Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Effective leadership has emerged as a crucial focus within the framework of Merdeka Belajar, a policy that enhances the capacity of educational institutions to innovate and respond to the specific needs of their local communities. The influence of leadership on educational outcomes is profound, affecting both educator performance and the institution's overall effectiveness. A principal who exemplifies strong leadership can significantly enhance teacher effectiveness and improve student achievement. This research seeks to analyze the differing leadership styles of principals in public versus private elementary schools during the Merdeka Belajar initiative. Employing a comparative methodology, the study gathers data through interviews, questionnaires, and observations involving principals, teachers, and staff from both sectors. Findings indicate that public schools generally adopt a transactional leadership approach, whereas private schools are more inclined towards transformational leadership. The study aims to offer valuable insights, suggesting that both public and private institutions should embrace a more adaptable leadership style. In public schools, it is recommended that principals foster a culture of innovation and actively seek input from diverse stakeholders, thereby creating a more collaborative environment for teachers and students alike.

Abstract

Abstract The purpose of this research is to explain the beginning reading problems faced by students in grade 1 elementary school and identify the factors that contribute to these problems. This research is qualitative and uses descriptive methods. This research uses observation, interviews and documentation to collect data. The research subjects were teachers and first grade students. Data was collected through observation and interviews. Thematic analysis utilizes triangulation. The results showed that students in grade 1 of elementary school initially experienced reading difficulties because they had difficulty reading consonant combinations, distinguishing almost identical letters, and reading fluently. Difficulty starting early reading is caused by a number of factors. These include poor initial cognitive abilities, students' decreased interest in starting to read, students' lack of motivation to do so, and lack of parental attention. So it can be said that class I students at SDN Bringinbendo 2 still have difficulty starting to read. It is anticipated that this research will have implications for increasing students' early reading challenges.

Abstract

This study aims to identify evidence-based differentiated instruction (DI) strategies that enhance reading comprehension in elementary education. The research employed a systematic literature review following the PRISMA guidelines. A total of 16 empirical studies published between 2020 and 2025 were retrieved from the Scopus database based on their relevance and methodological rigor. The data were analyzed using qualitative thematic analysis and cross-study comparison to identify effective strategies and patterns of implementation. The findings indicate that differentiated instruction consistently improves reading comprehension outcomes, with reported gains ranging from 10% to 44%. Effective strategies include tiered instruction, flexible grouping, content–process–product differentiation, and technology-supported approaches. Instructional models such as identification–reflection–improvement cycles and Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) demonstrated particularly strong effectiveness. Successful implementation was associated with continuous assessment practices, teacher preparedness, and access to differentiated instructional resources. In conclusion, this review confirms that differentiated instruction provides an effective framework for addressing diverse learner needs and improving reading comprehension outcomes in elementary classrooms.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of interactive flipbook media in enhancing elementary school students’ reading interest. A systematic literature review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Relevant studies were retrieved from Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, Google Scholar, and Consensus AI databases. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical synthesis and thematic analysis to identify implementation patterns and student outcomes. The results indicate that interactive flipbook media consistently produces significant positive effects on students’ reading interest, with reported improvements ranging from 11% to 32% across studies. The media is particularly effective in enhancing visual literacy, digital literacy, and cultural appreciation, alongside traditional reading skills. However, several implementation challenges were identified as barriers to widespread adoption. This review concludes that interactive flipbooks represent a promising pedagogical tool for elementary education. Successful implementation, however, requires adequate technological infrastructure, comprehensive teacher training, and further research across diverse educational contexts and subject areas.
