Abstract

ABSTRACT                 This study aims to find out whether there is or not a significant effect of using Mystery photo in improving students’ vocabulary achievement at the VII A grade of SMP Negeri 2 Oheo. The research question in this study “is there any significant effect of students’ vocabulary achievement after being taught through Mystery photo at the VII A grade of SMP Negeri 2 Oheo?” This study used quasi experimental design. The sample of this research was 60 students which divided into two classes. In collecting the data, the researcher used vocabulary test which consists of multiple-choice, fill in the blank and matching test. In conducting this study, the researcher taught experimental class by using Mystery photo without a control class. The result of this study showed that the teaching of vocabulary by using Mystery photo could improve the students’ vocabulary achievement at the VII grade of SMP Negeri 2 Oheo. It can be proved that the analysis of tcount 5.745 was higher than ttable 1.671 after consulting the ttable at the significant level 0.05 and the degree of freedom 58. Ho was rejected and H1 was accepted.Keywords:  mystery photo, vocabulary achievement, students’ improvement

Abstract

This study aimed to reveal the teaching techniques that are used by the teacher in teaching English to Young Learners (TEYL) at SDN 3 Baruga Kendari. This study applied descriptive qualitative design. Subject of this study is the teacher of class 4A in SDN 3 Baruga. She was taken through purposive sampling technique. To obtain the data it used observation sheet and interview. The observation was conducted to identify the teaching techniques that were applied by the teacher in teaching EYL. The interview was enabling the writer to recheck the data of the process of classroom by looking at teachers’ point of view. The result of the study indicated that the teacher used seven techniques namely listen and repeat, question and answer, listen and do, draw and color, brainstorming, pair work and group discussion. Those techniques were reliable to be applied in teaching EYL. Among those techniques the teacher mostly applied listen and repeat. This technique helped students to remember what they had learned easily and stimulated students’ sense of listening. Considering the advantages of listen and repeat, it could be teacher’s opinion to make effective the teaching and learning process in order to increase students’ ability.Keywords: Teachers’ Technique, Teaching EYL

Abstract

This study is a classroom action research (CAR) on utilizing animation video in teaching vocabulary to young learners. Therefore, the objective of this study is to find whether the use of animation video can improve vocabulary mastery of grade IV students of SD Negeri 2 Baruga. This research is conducted within two cycles in which each cycle consisted of three meetings. Either first cycle or second cycle consisted of planning, action, observation/evaluation, and reflection. The subject of this study was students at grade IV of SD Negeri 2 Baruga. A number of the students in the class were 30 with 8 male and 22 female. Then, the instruments were used in this study include observation sheet of teacher’s and students’ activity, and vocabulary test. The researcher found that teaching English by using animation video can improve students’ vocabulary at grade IV of SD Negeri 2 Baruga. The improvement could be seen in the result of students’ achievement after conducting this study was 93 % proved that it achieved classical achievement. Moreover, percentage of teacher’s and student’s activity also achieved 82.14% and 68.70%. On other words, the students’ vocabulary at grade IV of SD Negeri 2 Baruga improved by using animation video.Keywords:  Animation video, Vocabulary and Young Learner

Abstract

This study aimed to explore deeply about students experience how YouTube video can enhance students’ creativity toward make a good media for teaching in FLTM class. This research was classroom action research, subject of this study is fifth semester English students at class A. The number of students was 25 students with 4 men and 21 women consisting of 10 research subjects. The instrument of this study conducted two different instruments namely Test and Observation Sheet.  The result of this study showed that the level of students’ creativity was improved from test in meeting I to test meeting II with the data analysis from Test and supported with Observation Sheet. The improvement of students’ score on tests meeting I and II was influenced by the situation in the class. Students' need was one of the main factors that can affect student scores to increase the level of creativity toward make a good media. This study really hopped the results of this study can have an impact on both parties, namely teachers and students as reference to provide progress in teaching quality specifically in the FLTM class.
