Abstract

Arabic holds a central place in the Islamic intellectual tradition as the language of the Qur’an. Therefore, Arabic instruction in Islamic higher education is expected not only to develop linguistic competence but also to integrate Qur’anic values into the learning process. However, in practice, much of the existing literature and instructional approaches continue to focus primarily on structural and linguistic aspects. Comprehensive models that systematically connect language skills with spiritual and ethical dimensions remain limited. This gap highlights the lack of a multidimensional framework that meaningfully integrates these elements. This study aims to examine the model and implementation of integrating Qur’anic verses into Arabic language learning at Universitas Sunan Drajat Lamongan. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with lecturers and students, and document analysis. The data were then analyzed through an interactive process involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal a novel five-dimensional integrative model consisting of linguistic, contextual, thematic, value-based, and pedagogical integration. In this model, the Qur’an functions not only as a linguistic resource but also as an epistemological and pedagogical foundation. The implementation of this model follows a structured set of stages: introduction, language exploration, communicative practice, value reflection, and evaluation. This approach contributes to the simultaneous development of linguistic competence, communicative ability, and the internalization of Qur'anic values.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze student-based Arabic language learning innovations at Sunan Drajat University and examine their implementation and impact on the learning process in higher education. The background of this study is based on the need for transformation of Arabic language learning from conventional models to a more active, collaborative, and student-centered approach to improve the quality of 21st-century learning. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through non-participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Informants consisted of lecturers, students, and study program managers selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis was carried out using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that 1) learning innovations are implemented through Project-Based Learning, Collaborative Learning, and Problem-Based Learning supported by the use of digital technology. 2) Factors supporting innovation include institutional policies that encourage the development of innovative learning, adaptive curriculum development, and the characteristics of digital native students. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors consist of heterogeneity of student abilities and limited facilities. 3) This innovation has a positive impact on improving students' cognitive abilities, Arabic language skills, learning motivation, and collaborative skills. Furthermore, students become more active, confident, and able to apply Arabic in real-life contexts. This study concludes that student-driven learning innovation is effective in improving the quality of Arabic language learning in higher education, but requires continuous strengthening of facilities and institutional support.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the cooperative learning model innovation in Arabic language learning and examine its contribution to the participation and Arabic language competence of students in the Arabic Language Education Study Program at Sunan Drajat University, Lamongan. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with lecturers and students, and learning documentation. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions using source and method triangulation techniques to ensure data credibility. The results show that the implementation of cooperative learning was carried out through the stages of introduction, group formation, material presentation, group discussions, presentations, clarification, and evaluation. The application of this model showed a positive contribution to active student participation, student academic interaction, and collaborative engagement in learning. In addition, cooperative learning also contributed to the development of students' Arabic language competence, especially in vocabulary mastery, sentence construction, and oral and written communication skills. The collaborative learning environment also helped increase student confidence and reduce anxiety in using Arabic. Thus, cooperative learning can be seen as a pedagogical approach that supports the development of students' cognitive, social, and affective aspects in Arabic language learning in higher education.
