Abstract

The human body consists of four components at the molecular level: water, fat, protein and minerals. As we age, there can be an increase in fat mass and a decrease in muscle mass. A high proportion of body fat has a greater risk of cardiovascular disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes, several types of cancer, and premature death. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease characterised by increased blood sugar levels due to impaired insulin metabolism. Uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus can result in significant complications such as cardiovascular disease, diabetic nephropathy (kidneys), diabetic retinopathy (eyes), neuropathy (nerves), and impaired wound healing. Hyperuricemia is an increase in uric acid levels above normal values. Hyperuricemia can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, and kidney stones. We conducted this early detection activity at Kalam Kudus Middle School, where the average age of the participants was 39 years. Based on the examination results, the average results for blood sugar levels, uric acid, total body fat, total body subcutaneous fat, visceral fat, and total body muscle mass were each 90 mg/dL; 4.9 mg/dL; 33.5%; 27.4%; 9%; and 24.8%. Through this activity, participants can understand the risk factors for metabolic diseases such as diabetes, hyperuremia and obesity, especially their impact on health status problems. We expect this activity to significantly improve the health and quality of life of participants.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Low albumin and vitamin D levels in the elderly are often due to factors such as malnutrition, inflammation, and illness. A deficiency in albumin can affect the availability of vitamin D because it binds to albumin. Maintaining normal levels of albumin and vitamin D in the elderly has positive impacts on nutrition, healing, infection prevention, and metabolic function. This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the relationship between vitamin D levels and albumin levels in the elderly. It was conducted at Santa Anna Elderly Care Home in November 2023. The variables in this study were vitamin D levels and albumin levels. Statistical analysis was performed using the Mann-Whitney test. Out of 47 respondents, the average age was 77.55 years. Mann-Whitney test results indicated no significant relationship between 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels and albumin levels in blood serum (p-value: 0.770). The correlation between these two variables showed a negative correlation, meaning that lower levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D were associated with higher albumin levels. This is interesting because it contradicts the research hypothesis, suggesting that albumin levels may be influenced by factors outside the variables being studied. The correlation result of 0.044 falls into the category of very weak and cannot be considered a determining variable between two variables. Further analysis using the Mann-Whitney test revealed that there was no significant relationship or difference in mean values between 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels in the hypoalbuminemia and normal groups (p-value: 0.919), and there was no significant relationship or difference in mean values between albumin levels in the vitamin D deficiency and normal groups.

Abstract

Frailty is a common syndrome in older adults, marked by declining physiological reserves and increased vulnerability to adverse health outcomes. It impacts quality of life and links to higher morbidity, mortality, and healthcare needs. Identifying frailty markers early helps prevent or delay its onset. In Indonesia, frailty affects 10–20% of the elderly, with higher rates in rural areas and those over 75, driven by poor nutrition, chronic diseases, and limited healthcare access. This study explores these factors and their relationship with frailty in elderly residents of Bina Bhakti Elderly Home. This cross-sectional study analyzed anthropometric measurement, uric acid, vitamin D, albumin, and diabetes mellitus with frailty in 42 elderly residents, excluding those with cognitive impairments, acute illnesses, or psychiatric disorders. The analysis identified fasting blood glucose, HbA1c, and albumin as significant predictors of frailty, highlighting the importance of glucose regulation and nutritional status in frailty risk among the studied population. Fasting blood glucose, HbA1c, and albumin emerged as key predictors of frailty, highlighting the roles of glycemic control and nutritional health in reducing frailty risk. Lower fasting blood glucose and higher albumin levels were protective, while higher HbA1c increased vulnerability. Targeted interventions in these areas may effectively mitigate frailty risk.

Abstract

Hyperuricemia is a pathophysiological condition associated with chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, and cardiovascular and renal diseases. Hyperuricemia is related to lifestyle. Elevated serum uric acid levels can be a marker for metabolic syndrome which generally occurs in adults. So far it is not known what the prevalence of hyperuremia and obesity is among members of the Kodim XXX team and adults of productive age in West Jakarta. Promotion of healthy lifestyles and prevention of disease are fundamental principles behind public health and improving public health. Measuring uric acid levels can prevent acute attacks of gout. Anthropometry is a measurement method used to assess the size, proportions and composition of the human body. The results of anthropometric measurements can be used to assess nutritional status. The target of this activity is the XXX Kodim Team and the adult community of productive age in West Jakarta. The aim of this service is to obtain an overview of uric acid and nutritional status in the Kodim XXX team and adults of productive age so that they can prevent the occurrence of metabolic syndrome in the future.
