Abstract

Wire cranes play a crucial role in the loading and unloading process on ships, especially in ports lacking land-based crane facilities. However, several problems were encountered on the MV Hanglima, including wire rope damage, overloading, and poor operational risk mitigation. This study aims to analyze wire crane maintenance, optimize its performance, and identify mitigation strategies for potential damage and accidents. The study employed a case study approach with thematic analysis, through observation, interviews, and documentation on board the MV Hanglima. The results indicate that the frequency of wire crane maintenance depends on the intensity of use and the working environment. Lifting loads exceeding safe limits can accelerate wire rope damage and reduce crane operational efficiency. Furthermore, lack of operator training, negligence in the use of personal protective equipment, and weak communication systems contribute to the increased risk of workplace accidents. Effective mitigation strategies include regular inspections, the use of load sensors, routine lubrication, and the implementation of emergency response standard operating procedures (SOPs). In conclusion, optimizing maintenance programs and integrated risk mitigation can improve wire crane performance and support the smooth and safe loading and unloading process on board.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berjudul “Analisis kerusakan tutup palka terhadap kontruksi ruang muat kapal pada MV Oriental Jade”. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis faktor penyebab kerusakan tutup palka dan dampaknya terhadap konstruksi ruang muat kapal pada MV Oriental Jade. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan studi kasus, melalui observasi langsung, wawancara dengan awak kapal, serta dokumentasi kondisi fisik di lapangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kerusakan tutup palka disebabkan oleh beberapa faktor utama, yaitu: korosi berat pada permukaan pelat baja, penggunaan rubber seal yang telah melebihi usia pakai, beban muatan yang melebihi batas kekuatan struktur, serta kurangnya sistem perawatan yang terstruktur dan hanya bergantung pada Planned Maintenance System (PMS) tanpa inspeksi aktual secara visual. Dampak dari kerusakan tersebut meliputi korosi pada lantai (tank top), dinding palka, serta dudukan container, yang berakibat pada terganggunya kelancaran operasional kapal. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan penerapan inspeksi visual berkala, penggantian rubber seal, pelapisan ulang cat anti-korosi, serta pengawasan terhadap distribusi beban muatan sebagai upaya dalam menjaga fungsi tutup palka dan keselamatan konstruksi ruang muat kapal. Abstract

This study analyzes the implementation and optimization of the “Abandon the Ship Drill” aboard KM. Bintan Utama to enhance maritime safety. The research examines the effectiveness of the drill, crew readiness, procedural compliance, communication, and encountered obstacles. The study employed observation, interviews, and documentation methods. The results indicate a good level of compliance with standard operating procedures (85%) and full utilization of lifeboats (100%). However, communication barriers (30%) and inconsistencies in the use of life jackets (90%) were identified. Mental preparedness of the crew and the frequency of drills require improvement. Recommendations include enhanced training programs, improved communication exercises, and continuous evaluation to optimize maritime safety.

Abstract

SMK KAL 2 Surabaya is a maritime-based vocational high school that prepares skilled human resources in the shipping sector. Graduates of SMK KAL 2 are directed to work on commercial ships, especially those that operate lift aircraft as part of loading and unloading activities, but the level of students' understanding of K3 procedures, especially in the context of shipping and the operation of lift aircraft, is still low. The purpose of this community service is to hold socialization of K3 procedures for the operation of lift aircraft on ships that are expected by graduates of SMK KAL 2 so that students understand and have awareness of the importance of K3 procedures in the operation of lift aircraft on ships, can identify work risks independently, and comply with safety procedures when working on ships, Community service activities in the form of socialization of Occupational Safety and Health (K3) procedures in the operation of lift aircraft at SMK KAL 2 Surabaya have been successfully carried out with a very good level of achievement. The main target of the activity, which is to increase the understanding and awareness of students and shipping teachers on the importance of implementing K3 procedures, was achieved significantly, as evidenced by the results of the pre-test and post-test, which showed an increase in the average score of the participants.
