Abstract

The aims of this research is to find out whether or not the Applying Fact Reason Elaboration Shift (FRESH) Technique can develope the student’s skill to write descriptive text. This research applied a quasi-experimental research design that involved experimental group and control group. The sample of this research was 48 student’s, which were divided into 26 students of class Xl E as the experimental group and 22 student’s of class XI D as the control group. The sample was selected by using clusters technique. The data was collected by administering a writing test consisting of a pre-test and post-test. Then the treatment was only given to the experimental group. The result of the pre-test shows that the mean score of the experimental group is 29.8 while the mean score of the control group is 40.8. This demonstrated that the pre-test mean score of the experimental group were lower compared to the control group. After conducting the treatment, the result of the post-test shows that the mean score of the experimental group is 75.13 while the mean score of the control group is 65.5. It indicates that the experimental group has shown improvement in their writing skill compared to the control group. By applying 46 degree of freedom (df) and 0.05 level of significance, it can be seen that the (3.76) is higher than the (2.021). It means that the research hypothesis is accepted. In conclusion, that the Applying Fact Reason Elaboration Shift (FRESH) Technique can develope the student’s writing skill to the elevent grade of SMAN Model Terpadu Madani

Abstract

Proses pembelajaran yang berkualitas merupakan bagian integral di sekolah. Guru mata pelajaran dituntut untuk merencanakan dan menggunakan model atau metode pembelajaran yang inovatif. Penggunaan model atau metode pembelajaran inovatif oleh guru di sekolah belum optimal karena berbagai alasan. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat (PkM) ini adalah untuk melatih dan meningkatkan kemampuan guru dalam merencanakan dan menggunakan Problem-Based Learning (PBL) di SMK 1 Muhammadiyah Palu. Sejumlah tahapan dan kegiatan yang telah dilakukan meliputi Presentasi, Kerja Kelompok (Group Work), Pendampingan Terbimbing, dan Evaluasi. Data yang telah diolah secara kuantitatif dan kualitatif untuk mengukur tingkat kemampuan peserta dalam merencanakan dan menggunakan PBL dalam proses pembelajaran oleh guru mata pelajaran di SMK 1 Muhammadiyah Palu. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata untuk produk RPP/Modul Ajar, yaitu 3,83 atau dalam kategori Sangat Baik. Selain itu, hasil angket memperlihatkan respons yang positif terhadap kegiatan pendampingan ini. Dengan demikian, pelatihan dalam menggunakan PBL ini telah membantu para guru dalam menyusun RPP/Modul Ajar dan melaksanakan pembelajaran yang inovatif di SMK 1 Muhammadiyah Palu.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out if using flashcards can improve the student’s vocabulary mastery in junior high school. This research used a quasi-experimental research design. The population of this research was the seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Lore Timur. The sample was selected using the purposive sampling technique. The sample of this research were 53 students, which were divided into 27 the students of class D as an experimental group and 26 students of class A as a control group. The data were collected through the test that consisted of pre-test and post-test. By applying the independent t-test, the researcher found there is no significant difference between the experimental and control groups (p = 0.147, p > 0.05). Thus, the hypothesis was rejected, using flashcards can't improve the student vocabulary mastery in seventh grade at junior high school.

Abstract

The aim of this service activity is to increase digital literacy among students at SDN Inpres Lik Layana Indah through training activities on the use of technology to support learning activities. Service activity is carried out in several stages, namely first, the planning consists of forming a service team, determining partner, and analyzing partner needs and problems; second, the preparation in the form of coordination and initial socialization regarding the schedule; third, the implementation which consists of socialization, training and mentoring activities; and the final stage is reflection and evaluation. The service activity carried out by the service team consist of several activities, namely assistance in working on Class-Minimum Competency Assessment using smartphones, socialization on cyber security and attitudes as members of digital citizenship, training and assistance in using web browser, and graphic design training using the Canva application. All series of activities were carried out well and obtained satisfactory results as seen from the students’ enthusiasm when participating in the activities and the results of the pre-test and post-test analysis which showed an increase in students’ understanding after the service activity.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out whether or not the use of Sequence Pictures Technique can improve the ninth grade students’ skill in writing procedure text. The researcher applied a quasi-experimental research design. The population of this research was the ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 14 Palu which consisted of 119 students. The sample of this research was 30 students of class IX Ahmad Yani as the experimental class. Meanwhile, 29 students of class IX Cut Nyak Dien categorized as the control class. The sample was selected by using cluster random sampling technique. The technique of data collection was test. The test included pre-test and post-test, with the mean score of 56.11 for experimental class, and 71.67 for control class on pre-test. While on post-test, the results were 73.33 for experimental class and 77.22 for control class. By applying 0.05 level of significance and 28 degree of freedom (df), as can be seen that the value of t-counted was (3.58) and t-table was (1.701). The t-counted value was higher than t-table value, which meant that the research hypothesis was accepted. This study suggests that the use of Sequence Pictures technique can improve students’ writing skill in procedure text.

Abstract

The objectives of this research was to find out the learning strategies in writing procedure text and to know about the students reasons for using those strategies by VIII grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Banawa Selatan. The subject of this research was VIII grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Banawa Selatan which the total number 104 students consist of four classes. 21 students were taken as the sample used simple random sampling. Researcher conducted this research using qualitative research types and data collecting used questionnaire and interview. The result of questionnaire shows that in writing procedure text most of the students use strategies in learning such as cognitive strategies, metacognitive strategies, memory related strategies, compensatory strategies, affective strategies, and social strategies. Based on the result of interview session, it can be concluded that the reasons of the students for using these strategies because they want to write procedure text well. The most dominant used learning strategies by the subjects is cognitive strategy. Majority of the subjects more frequently use this strategy among all of strategies in learning procedure text.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate whether or not the students’ speaking ability can improve through the Everyone is A Teacher Here Method in teaching speaking skill of tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 5 Palu. This research applies quasi experimental design, that used two classes, they are experimental class and control class. The research population was the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Palu which is consisted of 325 students. The samples were selected by purposive sampling technique and it was 17 students of X Mipa 6a and 16 students of X Mipa 6b. The instruments that was used to collect the data was tests. The tests include pre-test and post-test, with the pre-test mean score 35.29 for experimental class and 35.63 for control class. While post-test mean score is 45.29 for experimental class and 37.50 for control class. The result of the data is analyzed statistically by applying the t-test formula. The result of the data analysis show that the value of t-counted is 2.45. Applying the degree of freedom 31 (Nx + Ny – 2 = 17 + 16 – 2) and 0.05 level of significance the value of t-table is 1.567. The calculation show that the t-test value is higher than the t-table value. It means that the hypothesis of this research is accepted. It affirms that Everyone is A teacher Here Method can improve students’ speaking skill of the tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 5 Palu.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the difficulties and causes of difficulties for class VIII students in writing narrative texts. This study uses a qualitative research design. The subjects of this study were students of class VIII B, totaling 20 students. In this study, data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires and interviews. Based on the results of the analysis of questionnaires and interviews, it is known that students have difficulty in writing narrative texts. The difficulty lies in the tenses of the narrative text, the difficulty in placing punctuation and capital letters, and the difficulty in understanding the generic structure of the written narrative. The causes of difficulties in writing narrative texts are lack of vocabulary, lack of writing practice, and the last cause is the obstacles experienced by students when learning online. The solution that the researchers gave to the students was that students were expected to learn more about narrative text material and increase English vocabulary so that students could more easily understand and writing narrative texts.

Abstract

This research focuses on students who live in rural areas in learning English speaking. The objective of the research is to find out the problems in speaking skills and to find out the causes of speaking problems in speaking skills encountered by the eighth-grade students of MTs.Muhammadiyah Tolitoli. MTs Muhammadiyah School was located in Baolan district, Tolitoli regency, in Central Sulawesi. The method of this research is qualitative research method while the sample of this research was the eighth-grade students of MTs. Muhammadiyah Tolitoli was chosen by convenience sampling. Observation, interviews, and Questionnaires were the tools of data collection. Based on the data collected from questionnaires, interviews, and observations, it was found that skill factors are the most dominant problem than knowledge factors. It was found that 80% were problems with lack of confidence, 60% were problems with less motivation, and 60 % had problems with feeling shy in learning English speaking. It is followed by the knowledge factor which means a percentage of 72% the aspect of knowledge in learning speaking, 56% pronunciation, and 52% lack of vocabulary. The causes of speaking problems encountered by the eighth-grade students of MTs. Muhammadiyah Tolitoli is inhibition, environment, and mother tongue used.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out if there is any significant correlation between reading habit and vocabulary mastery of grade eight students at SMPN 2 Lembo Raya. The researchers used correlation research design. The sample of this research was the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Lembo Raya that consisted of 50 students. The instruments of data collection were questionnaire and vocabulary test. The technique of data analysis used Pearson Product Moment. Based on the data analysis, the result shows that the rxy was -0.077 and the t-obtained was 0.597. It means that there is no significant correlation between reading habit and vocabulary mastery because students’ reading habit has no impact on their vocabulary mastery. The reading habit that they have only in reading Indonesia text books while this research focus on English
