Abstract

This study aims to examine how cultural awareness is represented in Indonesian secondary school EFL textbooks. Cultural awareness forms essential component of intercultural communicative competence, and textbooks serve as primary sources shaping learners’ exposure to cultural perspectives. Depth and orientation of such representation require systematic investigation. The study employs descriptive qualitative design using qualitative content analysis. Corpus consists of three nationally aligned secondary school EFL textbooks at grade seven, eight, and nine levels. Unit of analysis includes reading texts, dialogues, visual images, and learning activities. Cultural awareness is analyzed through five categories: self-cultural awareness, awareness of other cultures, critical cultural reflection, cultural values and norms, and representational bias. Data are coded and examined to identify forms and structural patterns of representation. Findings show that cultural awareness is constructed mainly through descriptive presentation of local identity and selective exposure to foreign contexts. Narrative texts and visuals emphasize shared practices and socially endorsed norms. Foreign cultures appear predominantly through English speaking references with limited regional diversity. Reflective tasks are present but remain peripheral and largely restricted to surface comparison. Cultural awareness functions primarily as structured knowledge embedded in language themes rather than as sustained intercultural inquiry. Representational framing and pedagogical sequencing shape depth of engagement. Inclusion of cultural content alone does not ensure critical intercultural development.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the role of male teachers in instilling discipline in early childhood. The focus of the research is the strategy of instilling discipline in early childhood carried out by male teachers. This research uses a qualitative approach with research subjects being male teachers at RA Ar Rohmah, Cawas District, Klaten Regency. This research uses data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis uses Miles and Huberman's interactive model analysis techniques (data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions). Test the validity of the data using triangulation of data sources and techniques. The research results show that male teachers can accustom children to discipline in worship and related self-control abilities, such as: queuing, taking turns playing, etc. The obstacles experienced were the discontinuity of getting used to it at home and at school and the teacher's lack of attention because he was too busy with his workload. So, it is hoped that schools can invite parents to instill discipline in their children from an early age.

Abstract

Environmental problems such as pollution, waste accumulation, and low hygiene behavior indicate the importance of integrating environmental education with moral education since the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah level. The purpose of this study is to analyze the implementation of the Adiwiyata Program in building the values of responsibility, discipline, and religiousness through environmental health activities, cleanliness, and waste management as a means of character building for students. This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological type. The research subjects include the Madrasah Principal, the Adiwiyata team, teachers, and students. Data collection in this study was carried out through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, while data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Data validity was strengthened through source purposive sampling. The results of the study show that hygiene habits are carried out through class and prayer room duty, routine community service, garden maintenance, maintaining the cleanliness of 2 toilets, namely teachers and students, and the habit of saving water and electricity. Waste management based on 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) through sorting organic and inorganic waste, making compost, and utilizing used goods as learning media. The values of responsibility, discipline, and religion are internalized through duty duty, compliance with regulations, manners to teachers, greeting guests, and the use of ablution water to water plants gradually from grades 1 to 6. The Adiwiyata program has proven to function as a means of contextual and sustainable moral education.
