Abstract

This study was motivated by the low learning motivation of students in reproductive system topics in Grade XI of senior high school, which is attributed to conventional teaching approaches and the lack of interactive digital teaching materials. The reproductive system is often perceived as abstract and sensitive, thus requiring an innovative learning strategy. This research aimed to develop a valid, practical, and effective Discovery Learning-based e-module on the reproductive system supported by Instagram to enhance students’ learning motivation. The method employed was Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE model, which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The trial involved 32 students from class XI MIA 2 at SMA Negeri 1 Barru. Instruments included validation sheets, teacher and student response questionnaires, and a learning motivation questionnaire. The validation results indicated that the e-module and its supporting instruments were in the "very valid" and "very feasible" categories, with average scores above 3.75. Teachers rated the practicality of the e-module at 88.39% (very practical category). Its effectiveness was demonstrated by an increase in learning motivation from 56.38% to 84%, with an average N-Gain score of 0.58 (moderate category). Significant improvements were also observed in indicators such as students’ interest in solving problems (36.40%) and their enthusiasm for expressing and defending opinions (39.82%). Therefore, the Discovery Learning-based e-module on the reproductive system supported by Instagram effectively enhanced students’ motivation and is well-suited to the characteristics of today’s digital-native learners.

Abstract

Twenty-first century skills such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity (4C) are essential competencies in today’s global education landscape. However, various reports indicate that Indonesian students still demonstrate low proficiency in these skills, particularly in chemistry learning, which remains dominated by rote memorization and teacher-centered instruction. To address this challenge, the integration of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) with the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) approach has emerged as an innovative strategy to promote contextual, interdisciplinary learning. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the PBL-STEM model in enhancing 21st-century skills through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. Data were collected from 16 peer-reviewed articles published between 2019 and 2025, focusing on chemistry learning at the senior high school level and the development of 21st-century competencies. Thematic analysis was employed to synthesize findings based on the type of skills addressed and the research designs used. The results indicate that the PBL-STEM model consistently enhances critical thinking, self-efficacy, scientific argumentation, science process skills, science literacy, and career interest. Several studies also reported the successful development of PBL-STEM-based learning modules that are valid, practical, and support self-directed learning. The findings confirm that integrating PBL with STEM constitutes a holistic and effective learning approach aligned with the goals of the Merdeka Curriculum, making it highly recommended for widespread implementation in senior high school chemistry instruction.

Abstract

This article presents a theoretical reconstruction of educational leadership through the integration of local wisdom values using a qualitative literature study approach. The background of this study lies in the dominance of universal leadership models that tend to marginalize socio-cultural contexts, resulting in educational leadership practices that are less adaptive and less meaningful in local settings. This condition indicates the need for a reorientation of educational leadership toward a contextual and culturally grounded paradigm, particularly in multicultural societies such as Indonesia. This study employs a qualitative literature review by analyzing national and international journal articles and academic books published within the last ten years that discuss educational leadership and local wisdom. Data were analyzed using content analysis and thematic analysis to identify conceptual patterns, core values, and leadership practices that reflect local wisdom. The findings reveal that local wisdom values such as gotong royong, musyawarah, exemplary leadership, social harmony, and environmental awareness constitute a strategic foundation for reconstructing educational leadership that is contextual, humanistic, and participatory. The integration of these values strengthens school culture, enhances teacher performance and discipline, promotes participatory decision-making, and reinforces school–community relations. This study concludes that reconstructing educational leadership based on local wisdom not only enriches leadership theory with cultural and contextual dimensions but also provides a sustainable alternative framework for educational leadership practices in Indonesia.

Abstract

Biology education plays a strategic role in equipping students not only with mastery of scientific concepts but also with 21st-century skills, including entrepreneurial mindset and environmental sustainability awareness. Challenges related to limited formal employment opportunities, the demographic dividend, as well as national agendas on the blue economy and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) demand more contextual and applicable biology learning. However, the use of marine biological resources, particularly seaweed, as a pedagogical context in entrepreneurship-oriented biology education remains limited. Therefore, this article aims to review and synthesize research findings related to the integration of seaweed-based food diversification into biology learning as a strategy for strengthening youth entrepreneurship through bioentrepreneurship and ecopreneurship approaches. This study employed a qualitative approach using a narrative review method of reputable national and international articles published between 2015 and 2025. Data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns, novelty, and research gaps. The findings indicate that entrepreneurship-oriented biology learning consistently has a positive impact on improving students’ entrepreneurial self-efficacy, attitudes, and entrepreneurial intentions, particularly through project-based learning models. Seaweed possesses strong biological, ecological, and economic potential to serve as a learning context, especially in sustainable food diversification aligned with the blue economy and the SDGs. This review concludes that integrating seaweed-based food diversification into biology education has the potential to become an innovative pedagogical approach that bridges scientific concept mastery, the strengthening of youth entrepreneurship, and the internalization of sustainability values, while also opening opportunities for future empirical research and instructional model development

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the intertwined threats of plastic and chemical pollution in marine ecosystems and their implications for aquatic food security. Both forms of pollution have become increasingly urgent global concerns, as they threaten biodiversity, ecosystem services, and the safety of seafood consumed by millions of people worldwide. Design/Methodology/Approach: A qualitative, descriptive exploratory research design was applied, combining systematic literature review and semi-structured expert interviews. Data were collected from peer-reviewed journal articles indexed in Scopus, technical reports from international organizations (e.g., FAO, UNEP), and policy documents. Thematic analysis was employed to identify patterns, relationships, and emerging issues concerning plastic chemical interactions and their impact on food safety and security. Findings: The findings highlight that plastic pollution, particularly microplastics and nanoplastics, causes direct physiological stress to marine organisms and serves as a vector for hazardous chemicals such as persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and heavy metals. Chemical pollutants, especially mercury and pesticides, exhibit bioaccumulative and biomagnifying effects along aquatic food webs. The combined exposure amplifies risks, undermines ecosystem stability, and poses potential health hazards for human consumers. This dual threat jeopardizes both marine biodiversity and global food security. Practical Implications: The study emphasizes the urgency of integrated policy responses, including stricter waste management, reduced use of single-use plastics, and stronger regulations on toxic chemicals. It also suggests the need for cross-disciplinary research focusing on realistic co-exposure scenarios, sensitive detection methods for nano microplastics, and risk assessments for seafood safety in diverse socio-ecological contexts. Originality/Value: By addressing the synergistic effects of plastic and chemical pollution, this study contributes to filling a critical gap in the discourse on marine environmental risks. It underscores the multidimensional nature of ocean pollution, ecological, socio-economic, and health-related, while providing insights for policymakers, researchers, and practitioners seeking sustainable solutions to safeguard marine ecosystems and aquatic food security.
