Abstract

This study investigates the use of TikTok as a tool to enhance digital literacy in elementary school students. Using a one-group posttest-only design and incorporating the RADEC (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, Create) model, the research explored how students transformed their understanding of the topic "Changes in the State of Matter" into creative video content. The study found that TikToksignificantly improved students' understanding, retention, and engagement with the material, while also increasing their motivation and confidence. The structured learning process, guided by the RADEC model, integrated critical thinking and creativity, supporting the development of digital literacy skills. By creating and sharing TikTok videos, students were able to actively engage with the content in ways that traditional methods might not support. The findings suggest that TikTok can be a highly effective educational tool in primary education when used responsibly. This research highlights TikTok’s potential as an innovative educational tool that can enhance engagement and support digital literacy in elementary education

Abstract

This study aims to describe the profile of fifth-grade elementary students’ reading comprehension in narrative texts based on four dimensions of Barrett’s taxonomy: literal, reorganization, inferential, and evaluative–appreciative comprehension. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed and supported by qualitative data. The research subjects consisted of 28 elementary school students. Quantitative data were collected through reading comprehension tests, while qualitative data were obtained from classroom observations, teacher interviews, and analysis of Indonesian language teaching modules. The data analysis technique used was Miles and Huberman with data analysis components, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that, in general, students' reading comprehension skills are still moderate to low. Of all participants, no students achieved the excellent category, while 21.4% were in the good category, 21.4% in the fair category, and the rest (57.2%) were still in the poor to very poor category. The highest achievement was seen in the literal aspect, which indicates that students are relatively able to recognize the information expressed in the text. However, in the reorganization, inferential, and evaluative appreciative aspects, most students showed difficulty in rearranging the plot, drawing implied meanings, and critically and reflectively assessing the content of the reading. These results indicate the need to apply more interactive and contextual learning strategies and media to improve the ability to understand the content of reading comprehensively

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability of fourth-grade elementary school students to write narrative texts. Many students still have difficulty expressing ideas or themes, structuring a coherent flow, determining characters and settings, and choosing language styles that comply with Indonesian grammar rules. The learning activity process applies a conventional learning model with the lecture method, and the teaching materials used by the teacher are limited to school textbooks. This condition is one of the causes and obstacles for students in developing their imagination and creativity during the writing process. Based on these issues, this research aims to analyze the need for an Ethno-Steam-based learning module to improve the narrative text writing skills of fourth-grade elementary school students. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE method. However, this research is only limited to the Analysis stage. Research data was obtained from interviews, analysis of teaching material documents, and initial observations of learning implementation. The analysis results show that a learning module with an Ethno-Steam approach is highly needed to improve the narrative text writing ability of fourth-grade elementary school students.

Abstract

The rapid advance of globalization has compelled elementary school teachers to continuously adapt to diverse challenges in fostering cultural and civic literacy. This study aims to map the variation of challenges and teaching practices among elementary teachers in Sumedang Regency, focusing on territorial characteristics. Employing an explanatory sequential mixed-method design, the research integrates quantitative data from Likert-scale surveys and qualitative insights from thematic analysis of open-ended responses, collected from 40 teachers in urban, rural, and suburban schools with varying teaching experience. Statistical and thematic analyses reveal notable differences in both the challenges and strategies encountered, influenced by school location and professional seniority. Teachers in urban schools and those with seniority reported greater complexity but demonstrated greater innovation, while teachers in rural and suburban settings faced more limitations in contextual cultural materials, digital access, and parental engagement. Novice teachers expressed a significant need for structured training and school support. Qualitative results highlight key barriers: inadequate cultural materials, limited professional development, diminished student motivation, and time constraints. These findings underscore the imperative for locally grounded resource development and professional training tailored to both territorial and experiential needs to effectively improve cultural and civic literacy at the primary level.

Abstract

Students show that they often cannot apply mathematical knowledge in other fields directly and the teaching and learning activities that occur are dominated by conventional learning, focusing on one-way knowledge transfer from teachers to students, this kind of learning is no longer adequate to meet the demands of the modern era. This article aims to analyze and understand the implementation of numeracy literacy learning at the elementary school level using a deep learning approach to make learning more personal and in-depth. This study uses a qualitative method using data collection techniques with interviews, questionnaires, and literature studies, and data analysis is carried out using analysis techniques according to Miles and Huberman. The data obtained will be subjected to data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification. This study shows that students have an awareness in the use of numbers and symbols, analytical and problem-solving practices, the relevance of learning to everyday life, enjoyable learning experiences, and a positive atmosphere that encourages active involvement.

Abstract

Low initial reading skills are an indication of low student literacy. This research aims to analyze the early reading skills of Phase A students, which includes grades 1 and 2 of elementary school. The research used a descriptive qualitative method, involving 122 students from two elementary schools in Garut Regency, aged 6 to 8 years old. The instrument used in this study was the Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) reading test. The results of the study showed that 68% of students in Phase A had early reading skills in the category of needing guidance. Meanwhile, 6.6% of students were in the sufficient category, and 25.4% were in the good category. Based on EGRA indicators, letter recognition ability has a percentage of 55.15%, syllable reading ability 48.76%, word reading 41.49%, listening comprehension 34.44%, fluency 31.87%, and reading comprehension 16.53%. Thru analysis of the implementation of the EGRA test, students' reading abilities can be mapped more deeply, allowing teachers to take further action appropriate to the needs of each student. This finding is expected to serve as a basis for schools to design more effective learning strategies to improve student literacy in elementary schools.

Abstract

Financial habits and attitudes formed during elementary school have a long-term impact on an individual’s financial well-being. This study aims to determine how the family environment and school learning influence financial literacy among elementary school students, focusing on three dimensions: knowledge, attitudes, and behavior. A quantitative, survey-based approach was used, involving 410 elementary school students from various schools in Lembang District, West Bandung Regency. Data analysis was conducted using linear regression. The results indicate that the family environment and school learning are significant predictors of students’ financial literacy, with a combined contribution of 12.1% to the variance. Notably, school learning demonstrated a stronger influence, suggesting that structured financial education in the classroom plays a significant role alongside family socialization. These findings highlight the need for integrated financial literacy programs involving teachers and parents, offering practical effectiveness for early financial education curriculum and policy development in Indonesia.
