Abstract

Luka merupakan trauma fisik mengakibatkan kulit terbuka. Luka merupakan jalur masuk bagi mikroorganisme dari luar penyebab infeksi. Dahulu madu dimanfaatkan untuk mengobati luka bakar dan luka sayat. Madu memiliki keunggulan yakni memiliki hidrogen peroksida, eugenol dan methylglyoxal yang merupakan antibiotik yang unggul. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan uji ekperimental. Hewan coba dibagi dalam 4 kelompok. Setiap kelompok diberikan perlakukan antara lain: dengan pemberian madu lokal, madu impor, dan salep povidone iodine (kontrol positif), dan kelompok kontrol negatif tanpa perlakuan. Dilanjutkan pemantauan dan pencatatan untuk proses penyembuhan tiap kelompok. Hal ini diukur dengan indikator antara lain: luas luka, kelembaban luka, warna, serta perubahan keropeng. Pada penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa dengan pemberian madu mempercepat proses penyembuhan luka dibandingkan dengan pemberian air dan povidone iodine (p<0,05). Selain itu ditemukan madu lokal memberikan efek penyembuhan luka yang lebih cepat dibandingkan madu impor. Pemberian madu memberikan efek yang lebih baik terhadap penyembuhan luka. Dibandingkan dengan pemberian salep Povidone iodine dan tanpa perlakuan.

Abstract

Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is a viral disease, this disease can cause death in various types of cats but is not zoonotic. Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is caused by Feline corona virus (FCoV) from the family Coronaviridae, genus Alphacoronavirus. The purpose of writing a case study is to find out how to diagnose and treat FIP ​​in cats. Methods for diagnosing FIP include anamnesis, clinical examination, ultrasonographic examination (USG) and laboratory examinations consisting of hematological tests and Rivalta tests. The results of the physical examination showed changes in appetite, diarrhea, weakness, 8% dehydration, Body Condition Score 2, abdominal enlargement. Laboratory results using ultrasound showed accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity and kidney enlargement 4.29 cm, while the results of hematological examinations decreased the value of the MCV 33 fL, MCH 12 pg and WBC 1.37 10^3 /uL while the MCHC was 53.7 g/dL has increased, the results of the Rivalta test showed a positive result of FIP found the presence of jellyfish-shaped deposits. Handling of FIP cases is treated with antibiotics, multivitamins, fluid therapy, and feed management.

Abstract

Ticks as blood sucking ectoparasites in cattle can cause a variety of diseases, malnutrition to livestock emaciation. One of the natural acaricides is Tobacco which contains Flavonoids, Tanins and Saponins. The purpose of this study was to determine the activity of Akarisida tobacco leaf extract against Boophilus microplus ticks. In this study 50 ticks were used which were then divided into 5 setting groups with each group twice repeated. The negative control group was given 1% Na CMC, the positive control group was given bestrin forte synthetic medicine, group 3 was given 10% Tobacco Leaf Extract (EDT), group 4 was given 15% EDT, and group 5 was given 20% EDT. After spending 2 hours for 6 hours and determine which group will beat the tick the fastest. Data analysis using Anova One Way statistics. Abstract

Salah satu penyakit infeksi parasit yang sering dijumpai mengganggu ternak kambing adalah scabies disebabkan oleh Sarcoptes scabiei. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji efek ekstrak daun sirih (Piper betle L.) pada kambing kacang (Capra hircus) yang terinfeksi scabies. Hewan uji dikelompokkan menjadi 5 perlakuan, yaitu kontrol positif, kontrol negatif, ekstrak daun sirih  10, 20 dan 30%. Parameter yang diamati adalah adanya alopecia, penebalan dan keropeng pada permukaan luka. Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan ekstrak daun sirih 10, 20 dan 30% memberikan aktivitas yang baik terhadap penyembuhan scabies pada kambing kacang, dimana efek terbaik diberikan oleh ekstrak daun sirih 30%. Kata Kunci:  ekstrak daun sirih, kambing Kacang, scabies Effects of betel leaf extract (Piper betle L.) on the treatment of scabies for sheep goats (Capra hircus) Abstract One of the parasitic infectious diseases that are often found to interfere with goat livestock is scabies caused by Sarcoptes scabiei. This study aimed to examine the effect of betel leaf extract (Piper betle L.) on scabies-infected goat (Capra hircus) goats. Test animals were grouped into 5 treatments, namely positive control, negative control, betel leaf extract 10, 20 and 30%. The parameters observed were the presence of alopecia, thickening and scab on the wound surface. Observation results showed that betel leaf extracts of 10, 20 and 30% gave a good activity to cure scabies in goat nuts, where the best effect was given by 30% betel leaf extract. Keywords: extract betel leaf, Indonesian native Kacang goat, scabies

Abstract

Salmonellosis is a significant global public health concern caused by the bacterium Salmonella spp. As a zoonotic disease, it can be transmitted between animals and humans, leading to various clinical symptoms in humans, including gastroenteritis, diarrhea, vomiting, enteric fever, and septicemia. This study examines the presence of Salmonella spp. in house geckos (Hemidactylus frenatus and Cosymbotus platyurus), which may act as zoonotic reservoirs. A total of 50 house geckos were collected from residential areas across five districts in Makassar City—Biringkanaya, Tamalanrea, Tallo, Manggala, and Rappocini—from March to September 2024. Skin, oral, and fecal samples from the geckos were cultured on nutrient agar, brain heart infusion broth, and selective Salmonella-Shigella agar, with bacterial identification confirmed using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. Findings revealed the presence of Salmonella enterica ssp. enterica in geckos from the Manggala district, highlighting a potential pathway for environmental contamination and zoonotic disease transmission. This study underscores the need for public awareness regarding the health risks associated with household reptiles and emphasizes preventive sanitation measures to reduce potential pathogen exposure. These findings serve as a foundation for future research on zoonotic reservoirs in urban environments.

Abstract

The practice of keeping pet animals have gained popularity in society, with the owning number of pets that reach 67%, particularly 37% for cats and 16% for dogs. Since animals have been considered family members nowadays, keeping them means that the owner is willing to contribute to maintaining their health and hygiene, which is crucial to prevent the spread of diseases that can affect both the pet and their owner. One common issue in animal health is the infection caused by the ear mite called Otodectes cynotis, which can lead to external ear canal inflammation. Current treatment for Otodectes cynotis infection is utilizing the topical application of synthetic drugs that contain antiparasitic synthetical drugs inside such as ivermectin and doramectin, due to the potential side effects and the threat caused by the tight therapy dose index in antiparasitic drugs, the alternative treatments including modified cotton buds and the use of herbal remedies have been developed to upgrade, to solve and to invent the novelty of science. This research aims to prove the hypothesis of the effectiveness of soursop leaf extract in eradicating Otodectes cynotis in animals, prescribing the required concentration to generate effective results yet to investigate the potential of modified cotton buds as a product of equipment. The outcomes of this study are expected to facilitate the development of knowledge in parasitic drugs and herbal medicine substitutes yet to innovate the more practical way to perform drug therapy for external otitis in pet animals caused by Otodectes cynotis

Abstract

ABSTRAK. Daging sapi, ayam dan olahannya sangat menentukan  produksi pangan halal yang menggunakan bahan baku asal ternak tersebut. Rumah Potong Hewan  ruminansia atau disebut RPH-R adalah usaha untuk memproduksi daging sapi atau kerbau. Rumah Potong Hewan Unggas atau RPH-U untuk memproduksi daging ayam. Selain itu usaha penggilingan daging juga merupakan usaha yang memproduksi olahan daging(adonan untuk produk bakso). Usaha tersebut memiliki titik kritis tinggi dalam hal menghasilkan daging  dan produk daging yang halal. Keberhasilan pemenuhan kriteria halal di RPH-R dan RPH-U  serta penggilingan daging sangat ditentukan oleh pekerja yang terlibat di usaha tersebut. Pemenuhan kriteria halal perlu mendapat perhatian dalam rangka menghasilkan daging dan produk daging. Kriteria halal dalam sistem jaminan halal yaitu keterlibatan  sumber daya manusia, kesesuaian  bahan, proses produksi, prosedur dan produk.  Sumber daya manusia merupakan kriteria halal yang memegang peranan penting karena terkait komitmen dan tanggungjawab untuk mengimplementasi sistem jaminan halal pada suatu usaha. Pekerja merupakan salah satu sumber daya yang ada dalam usaha peternakan rumah potong ruminansia, unggas dan tempat penggilingan daging. Pengetahuan tentang kriteria halal pada pekerja masih rendah. Pelatihan dilakukan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan pekerja. Belum banyak penelitian  yang mengevaluasi  pengetahuan pekerja  setelah mengikuti pelatihan dalam menerapkan sistem jaminan halal di unit usaha dan industri pengolahan peternakan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi pengetahuan pekerja setelah mengikuti pelatihan kriteria halal di unit usaha peternakan. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan  wawancara  untuk mengambil data setelah pelatihan dilakukan.  Sampel yang digunakan adalah 15 peserta pelatihan sebagai responden. Penelitian ini menggunakan analisis data Likert untuk mengolah data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengetahuan pekerja setelah mengikuti pelatihan di usaha rumah potong ruminansia, unggas dan penggilingan daging mengalami peningkatkan 15% atau kategori tinggi. Pelatihan dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan pekerja dalam memenuhi kriteria halal pada usaha  rumah potong ruminansia, unggas dan penggilingan daging di Kota Parepare.Kata kunci: Kriteria halal, pelatihan, evaluasi pengetahuan, pekerja industri peternakanEvaluation of Knowledge on Halal Assurance System by Workers in Livestock Business Units in Parepare City, South SulawesiABSTRACT. Beef, chicken and their preparations determine the production of halal food that uses raw materials from these animals. A ruminant slaughterhouse or RPH-R is a business for producing beef or buffalo meat. Poultry slaughterhouse or U-slaughterhouse is for producing chicken meat. In addition, the meat milling business is also a business that produces processed meat (dough for meatball products). The business has a high critical point in terms of producing halal meat and meat products. The success of fulfilling halal criteria in RPH-R and U-RPH as well as meat milling is largely determined by the workers involved in the business. Fulfillment of halal criteria needs attention to produce meat and meat products. Halal criteria in the halal assurance system are the involvement of human resources, suitability of materials, production processes, procedures, and products. Human resources are halal criteria that play an important role because they are related to commitment and responsibility for implementing a halal assurance system in a business. Workers are one of the resources available in ruminant slaughterhouses, poultry farms, and meatpacking operations. Knowledge of halal criteria among workers is still low. Training is conducted to improve workers' knowledge. There are not many studies that evaluate workers' knowledge after training in implementing a halal assurance system in livestock processing business units and industries.  This study aims to evaluate the knowledge of workers after attending halal criteria training in livestock business units. This study was conducted with interviews to collect data after the training was conducted. The sample used was 15 trainees as respondents. This research uses Likert data analysis to process data. The results showed that the knowledge of workers after attending training in ruminant slaughterhouses, poultry, and meat milling businesses increased by 15% or high category. Training can improve workers' knowledge in meeting halal criteria in ruminant slaughterhouses, poultry, and meat milling businesses in Parepare City.

Abstract

Ascaridia galli is a gastrointestinal parasite in poultry which can cause weight loss, slow growth and affect egg production. Chickens that are infected can cause damage to the integrity of the intestinal villi to severe inflammation of the intestinal mucosa. Bitter melon leaf (Momordica charantia) is known to have an anthelmintic effect which can be used as an alternative in the treatment of worms disease. The purpose of the research is to determine activity of bitter melon leaf infusion toward Ascaridia galli conducted in vitro. In the research, it uses 72 Ascaridia galli that divided into 4 groups consisting of positive control group (Levamid), negative control group (Aquadest), and 2 treatment group with 10%, and 20% bitter melon leaf infusion concentration, respectively. Each group replicated three times. The worms were immersed in the test solution and observations were performed every 15 minutes and counted the number of worms that died. The results showed that pare leaf infusion with concentrations of 10% and 20% had an anthelmintic effect but was no better than Levamid as a positive control.

Abstract

This study aims to detect the occurrence or absence of Theileria sp. parasitic infection in cattle grazed at the Tamangapa Makassar landfill. This research was conducted in January 2022- February 2023. Many samples used in this study were 43 samples from the total cattle population in the study site of 781 cows. The sample used in this study was blood made by Giemsa staining. The data analysis used in this study is descriptive analysis. The results showed that from 43 samples there were 31 negative samples and 12 samples were positive for Theileria sp. in cattle grazed at the Tamangapa Makassar landfill. This can be seen from observations under a microscope, which is seen the formation of rods or sticks in erythrocyte cells. The positive samples were divided into several categories, based on the sex of the presentation of Theileria sp. cases in female cattle (32.43%) higher than in males (0%). Based on age, the ≥2 (39%) year old category is higher than the <2 years old category (20%). The conclusion of this study was that in cattle at the Tamangapa Makassar landfill, there was a parasitic infection with Theileria sp. and the incidence presentation was 27.91%. The suggestion for this study is that further research should be carried out in the future using diagnostic tests in determining species using PCR. In addition, researchers can then pay better attention to conditions that can be risk factors for this disease.

Abstract

Myasis is a disease that commonly occurs in ruminants with the incidence of myasis increasing from year to year in Indonesia, especially in rural areas, with an incidence rate of 70% and a recurrence rate of up to 40% in cattle, buffalo, horses and goats. This disease is characterized by the presence of wounds and maggots. The presence of secondary infections will make the disease worse. Therefore, it is necessary to handle miasis cases so that they do not cause losses to farmers. A 7 year old of bali cattle in the North Sinjai district experienced miasis on the head. Treatment for myasis includes washing the wound, removing maggots and administering medication. Treatment uses the antibiotic oxytetracycline, anti-inflammatories, and vitamins as well as turmeric powder as a topical treatment. With the handling and treatment given, the cow showed recovery within 2 weeks. There is a need to improve election management so that this miasis incident does not happen again. As well as the need for socialization from related departments regarding livestock diseases and livestock rearing management.
