Abstract

Maternal mortality and stunting remain major public health challenges in Indonesia, largely due to limited early detection of pregnancy complications and low maternal health literacy during the First 1000 Days of Life. Strengthening maternal knowledge through structured education is essential to improve pregnancy outcomes. This community service program aimed to enhance pregnant women’s knowledge of pregnancy danger signs, completion of six antenatal care (ANC) visits, anemia prevention, balanced nutrition, and early stunting prevention. A community-based participatory approach using a service-learning model was implemented among 39 pregnant women at Pauh Primary Health Center, Padang. Educational activities were conducted through interactive lectures, group discussions, and question-and-answer sessions. Knowledge was assessed using pre-test and post-test instruments and analyzed with a paired t-test. The results showed a significant increase in mean knowledge scores from 77.98 ± 16.26 to 86.60 ± 11.18 (p = 0.0002). The proportion of participants with “good” knowledge increased from 66.6% to 76.6%, while those with “poor” knowledge decreased substantially. These findings indicate that interactive and structured maternal health education effectively improves understanding of pregnancy complications and stunting prevention. Continuous implementation through routine maternal classes and stronger family involvement is recommended to sustain behavioral changes and improve maternal and child health outcomes.

Abstract

Abstract

Premature rupture of membrane (PROM) is one of the abnormalities found in pregnancy. The results find out that Lactobacillus is associated with the reduced risk of premature rupture of membrane (PROM), while Gardnerella, Prevotella, Megasphaera, Ureaplasma and Dialister are associated with the increase risk of PROM. Gardnerella vaginalis, a facultative anaerobic bacterium, is the most common microbe associated with bacterial vaginosis (BV).The research used cross sectional research design with retrospective data collection method. The research included all vaginal swab samples from pregnant women with premature rupture of membranes at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil, Padang. The sampling technique used was consecutive sampling, with 31 samples from pregnant women who experienced premature rupture of membranes, complemented with data from electronic/manual medical records. Clinical data collected included complaints such as vaginal discharge. The microbes that cause bacterial vaginosis were examined using Real-Time PCR at the PDRPI Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Andalas. Data then were analyzed using the chi-square test, followed by calculation of the Odds Ratio (OR).he results showed no significant association between the presence of G. Vaginalis and vaginal discharge (p = 0.384; OR = 2.67), Based on the analysis, most bacterial vaginosis infections occurred without the evident of clinical manifestations (asymptomatic) which caused to delayed diagnosis and an increased likelihood of cases being inadequately managed. The conclusion of this research shows that there is no significant association between microbes of bacterial vaginosis and manifestation of vaginal discharge in pregnant women. Antenatal care (ANC) interventions should include the development of a routine vaginal infection screening system within ANC services. Keywords: Gardnerella vaginalis, Bacterial Vaginosis, Pregnant Women

Abstract

Antenatal care (ANC) refers to the care provided to mothers and their unborn babies during pregnancy. ANC visits are essential, as they allow for the early provision of important information and education regarding pregnancy and childbirth preparation. Objective to identify the factors influencing pregnant women's compliance with the minimum standard pregnancy examinations in the Deli Serdang District Health Office, North Sumatra. This study used a quantitative and cross-sectional approach, involving 138 pregnant using puposive sampling women from four community health centers under the Deli Serdang District Health Office, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using the McNemar, Chi-square, and multiple logistic regression tests The results of the study showed that factors influencing compliance with the minimum standard pregnancy examinations included the mother's last education level, gestational age, transportation, travel time, ANC visit frequency, media exposure, knowledge, and attitude, with a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05. The most dominant factor affecting compliance with ANC visits was the type of transportation used (p-value = 0.039). Education level, gestational age, transportation, travel time, ANC visit frequency, media exposure, knowledge, and attitude all influence compliance with ANC. Pregnant women should improve their attitude and motivation to seek information about healthy pregnancy using easier access, such as e-books or web links that can be read anytime and anywhere. In today's digital era, this can help increase awareness and knowledge about the importance of ANC, ultimately improving ANC coverage (K1-K4) and reducing maternal mortality rates.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Preeclampsia is still a major cause of morbidity and mortality in pregnant women. Neutrophil gelatinase–associated lipocalin (NGAL) is a better biomarker than creatinine as a biomarker of kidney disorders and is considered as an accurate early predictor of preeclampsia. However, the results of studies related to this still vary Objective: To determine the differences in neutrophil gelatinase associated lipocalin (NGAL) expression in normal pregnancy, early-onset preeclampsia (EOP) and late-onset preeclampsia (LOP). Methods: This is a cross-sectional study conducted from April 2024 to June 2025. The samples were all pregnant women aged ≥20 weeks who came to the Obstetrics Department at Dr. M. Djamil General Hospital, Andalas University Hospital and dr. Reksodiwiryo Hospital in Padang City who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Patients with a history of malignancy, infection, premature rupture of membranes, or having comorbidities were excluded from the study. Patients were divided into normal pregnancy, EOP and LOP. Examination of NGAL levels from venous blood samples was carried out using the ELISA. Results: In this study, there were 12 normal pregnancies, 13 EOP pregnancies and 11 LOP pregnancies. Each group of pregnant women had almost similar characteristics with an average age of 31 years and the majority of patients being multiparous, obese, having a high school education and being housewives. In this study, NGAL levels were 2.45 ± 0.73 ng/ml; 3.61 ± 1.12 ng/ml; and 3.63 ± 1.12 in normal pregnancies, EOP, and LOP, respectively. The ANOVA test obtained p value of 0.01, which means that there is a significant difference in NGAL expression between normal pregnancies, EOP and LOP. The post hoc test obtained significant differences between NGAL level of normal pregnancy with EOP (p = 0.021) and normal pregnancy with LOP (p = 0.027), but not in NGAL expression between EOP with LOP (p = 1,000). Conclusion: Differences in NGAL expression were found to be significant between normal pregnancy and EOP and LOP. Meanwhile, there was no difference in NGAL expression between EOP and LOP.

Abstract

Cakupan ASI eksklusif di wilayah Puskesmas Air Dingin sangat rendah (31,5%), sejalan dengan tingginyamasalah gizi balita setempat. Beban ganda (double burden) ibu bekerja menjadi tantangan utama dalammempertahankan laktasi.
