of this study are significant in evaluating the competencies of prospective biology teachers in assessment development and planning. The findings can serve as a basis for developing more comprehensive assessment training programs, particularly to strengthen understanding in formulating competency achievement indicators and other areas needing improvement. Keywords: Assessment skills, prospective biology teachers, assessment planning.

Abstract

This study employed the context, input, process, and product (CIPP) model to evaluate the facilities management of a private high school in Jakarta, Indonesia. Participants included teachers, staff, parents, students, and vice principals. Data collection methods encompassed interviews and checklist observations, with participant triangulation used for data validation and verification. Findings indicated a moderate alignment between the context and the objectives of facilities management. While the input, processes, and outputs somewhat addressed stakeholders' educational needs, the school principal effectively facilitated the teaching and learning environment through her roles as a planner, implementer, and supervisor of facilities management. Nevertheless, the school encounters several challenges, such as adapting to the digital era, securing funding, competition, the necessity for a qualified facilities manager, and the need for repairs in several facilities. By identifying the strengths and challenges in the current management practices, including the role of the principal and the impact of digital transformation, the study provides valuable insights for improving facility management. The study recommended the development of a digital facility management system to enhance accessibility for both educators and students.

Abstract

Ecological literacy is an essential aspect for fostering an understanding of and responsibility for environmental stewardship in young learners, yet limited research examines how children engage with ecological concepts in unique island-based settings. This study aimed to explore the primary pupils’ perceptions of ecological literacy at an island-based school through participation in a mangrove planting program. Employing a case study research design with ten participants, semi-structured interviews revealed five themes: foundational understanding, personal connection to nature, daily environmental awareness, environmental education value, and concern for preservation. Pupils’ attitudes toward ecological responsibility revealed seven themes: belief in personal and collective agency, practical environmental actions, environmental impact awareness, emotional connection to nature, peer encouragement participation, stewardship, and experiential learning. The results undeline the need of practical, place-based educational activities in fostering ecological literacy. This program help pupils to develop active participation and feeling of responsibility and deepen their knowledge of environmental ideas.

Abstract

Learning a dual language at the same time during early childhood has caused the wrong perception. Its false perception makes the parents delay the start of learning a second /foreign language. Therefore, This study aims at analyzing the first and second language acquisition of a child in the Indonesian Language and English. The issues concentrated on the spoken utterances in Indonesian and English and its affecting factors. The research adopted a qualitative approach by using a case study, as the unit analysis is a child of 3 years old. For data collection, I employed The naturalistic approach, which I kept daily notes on the progress of a child’s linguistic and recorded the dialogues. Since it is a longitudinal study, the research was conducted for two years, from 2014 to 2015. The research has revealed that utterances spoken have primarily increased and the child has already understood the commands by following the instructions. Some concepts such as feeling, taste, color, and numbers as well as short phrases and simple words in Indonesian and English at the same time can be understood and uttered.  She also can change the affirmative sentence to question in term of objects she sees in her surrounding. Factors such as linguistic inputs, imitation, environment, and significant others as exposure, and language acquisition device affect a child utterance. Thus, it indicates that two languages can be taught at the same time at an early age, and it doesn’t cause misunderstanding or confusion utterance, language acquisition, exposure, L1 and L2

Abstract

The main reason for the research significance is misconceptions arising in the field when implementing Sekolah Penggerak Program, which started in 2021. Thus, the objectives of this study are to describe programs for enhancing exceptional human resources, and to explore the Kurikulum Operasional Satuan Pendidikan (education unit operational curriculum), and the Merdeka Curriculum learning. Four elementary schools in Indonesia's urban and rural areas served as the research unit for analysis, which used a qualitative comparative case study design. The results demonstrate that the programs of ministry of education, culture, and technology research for improving human resources, which includes training and mentoring, have a favourable effect on both rural and urban primary schools. However, only one out of four schools examined the context of the educational unit while creating education unit operational curriculum documents, and every school simply used education unit operational curriculum as a prerequisite for administrative fulfilment. Based on the available components, all teachers developed teaching modules for the Merdeka Curriculum. It was found, nevertheless, that the students were not genuinely exposed to the content of these modules.
