Abstract

This study aims to find out about the effect of mathematical anxiety on mathematical reasoning ability. The research method used for this research is quantitative survey research at SMKN 15 Bekasi City and SMK Global Teknologi for the 2021/2022 academic year. The sample used was 100 students consisting of class X with data collection techniques using simple random sampling. Data collection was carried out using questionnaire dissemination and question tests. This research was conducted in April - August 2022. The results revealed that based on the test obtained Fcalculate = 10.6107 and Ftabel = 3.94 with a significant level of ∝ = 0.05. Because Fcalculate > Ftable, H0 is rejected which means that there is an influence between mathematical anxiety and mathematical reasoning ability.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop the design of mathematics learning in grade V elementary school. The design of the learning is expected to facilitate mathematics learning for grade V students. The steps used are ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluate). After going through these steps, a learning media in the form of an Uno Mathematics card game was formed. The development of U-MATH (Uno Mathematics) card game media is a modification of the Uno card game. U-MATH card game media is one of the developments of visual-based print media because the media produced through the printing process produces text, graphics, and photos or images displayed on the card. The media consists of 5 chapters consisting of Integer Counting Operations, Fractions, Unit of Measurement, Flat Build, and Simple Space Build. With this teaching material that has been made, it is expected to facilitate students in the process of learning mathematics. In addition, it is able to assist teachers in achieving math learning objective.

Abstract

Background: This research aims to develop audio-visual media-based tools on the subject of protein synthesis. Methods: The study design based on the analysis of some of biology material’s characteristic that difficult, rote, and abstract. Data collection was carried out with interviews, questionnaires, and formative tests. Results: Learning tools based on audio-visual media have been successfully developed and obtained as a feasible learning media for learning grade 12 biology. This learning tool was developed with several stages including: needs analysis, selection of materials and tools used to develop media, validation from experts, media improvement based on experts' suggestions and input, and dissemination of media developed by researchers. From the tests conducted by researchers, learning devices based on audio-visual media are very feasible to use. This is based on the overall average of the evaluation results of the four learning devices from the evaluation results by material experts, media experts, and development trials obtained an average score of 94% of the maximum score of 100% so that audio-visual media-based learning devices on the subject of protein synthesis are in the very feasible category. Conclusion: This shows that learning devices based on audio-visual media on the subject of protein synthesis are very feasible to use in learning biology grade 12 SMA. Abstract

This study aims to analyze and determine the effect of applying the contextual approach in improving the ability of calculation operations in students with learning delays. This study uses a quantitative approach with a single-subject experiment method, often called Single Subject Research (SSR), with an A-B-A design. The subject of this study is grade VIII students at SMP Islam Mandiri. The data collection technique in this study was carried out using observation and a test of computational operation ability. The results of the baseline-1 phase showed a stable score and increased when the treatment was carried out in the intervention phase; after the treatment was carried out, the research subjects were then given a test in the baseline-2 phase, and the results obtained increased with a score of 100 in each session. The percentage overlap of the three phases is at the level of 0%. Thus, the results show that applying the contextual approach positively improves the ability to calculate operations in students with learning delays.

Abstract

The application of instructional strategy must consider the characteristics and students' culture to get an optimal learning result. The Indonesian character is to be based on this strategy and not finish the task well if there is no compulsion or punishment. This character is a background of purpose tasks and forced instructional strategy. This strategy emphasised a routine task and a plan for the students, noticing the deadline for finishing the task and the punishment if the task is not finished well. This strategy can be an alternative strategy to increase learning quality, especially to develop the student's awareness about how studying is important for them.

Abstract

Mathematics plays a crucial role in the 21st century because it emphasises logical and systematic problem-solving processes. This research evaluated the implementation of 21st-century skills in general mathematics instruction and the mathematics performance of the Cebu Technological University San Francisco Campus students for the Academic Year 2022-2023. The study employed a descriptive-correlational research design, utilising researcher-modified questionnaires anchored from the P21 framework, which were pilot-tested, expert-reviewed, and validated. It involved 203 students and perceived a very satisfactory implementation of the 21st-century skills of critical thinking, communication, problem-solving, collaboration, and perseverance in general mathematics instruction. Also, it assessed the students' mathematics performance using a 30-item multiple choice test and found poor performance in all six topics. The study found a weak but statistically significant relationship between the implementation of 21st-century skills and mathematics performance. Among the skills, collaboration showed the strongest positive relationship with mathematics performance, followed by communication, perseverance, and critical thinking. Surprisingly, problem-solving did not demonstrate a significant relationship, suggesting that other factors may also influence performance. The findings emphasise the importance of these skills in improving mathematics performance and provide a foundation for the development of a contextualised self-learning module in general mathematics. Further research is recommended to validate these findings.

Abstract

Mobile applications like GeoGebra are crucial for learning algebraic function graphing among college students. This application provides interactive visual aids that improve comprehension and memory of complex ideas relating to graphing of algebraic functions. It aimed to determine the effects of GeoGebra software in smartphones on education students' attitudes, motivation, and performance in College Algebra at a technological state university in Cebu City, Philippines. The participants were 80 students [40 students in the control group and 40 in the experimental group] who were chosen using purposive sampling. The quasi-experimental method used three questionnaires (Fennema-Sherman Mathematics Attitude Scales, Mathematics Motivation Questionnaire, and Students' Algebra Performance). The data were treated using frequency, mean, standard deviation, Pearson r, and paired t-test. The study revealed that students' attitudes and motivations toward algebra do not have significant relationships with their pretest and posttest performances in graphing algebraic functions. However, there is a substantial difference between the students' posttest means scores in Algebra of the control and experimental groups. The study concluded that students' attitudes toward algebra improved when using GeoGebra software to learn graphing of algebraic functions. The researcher recommends integrating GeoGebra software into Algebra's curriculum to enhance students' performance in graphing algebraic functions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the application of School-Based Management (SBM) in improving technologyusing ChatGPT-based mathematics learning in Junior High Schools (SMP). This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design, which involves observation, interviews, and documentation to collect data from several junior high schools that apply SBM in mathematics learning. The collected data was analysed using thematic analysis techniques to identify patterns that emerged related to the application of SBM and technology in the learning process. The results show that applying SBM can increase the use of technology in mathematics learning, which contributes to improving the quality of learning. The contribution of this research is to provide new insights into the role of SBM in optimising the use of technologyusing ChatGPTto enhance the quality of mathematics learning in junior high schools.
