Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out whether or not the used of digital storytelling can improve students’ speaking fluency at SMA Muhammadiyah 9 Makassar. The researcher used a purposive sampling method and took only class XII the sample of the research which consisted of 37 students. In addition the researcher applied an instrument of the research namely oral test. In pre-test and post-tes the researcher gave topics through digital storytelling to stimulate the students to speak in front of the class. In pre-test and pos-test the students one by one to speak face to face with the researcher in the class.Based on the result of the data analysis it was found that the mean score of pre-test was 3.45 and the mean score of post-test 4.54. by applying the level of significance 0.05 with the degreeof fredom (df) = 37 - 1 = 36, it was found that the result of t-test was 10.33 which was greater that t-table value 1.688. It mean that the alternative hypothesis was accepted and Null hypothesis was rejected. It could be conducted that digital storytelling materials was significant effect toward students speaking fluency through asking and answer question.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to identify the implementation of a prediction strategy to improve students' reading comprehension of English recount text and student responses in reading through a prediction strategy. The researcher used pre-experimental research and carried out pre-test, treatment and post-test designs and collected test-based data. The sample was a class VIII.D student at MTs. Negeri Luwu Timur, a total of 28 students in the academic year 2020/2021. This sample was taken randomly by lottery. Variables are dependent and independent variables. The data was analyzed using SPSS. The showed that class VIII.D student pre-test results were of sufficient value. The results of this study were that the mean value obtained by the students through the pre-test was (58,14) while the post-test was observed (82,29) as result, the significant value of the paired sample test is lower than the significant level, i.e. 0.000 <0.05. Then find the value of the table t of 1,673. This is because the t value is 40,616>1,673. From these data, it is shown that the use of the prediction strategy in improving students’ reading comprehension on recount text, it can be concluded from the above data that the student's reading comprehension has been improved by using the prediction strategy as a learning tool and students’ can be active in the learning process through the use of the prediction strategy.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to discover whether or not the theme-based teaching improve students’ vocabulary in speaking skill. This research was in quantitative design. The population of this research was 100 students in MTS Muhammadiyah Lempangan Gowa at VII grade. By applying simple random sampling technique, the sample of this research was 30 students of class VII-A. Research instruments used for collecting the data were pretests and posttest. The research was done in two cycles. The pretest consisted of six questions. The post test 1 consisted of one question with theme “school”. The post test 2 consisted of the similar instruction as the prior test but modified with pictures.  The results of the research showed that the students' vocabulary mastery in speaking skill increased significantly. In pretest, there were only 14 students fulfill the KKM which was 70. The mean score of pretest was 68.3. In cycle 1, the mean score kept improving to 73.05 came from 21 students. In cycle 2, the mean score rose to 79.56  resulted from 24 students. There was 4 student left who did not pass the KKM.

Abstract

Intangible Reward refers to a class of rewards which have no material or monetary value but can keep the employee feeling recognized and motivated (Kharel, 2012). The objective of this research were to describe the types of intangible rewards were given by the teacher in motivating students and to describe the students’ responses to the intangible reward in motivating students. The method of this research was descriptive qualitative method. The subject of this research was the eight grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 12 makassar. The sample of this research was class A that consisted of 20 students. The researcher also interviewed the teacher to gain more information about the effect of intangible rewards for students. The researcher used observation checklist and interview as instrument of collecting the data. Technique of data analysis consisted of data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion /verification. The findings of the research showed that there were two types of rewards used by the teachers motivating students in learning English at the eight grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 12 Makassar. They were; praise/verbal reinforcement and written praise. Verbal praise consisted of good job, i like it, nice, excellent, very good, and written praise consisted of teacher gave grade,mark and positive comment on student’s sheet. The researcher found that intangible rewards gave the positive effects for the students that were; reward created the class more interesting, increased the positive behavior or expected behavior of students in the classroom, made students feel happy and more active participate in class, it can increase the feeling of competition among students in the classroom, and it can encourage the students in completed their task and homework.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to found out whether or not the use of board race language game can improve students’ speaking ability at SMA Negeri 9 Makassar. The researcher used a pre-experimental research as design method and gave pre-test, treatment and post-test. The sample of this research was XI MIA 5 class of SMA Negeri 9 Makassar which consisted of 30 students. The sample was taken by used Purposive Sampling Technique. Based on the result, the mean score of students’ pronunciation and vocabulary before and after the treatment improved. The students’ pronunciation scores from 58.14 to be 84.25 and the students’ vocabulary scores from 57.69 to be 87.29. The differences mean score of pre-test was higher than pre-test. The value of T-test in pronunciation 18.38>2.04 and the value of t-test in vocabulary was 20.57>2.04. The alternative hypothesis is accepted and the null hypothesis is rejected. It means that using of board race games as a teaching technique in teaching speaking can improve students’ speaking ability at eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 9 Makassar in term of accuracy.

Abstract

The purpose based on this research was to find out whether or not the hypercorrection approach reduces the student’s fossilization in English pronunciation at SMA Negeri 7 Selayar. The researcher used a pre-experimental design and quantitative method using one class for a pre-test and post-test.In the 2022–2023 academic year, the population of this study were 32 students of class 10 IPA at SMA Negeri 7 Selayar. To determine the research sample, cluster sampling method is used. The speaking test is used a data collection method.The results show of the study show that the application of the hypercorrection approach can reduce the fossilization of students’ pronunciation in vowels (/i:/, /I/, /e/, /æ/). This is evidenced by using pre-test scores (39.53) and a post-tests score(72.18), which shows that in addition to the test scores, students’ pronunciation in the post-test is higher than the pre-test. (29.10) which is higher based on the t-table value (1.696). As a result, the Null hypothesis was refuted and the alternative hypothesis was adopted. In the study the researcher came to the conclusion that Hypercorrection reduces student’s fossilization of pronunciation.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether or not the dubbing video method can improve students' pronunciation, especially diphthongs in learning English in class XI SMAN 3 Majene. The research method used is quantitative with a pre-experimental design. The researcher gave a pre-test to the students, then the researcher conducted treatment through the dubbing video method, and at the end of the meeting, a post-test was given. The population used in this research were students of class XI at SMAN 3 Majene. The sample of this research was the students of the class XI IPA, which included 26 students using a purposive sampling technique.The results showed that the use of the dubbing video method was significant in improving students' pronunciation, especially diphthongs. This is evidenced by the mean pretest score before treatment of 43.08 and the mean value after being given treatment of 53.46, the percentage increase of 24.09%. After analyzing the results of the pre-test and post-test data, the researcher found that the pronunciation value of the p-value (0.000) is smaller than α (0.05). It was concluded that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. That means there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test. Therefore, it can be concluded that the application of the dubbing video method in the learning process provides an increase in pronunciation for students.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not the use of the Drilling Communication Technique as a medium was effective in teaching students' pronunciation in the eleventh grade (SMA Negeri 19 Gowa in the academic year 2021/2022). This study used a pre-experimental design with pre-test and post-test designs. The comparison of pre-test and post-test scores is determined by the treatment outcome. The test was administered twice, once before and once after treatments or the teaching and learning process, using a recording tool.Based on the results of the study, the results of the data showed that there was a significant difference between the post-test and pre-test of students in the pre-experimental class. This increase is evidenced by the pre-test and post-test scores. From the post-test, the researcher found that the mean scores (72.88) were greater than the pre-test mean (46.22). It shows that there is a significant difference between the students' pre-test and post-test scores. According to the study's findings, Drilling Communication Technique could help students pronounce SMA Negeri 19 Gowa more accurately.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the purpose of the study, namely to describe Teachers’ strategies to develop students’ cognitive domain SMPN 33 Sinjai. The subjects in this study were two teachers and six students of SMPN 33 Sinjai. The purpose of this study is to find out the English teacher strategies to develop students’ cognitive domains and to find out the students’ responses toward the strategies implemented by teachers in developing cognitive domains. The instruments used to collect data are observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis in this study is Analysis (QDA), Data Reduction, and Data Display.The results showed that the English teachers' strategies to develop students’ cognitive domain consisted of two strategies, namely the first is simple repetition, the second is using games to get students interested and the students’ responses toward the strategies implemented by the teacher is developing cognitive domains, namely the student response to the simple repetition strategy and the student response using games to get students interested.
