Abstract

Background: Type II Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder often accompanied by blood glucose instability, increasing the risk of long-term complications. Non-pharmacological interventions such as foot exercise therapy offer a complementary approach to blood sugar control. Objectives: The study was to evaluate the effectiveness of non-pharmacological foot exercise therapy in enhancing blood sugar control in Type II DM patients. Design: This qualitative case study involved two patients with Type II DM who experienced unstable blood glucose levels at the Sedap Malam Room, RSI Nashrul Ummah Lamongan. Nursing care included implementing diabetic foot exercise therapy performed once daily for three consecutive days. Blood glucose levels were measured before and after the intervention using a glucometer. Data were analyzed descriptively. Results: Both patients demonstrated a reduction in blood glucose levels. Patient 1's blood glucose decreased from 244 mg/dl to 181 mg/dl, while Patient 2's dropped from 265 mg/dl to 160 mg/dl. Additional outcomes included reduced fatigue and improved self-management awareness. Conclusion: Non-pharmacological foot exercise therapy effectively lowered blood glucose levels in Type II DM patients. This therapy can serve as a supportive nursing intervention to enhance glycemic control, minimize complications, and improve patient quality of life.

Abstract

Background: Menarche represents a critical developmental milestone in the lives of young girls, often accompanied by a range of emotional responses influenced by the level of knowledge and preparedness. Inadequate preparation and prevalent misconceptions may contribute to heightened anxiety and suboptimal menstrual hygiene practices, particularly in low- and middle-income settings. Objective: This study aimed to compare the levels of knowledge and readiness for menarche among primary school girls residing in two contrasting geographic contexts: a provincial buffer zone and a tourist region. Methods: A comparative research design was utilized, involving a sample of 184 female students from grades 5 and 6 enrolled in schools located in the buffer zone of a provincial capital and in designated tourist areas. Data were collected using structured questionnaires adapted from validated instruments to assess knowledge and readiness for menarche. Spearman's Rho correlation test was applied to analyze the association between knowledge and readiness, while independent samples t-tests were used to compare the mean differences between the two groups. Results: The findings revealed a strong positive correlation between knowledge and readiness in Sidoarjo Regency (r = .788, p < .001) and a moderate positive correlation in Malang City (r = .505, p < .001). Although several students demonstrated adequate knowledge, notable gaps in readiness—particularly in Malang—highlight the influence of additional factors such as socio-cultural norms and the availability of practical support systems. Conclusion: While increasing knowledge about menarche is vital to improving readiness, effective menstrual health management (MHM) necessitates comprehensive educational strategies and the provision of supportive infrastructure. The study underscores the importance of initiating early, culturally responsive menstrual education and ensuring adequate school facilities to foster positive health behaviors and diminish menstrual-related stigma. Abstract

Background: Scabies is a highly contagious skin disease frequently found in communal environments, including Islamic elementary schools. Limited health literacy and poor hygiene practices among students contribute to its continued spread. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the relationship between health literacy, hygiene practices, and scabies prevention behaviors among Islamic elementary school students. Methods: A cross-sectional analytic study was conducted involving 50 students at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) Miftahul Ulum Blaban, Pamekasan, East Java. Data were collected using structured questionnaires assessing health literacy, hygiene practices, and scabies prevention behaviors. Spearman’s rank-order correlation was used to analyze the relationship between variables, with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: The majority of students (60%) demonstrated poor hygiene behavior, and 40% had low health literacy. A significant positive correlation was found between health literacy and scabies prevention (r = 0.479, p < 0.001), as well as between hygiene practices and scabies prevention (r = 0.455, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Higher levels of health literacy and improved hygiene practices are associated with better scabies prevention behaviors among Islamic elementary school students. Strengthening school-based health education is essential to reduce the incidence of scabies in similar educational environments.

Abstract

This community-based program aimed to promote healthy lifestyles among elderly populations through an integrated approach combining health education and family support. The intervention was implemented at the Mojoagung Primary Health Center, Jombang Regency, East Java, Indonesia, during October 2025. A total of 40 elderly participants and 40 family members joined a two-week program consisting of group education sessions, family support meetings, and home visits facilitated by health cadres and nursing students. Evaluation included pre- and post-assessments of knowledge, attitudes, and healthy behavior practices. Results showed a 22 % increase in knowledge scores, a 28 % rise in self-reported healthy behaviors, and a 72 % improvement in caregivers’ competence, exceeding targeted outcomes. Attendance rates among elderly participants and caregivers reached 85 % and 74 %, respectively, with 92 % program fidelity. Participants reported high satisfaction and perceived relevance of the program. These findings suggest that integrating health education with structured family support effectively enhances health literacy, behavioral adherence, and caregiving competence among older adults. The approach demonstrates feasibility and acceptability within Indonesia’s community-based primary healthcare system, emphasizing the importance of family engagement in promoting healthy ageing. Further studies with larger samples and extended follow-up periods are recommended to assess long-term sustainability and clinical impacts of this model.
